Workable
Workable Agent is an AI recruiter built into Workable’s hiring software. It finds people who have not applied, scores everyone against the role and chats with candidates. You pay per action, in prepaid units Workable calls “AI credits”. Your company stays responsible for every hiring decision.
Workable Agent finds, scores and chats with candidates, and you pay by the action
Workable Agent handles the first stage of hiring. It finds people, screens them against the role and hands your team a shortlist. Workable launched it on 13 March 2026.
You want to find people who have not applied and sort the people who did. You want both inside the product that holds your applicants. You hire in English. You accept paying per action.
You hire in other languages. You cannot let a vendor use your data to improve its own AI. You cannot budget for a cost that rises with every action.
You add the Agent to a Workable plan. The Standard plan costs $299 a month, billed yearly, and plan prices depend on your number of employees. The Agent runs on credit bundles from $600 for 5,000 credits.
What the Agent does with a candidate, step by step
You set the Agent up in a guided chat about the role. The Agent turns your answers into matching criteria in up to 14 categories and marks some as must-have. Reviewing these criteria is the most important setup step.
The Agent then searches a database of more than 400 million profiles. The data refreshes every three months and is not copied from LinkedIn. The Agent scores the top matches and adds those who pass to the Sourced stage. It emails each one an invitation to chat. You cannot edit the email text, but you choose the tone and the number of follow-ups. It comes from a no-reply address and carries the name of the team member you pick. Workable’s own data shows personalised outreach gets double the response rate of bulk templates.
People who apply are read against your criteria the moment they arrive. Each gets a score out of 100 with a reason for every criterion. Must-have criteria count double. The score leaves out protected characteristics such as age, gender and nationality. The chat tells candidates they are talking to an AI assistant.
Auto-reject is off by default. With it on, the Agent turns down people who miss a disqualifying criterion, and you can reverse any rejection. Auto-advance moves people who meet your score and must-haves to a stage you choose.
Results Workable publishes for its customers
HuggingFace
HuggingFace tripled its headcount in 18 months and used no external recruiters.
Elite Construction
Elite Construction hired 78% more people, and its cost per hire fell from $3,400 to $2,000.
More than 35,000 companies use Workable’s software. Neither result is tied to the Agent.
Who Workable Agent suits
You want the AI inside the system that holds your applicants
Workable’s applicant tracking comes with every recruiting plan. Applicants, scores and messages sit in one place, so nothing needs connecting.
You get more applicants than your team can read
Every applicant is scored against your criteria as they arrive, with a reason for each score.
You want to reach people who have not applied
The Agent works toward roughly 10 interested candidates per job. Your team talks to people who have already shown interest.
Where Workable Agent stops
The Agent works only on jobs you set up or upgrade for it
You can upgrade an existing job from the job editor. Candidates who arrived more than 7 days before you switched the Agent on are not screened automatically.
Some candidates sit outside the Agent’s reach
If you change the criteria later, the Agent does not move a reviewed candidate who now qualifies. It does not contact candidates you upload by hand. It also skips candidates who arrive through Recruiter System Connect, LinkedIn’s link to the applicant tracking system.
Your company carries the legal duties
Workable’s AI tools only support human decisions, and your company is responsible for hiring decisions. Trained staff must review the output before anyone relies on it for a decision that could seriously affect a candidate. The AI features come as is, with no promise of accuracy or freedom from bias.
Workable uses customers’ data to improve its own AI
Ask what that covers and whether your candidates’ data can be left out.
Several outside companies handle candidate data
OpenAI, in the United States, runs the AI models. ContactOut, also in the United States, handles data enrichment, such as adding a sourced person’s email. Amazon Web Services hosts the data in its US East zone.
The uptime promise leaves out features still in testing
Workable promises 99.8% uptime each month. That promise leaves out pilot, alpha, beta and similar trial and test versions of features. If Workable misses it, you get money off a later bill, not a refund.
The first email to a sourced candidate carries your privacy notice in its footer. You are responsible for sharing that notice. Workable has GDPR features you can switch on. GDPR is the European data protection law. With them on, Workable deletes sourced candidates after 30 days. This covers jobs in the EU, the UK, Norway, Iceland, Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Candidates you email through Workable are kept. Other customers can choose the same deletion.
What each candidate costs, what the plans cost and how to leave
Scoring a candidate costs 1 credit. Finding a person who has not applied costs 2, and a chat costs 10. A found candidate who chats costs 13. Bundles cost $600 for 5,000 credits, $1,000 for 10,000 and $4,750 for 50,000. At $600 a bundle, one credit costs 12 cents, so that candidate costs about $1.56. Every paid account starts with 3,000 free credits, enough for about 230 of them. Credits expire after one year and are not refundable.
A chat costs 10 credits once the candidate gives one answer, even if it never finishes. A candidate turned down on a criterion still costs 1 credit. There is no cap on credits per job or per account. Your balance can go below zero, and Workable settles it at your next top-up. The free trial does not include the Agent.
Standard costs $299 a month, Premier $599 and Enterprise $719, all billed yearly. Plans renew for a year unless someone gives written notice. Workable can raise the renewal price by up to 5% with 45 days’ notice. The terms also let fees change at renewal for company size, add-ons or professional services. Contractors count in your company size. Leaving early gives no refund, and the fees for the rest of the term become due. A full data export means contacting Workable.
You could also find and screen people with agents built on your own systems. We have mapped what that looks like. The HR Agent Map
Eight questions to put to Workable
- What will the Agent cost us over a full year, at our headcount and our hiring plans? Good answer: One written yearly figure that covers the plan, the credits and any extras.
- Can a monthly cap on credits per job or per account go into our contract? Good answer: Yes, written into the order form, with a warning before we reach the cap.
- Can we add new criteria after a job goes live? Good answer: Yes, in writing, and the Agent re-reviews people it already scored.
- Can you exclude our candidates’ data from the work you do to improve your in-house AI? Good answer: Yes, written into our order form, for past and future candidate data.
- Can we limit who switches on auto-reject, and is each change logged? Good answer: A named group of people, and a log that shows who changed it and when.
- Can you show results from customers who use the Agent itself, with the numbers? Good answer: Named customers who use the Agent, with figures and a contact we can call.
- In which countries can we use the Agent today? Good answer: A named list, with dates for any still planned.
- If we leave, how do we get every candidate, evaluation and message out, and how fast? Good answer: A stated file format and a time window, written into the contract.
Alternatives to Workable
The alternatives are Greenhouse and Lever, or buying nothing.
Greenhouse is also a hiring system with AI add-ons. Real Talent sorts the people who applied and flags fraud. Voice AI holds a voice interview in 11 languages, where Workable Agent works in English only. Greenhouse sells Voice AI on its own, and it works with Workable among other hiring systems. Greenhouse does not use customers’ personal data to train AI models. Its AI terms still let it train models on anonymised copies of your inputs and outputs. You request pricing for Real Talent, and Voice AI is priced by headcount.
Lever builds AI into its hiring software. Talent Fit ranks candidates against the job and explains each match. AI Screening by VONQ pre-screens, scores and ranks candidates through chat and voice conversations. It is designed to screen candidates in, not out, where Workable can reject automatically. Lever’s pricing is on request and tailored to your size and hiring needs.
Buying nothing means no credits to track and no new terms on candidate data. Searching, reading and messaging stay manual. If you already use Workable, candidate ranking is no longer available on jobs you do not upgrade. So doing nothing has a cost. Our guide to AI sourcing and screening covers what the rest of the market offers.
