Eightfold
Eightfold is an AI tool that matches job applicants and staff to jobs. Each profile draws on CVs, HR records, ratings and skills Eightfold fills in itself. Its Digital Twin also reads day-to-day work in email, Teams and Slack. Eightfold is defending open court cases, including one over its scores. Its contract makes the buyer responsible for decisions made with them. Eightfold does not publish a price.
Eightfold is an AI tool that matches people to jobs and to new roles inside a company. It builds skills profiles from CVs, HR records, ratings and a Digital Twin that reads people’s everyday work.
You are a large employer that wants hiring and internal moves matched in one system. Or you need the US government security approvals it holds.
You need people’s skill levels to count in the match score. That score decides who is put forward for a role. Or you need to see a price before you talk to a salesperson. Or you cannot take sole responsibility for decisions made with its scores while court cases are open.
Eightfold does not publish a price. Every sale is a private deal, agreed one buyer at a time.
A match score is only as good as the skills behind it
Matching sits at the centre of Eightfold. It turns each CV and each job advert into a profile. It then scores the match from zero to five stars, in half-star steps. Eightfold also predicts the job title a person is likely to hold next. It works this out from their past titles, their skills and how long they stayed in each role. That prediction is a guess built from patterns in other people’s careers, not a promise. The model behind it learned from tens of millions of past matches, where the real outcome was already known. Recruiters use the matching tool to hire people. Employees use it too, through an internal marketplace of jobs, projects, gigs and mentors. Every score depends on the skills on a person’s profile.
A profile starts with a person’s CV or job application, plus data from your HR system. That data covers past employers, career path, time in each role, and past performance feedback. Eightfold then fills in extra skills a person is likely to have, based on people with similar careers. It marks these skills as likely or inferred. Both words mean the same thing. Eightfold is guessing, not confirming something the person has checked. Employees can add their own skills too, including skills from courses they finish. The employee, their manager or their peers can each rate a skill’s level. So one profile can carry skills from four sources. Those are your HR system, Eightfold’s own guesswork, the employee, and whoever rated them.
On top of those records sits Eightfold’s Digital Twin, an AI model built for each employee. It connects to email, Teams, Slack, sales systems, project tools, and the tools engineers use to store code. From all of that, it captures skills from a person’s actual work, including skills nobody wrote down. That scope reaches well beyond a standard HR record. Have your security review weigh it early.
Eightfold’s co-founders also started a separate company, Viven, in October 2025. Viven sells its own digital twins to employers. It will connect with Eightfold’s talent management tools.
Our guide to skills intelligence software groups Eightfold with the talent platforms that match people to jobs and internal moves.
Most of Eightfold’s published figures measure hiring, not skills
Amdocs uses Eightfold for hiring and for internal moves. Its vice president of global HR calls the company “becoming a skills-driven organization”. This figure measures how often people change roles, so it is the most useful one here for skills.
This figure counts how many employees have a profile. It shows how widely Coca-Cola Europacific Partners has rolled Eightfold out, not how good the skills in those profiles are.
Some customers cut the time it takes to fill a role by 33%. They did this using AI Interviewer, Eightfold’s tool that lets candidates interview as soon as they apply. This is a hiring figure, not a skills figure.
These career histories and skills are what Eightfold learns from, to fill in a skill a person has not listed. The figure only measures how much data Eightfold holds. Use the demo to check how well that data matches the roles in your own organisation.
About 78% of hires with a high match score were still in the job after a year. About 73% of hires with a lower score were. Eightfold measured this from combined, anonymised data on about 377,000 employees. Retail staff were under-represented in that data.
An outside firm, BABL AI, audited Eightfold’s matching model. The audit followed New York City’s bias-audit rule for hiring and promotion tools, Local Law 144. It passed on gender, on race and ethnicity, on governance and on risk assessment. That covered more than 29 million candidate assessments. The score is used mainly for outside job applicants, and only occasionally for decisions such as promotions.
It fits large employers with heavy hiring and strict security needs
It suits employers combining hiring and internal moves
Eightfold sells hiring and internal moves as one system, not two tools you connect yourself. Amdocs buys it for both.
It holds US government and international security approvals
Eightfold holds FedRAMP Moderate, the US government’s security approval for cloud services. It also holds ISO 42001, the standard for managing AI. On top of that, it holds ISO 27001, 27017 and 27701, the standards for information, cloud and privacy security. It also holds a SOC 2 Type II report, an independent auditor’s report on its security controls. In July 2025 it won provisional IL4 authorisation, short for Impact Level 4, from the US Defense Information Systems Agency. The US Air Force already buys it on a fixed-price contract. The Department of Defense’s GigEagle marketplace also runs on it, with over 3,000 profiles created by service members. Eightfold says it does not use data that identifies you to train its models. But its contract lets it train models on anonymised data made from your data. Weigh that against your data protection rules.
It suits employers whose biggest problem is hiring volume
If filling open roles matters more than understanding skills, this is where Eightfold shows the most results. Eaton, which hires nearly 15,000 people a year, uses Eightfold to recruit.
It suits employers who want courses tied to skill gaps
HR sets a skill level for each skill on each role, and people are rated against it. The gap between the level and the rating drives suggestions for courses, projects and development plans. When manager ratings are switched on, course suggestions use the manager’s rating instead of the employee’s own. This applies to any skill both have rated. Your aim may be better-targeted learning, rather than deciding who is ready to move up. If so, this is where Eightfold’s skill levels do the most work.
Skill levels stay out of match scores, and lawsuits are open
An expert and a beginner can get the same match score
In recruiting, a person’s skill level does not change their match score. Switching levels on only adds a slider to the screen where a role is set up. Ratings are not used to match employees to jobs inside the company. Career-path suggestions do not use levels either. If a promotion shortlist leans on match scores, the levels you set play no part.
HR must set and keep every skill level current
The level an employee is measured against is the one HR enters for that role. Someone on your team must set and maintain every level, role by role. They can compare up to 10 roles at a time. Eightfold’s community forum puts suggested levels on its roadmap for the second half of 2026.
A candidate’s assessed skills did not follow them into the job
As of July 2025, a candidate’s assessed skills did not carry over once they were hired. Their new employee profile started separately.
Profiles are only as current as your own records
Employee profiles draw on your own HR records, so patchy records make patchy profiles. Eightfold has had problems keeping profiles up to date. For candidate profiles it fixed some of this through a direct partnership with LinkedIn.
It can gather information from outside your own systems
If a customer asks it to, Eightfold looks up people who might apply for a job. It checks LinkedIn, Stack Overflow and GitHub. It can also add to employee profiles from public sites such as LinkedIn and GitHub. Decide what you want for candidates, and for employees, and put both in the contract.
Its product documentation sits behind a customer login
Eightfold’s product documentation and training are open only to customers. So you learn how the product behaves from the demo and from what Eightfold puts in writing. Get written answers to your detailed questions before you sign.
Eightfold prices every deal privately, with no published number
Its listing on Microsoft’s Azure Marketplace shows one plan, marked “for illustrative purposes only”. The first real number you see comes from a sales call.
One public contract shows the scale. The US Department of the Air Force paid $329,925.63 for one year. That was a fixed price, running from 24 September 2025 to 23 September 2026. The contract pays for a system that matches its people to jobs, assignments and training based on their skills. One buyer’s price for one year says nothing about what your company would be quoted.
If you already buy from Oracle or Microsoft, you have two other ways to pay. Oracle customers can pay for Eightfold’s AI Interviewer with Oracle Universal Credits. That is the prepaid balance Oracle sells for its cloud services. Eightfold has also been on the Azure Marketplace since June 2025. Both routes change how you pay, not how soon you see a price.
Eightfold publishes no minimum company size, seat count or contract value. Fortune 500 names sit on its customer list. More than 100 organisations used it by June 2025. It also ran a pilot in two Puerto Rican government agencies with under 300 employees. That pilot was the first stage of a planned system for 55 agencies. Get Eightfold to confirm on the first call that it sells to companies of your size.
If you are signing for more than a year, the company itself matters too. Eightfold is independent, with no parent company. No acquisition or layoffs have been reported. Its last announced funding round was a $220 million Series E in June 2021. That round valued the company at $2.1 billion. SoftBank Vision Fund 2 led it. Get its current funding position in writing.
What leaving costs depends on what Eightfold sits beside. It works alongside Workday rather than replacing it. It is not a learning system or an HR system. It has had its own applicant tracking system since May 2024. It also works with other tracking systems. Core employee records stay in the HR system. What you would lose is what Eightfold builds on top of them. That includes the filled-in skills, the ratings, the role levels and the match scores.
Eightfold’s contract gives you 30 days after the contract ends to ask for your data electronically. After that, Eightfold may delete it. Eightfold owns what it calls the “Anonymized Learnings” it creates from your data. It may use them to train its models. It also owns what it calls “Services Generated Data”.
You could also build this on your own systems. We have mapped what that looks like. See it as an agent
What should you ask before you sign?
- Your Digital Twin reads email, work apps and tasks. Do we buy it from you, or from Viven? How do the skills it captures reach a person’s profile? Good answer: One company’s name, in writing, in the contract.
- Open one employee’s profile in front of us. Show us where each skill came from. It may be their CV, our HR system, or a skill inferred from similar careers. Also show us anything the employee added, a rating, or the Digital Twin. Can they see which is which, and delete one you worked out? Good answer: A clear label on each skill, and a way to remove one Eightfold added.
- An expert and a beginner in a skill could get the same star rating. How should our recruiters read that rating? Good answer: A clear rule for recruiters on what the star rating does and does not mean.
- How often does a skill you fill in turn out to be right? How do you measure that? Good answer: A tested percentage, and the customer it was tested on.
- Do skills checked during hiring carry over into a new starter’s profile today? Good answer: Yes, and a plain description of how the handoff works.
- Can you switch off gathering information from LinkedIn, GitHub and similar sites? We need this for candidates and employees separately, written into the contract. Good answer: A written setting we control, split between candidates and employees.
- Your contract gives us 30 days after termination to ask for our data back. Which of the filled-in skills, the ratings and the match scores do we get, and in what format? Good answer: A written list of what counts as our data, in a file we can reuse.
- Your contract makes us solely responsible for decisions made with your software. If the court in Kistler rules your scores are consumer reports, what changes, and who pays? Good answer: A written change to our contract, not just an assurance.
Gloat for a marketplace, TechWolf or Microsoft for skills from work
What replaces Eightfold depends on what you need. For an internal marketplace of jobs and projects, look at Gloat. For skills read straight from people’s day-to-day work rather than typed in, look at TechWolf or Microsoft People Skills. If you already run Workday, SAP or Oracle, that supplier sells its own skills tool too. Options include Workday Skills Cloud, SAP Talent Intelligence Hub and Oracle Dynamic Skills. Holding off on any purchase is a real option too.
If an internal marketplace is what you want, compare Gloat with Eightfold directly. Gloat brings career growth, projects, learning, mentoring and internal hiring together in one place. Eightfold offers employees a similar hub of jobs, projects, gigs and mentors. Both sell to large employers. Pick the one that fits your HR system and commits most in the contract.
TechWolf is a different kind of purchase. It reads work such as tickets, code and messages. It then feeds what it learns into Workday, SAP SuccessFactors or Oracle HCM. It leaves the decisions to the talent tools you already run. Eightfold, by contrast, brings its own matching, hiring and mobility tools. So the choice is between new tools that decide for you and better skills data in your current systems. Our TechWolf review sets out what it does.
Microsoft People Skills is worth a look if your people work day to day inside Microsoft 365. It reads that work for $0 extra, so far, on top of a Copilot or Viva licence. It reads what happens in Microsoft 365 only. Microsoft itself says it is not designed for promotion or pay decisions. Even so, it shows you what your own systems already know, before you spend time in a sales process. Our Microsoft People Skills review sets out what it costs in practice.
Read those suppliers’ licence terms closely. SAP’s own skills tool needs a separately purchased AI units licence, a paid add-on rather than something included as standard.
Buying nothing yet is a real option too. If your CVs, HR records and role levels are thin, Eightfold has little to work with. Getting them in order is work you would need to do first. Our guide to skills intelligence software walks through that first step.
