Energage
Energage sells one survey that also qualifies a company for Top Workplaces awards. Since the 2026 merger it sells Engagedly surveys too, with different rules on who sees answers. Energage keeps the raw answers. Fees follow the Users in a Service Order. An automatic renewal can rise by up to 10%. Ending early without cause owes the balance.
One survey that doubles as an award entry, with the raw answers kept by Energage
Energage runs one survey that also qualifies a company for Top Workplaces awards. Since 2026 it also sells the Engagedly surveys.
You want a survey with outside benchmarks and a public award. You accept that Energage keeps the raw answers. You accept that Energage may use your name and logo for awards programmes.
You need the raw answers in your own hands. You need to end the contract mid-term without cause and without paying the balance. You plan to use Engagedly Team Pulse and need answers hidden from managers.
Energage fees follow the number of Users in a Service Order. Engagedly charges $2 per user per month, billed annually, for its Engage and Listen Suite. Its prices vary with employee count and bundling. The minimum is $7,500 a year.
Two survey lines now sit under the Energage name
Energage now sells two survey lines. Each has its own legal documents and its own rules on who sees answers. So decide which line you are buying. The Energage line has the Workplace Survey, Pulse and Insights. The Engagedly line has an engagement survey, Team Pulse and Butterfly EI.
Energage Workplace Survey is one survey that gives feedback on culture. Completing it also qualifies the company for Top Workplaces recognition in 60 U.S. regions and for industry and culture awards. Employees receive an email to take part. You can add your own statements. Employees can write open-ended comments.
Pulse sits on top of the Workplace Survey. It adds custom statements and collects extra feedback at set points through the year. It comes with templates for specific topics. You can write your own questions or use an expert question bank. It offers a free review of the questions.
Insights is where the results are read. It works at organisation and department level. It finds which of 15 culture drivers matter most. A driver is a topic that moves the engagement score. Insights also reports eNPS. That asks how likely employees are to recommend the company as a place to work. It uses AI to sum up comments and pick out themes. Smart Manager Sharing lets you choose what to share with managers, and when. You may also ask Energage to share Customer Data with outside services. Examples are BambooHR, Namely, Slack and Workday.
Engagedly Employee Survey is the engagement survey in the second line. You can mark questions as mandatory or anonymous. A heat map sets engagement patterns across departments against a baseline. Admins can turn the results into an action plan with goals and notes. If admins mark driver questions, only those count toward the engagement index.
For ongoing listening, Engagedly sells Team Pulse. It sends a recurring set of questions at a set frequency. Employees can answer from email, Slack or Microsoft Teams. Managers review answers with summaries of themes and potential concerns.
For milestones and exits, Engagedly sells Butterfly EI. It sends surveys by email, text message, mobile devices and kiosk links on a shared device. Nurture surveys start at milestones such as onboarding, work anniversaries or role changes. Exit Surveys collect feedback during offboarding. Butterfly EI results are anonymous except for Exit Surveys.
Marissa AI summarises answers to open-ended questions in Surveys and Team Pulse. Marissa can also help admins set up and launch an engagement survey from prompts. The admin reviews it before launch. Engagedly’s integrations include BambooHR, ADP Workforce Now, Gusto, Deel, Namely, Paychex, Paylocity, Personio, ZenHR, HiBob and Slack.
Our guide to employee engagement software explains how other products handle these questions.
Benchmarks, included advice and rules that hide who answered
Scores come with a benchmark
Insights lets you compare your scores with thousands of surveys across industries each year. You can assign and track culture initiatives in each department. Insights also gives strategies and quick actions, with expert guidance built in.
Advice comes with the subscription
Support comes with the subscription. It covers phone and email, and a Help Center that runs all day and night. You also get advice sessions with a Customer Success Manager. They cover survey planning, reading the results and planning action afterwards. Pro Support is priced through an Energage representative. It covers survey planning, help loading the employee list, and preparing results and messages.
Respondent emails stay with Energage
It uses the survey code only to stop repeat answers and to send reminders. It never releases results that include the code or an email address. It does not tell the employer which email addresses responded. Every survey question is optional. At Robertson, Ryan & Associates, the HR manager reports a response rate of 89%. That followed an assurance to employees that the process was 100% confidential.
Security and breach terms
Energage targets 99.9% availability each month for its platforms. Exclusions apply. It follows ISO 27001, NIST and COBIT. It commits to GDPR compliance. The Data Processing Addendum covers security breaches. It will tell you without undue delay. Where feasible, that is within 72 hours of awareness.
Named customers run from under 150 employees to about 2,500
Under 150 employees: AMSG and Nationwide Power Solutions
AMSG is in Dumfries, Virginia. It uses the Workplace Survey and Insights. Energage reports 97% of AMSG employees believe the company operates by strong values and is going in the right direction. Nationwide Power Solutions is in Henderson, Nevada. It is in the same band.
150 to 499: Great Prairie and REDW
Great Prairie Area Education Agency in Ottumwa, Iowa uses Workplace Survey and Insights. Energage reports a 90% response rate there. It also reports a 12 point rise in Overall Workplace Experience in one year. REDW in Albuquerque, New Mexico chose the Workplace Survey and added Pulse. Energage reports a 28% drop in regrettable turnover there. It also reports a 9 point rise in team member engagement.
About 2,500: Lou Malnati’s, Morgan Properties
Lou Malnati’s has 2,500 or more employees. It uses Workplace Survey and Insights. Morgan Properties has around 2,500 employees. It uses the Workplace Survey, Insights and consulting from Energage.
Paycor
Paycor’s Senior Manager of Employee Experience calls the platform and Top Workplaces awards critical to strategy. They report that the engagement score jumped 15 percent.
Energage keeps the raw answers, and the two survey lines follow different rules
Three questions decide this purchase. Who keeps the answers? Who can read them? What do you agree to by signing? The cards below answer them. Some cover Energage and some cover Engagedly.
The survey is also an entry to a public programme
The Workplace Survey qualifies the company for awards. That brings duties. Awards rest on the latest Workplace Survey finished within 12 months of the eligibility deadline. Under its General Terms, Energage or a partner may use your name and logo for an awards programme. They may also contact you about it. You agree not to opt out of Energage messages about running the programme during the term. Energage uses Aggregate Data to score the companies that take part. That is data with personal details removed. An applicant may be disqualified if more than 5% of its employees agreed they felt pressured to respond positively.
Raw answers stay with Energage
Under its General Terms, Energage does not give you Raw Survey Data. That means the confidential answers Energage receives from employees. It owns Raw Survey Data and Aggregate Data. You keep ownership of Customer Data. Comments reach the employer as written. It tries to delete identifying comments by hand. It cannot promise to find them all.
Two Energage documents treat AI training differently
Under its privacy policy, Energage will not use personal data to train AI. Its General Terms read differently. Section 11.7 covers AI features a customer uses directly. Input to them may be used to train and improve the AI models behind them. That is subject to the privacy policy. Its AI principles add a second use. It may use grouped data, with identifiers removed, to improve analytics, usability and model performance. Free-text comments may hold personal details. It does not separately find or remove them. You can opt out of AI features, in settings or by request, depending on the feature. The choice covers the whole company, not single users.
Team Pulse answers are visible to managers
In Engagedly Team Pulse, admins can view an employee’s responses. So can managers and anyone above the employee in the reporting chain. Only admins see answers to private questions. Anonymous responses can be collected only for private questions, through an admin setting. The Engagement Survey works differently. Managers cannot view the survey answers of their direct reports. An admin must contact Engagedly support to switch on the setting that allows it.
Smallest group shown varies by product
Energage never releases results for a group with fewer than five completed surveys. Engagedly’s help articles give other limits. The article on viewing analytics requires four responses and does not let admins go below four. The article on creating a survey sets four by default but allows as low as two. It warns that a lower limit may make it easier to identify respondents. General Engagedly Surveys need two responses.
A $50 limit on direct damages
Under its Terms of Service, Engagedly excludes liability for direct damages above $50.00. It also does not control your decisions on employment, promotion, termination or pay. Energage has its own General Terms. Ask which terms cover the Engagedly product you buy.
Where data goes
Energage may move personal data from the European Economic Area and Canada to the US. That covers processing and storage. Some may also go to India for processing, depending on the services used. Customers under European law can get a data protection contract. They can also get a list of suppliers and standard contractual clauses. It will tell you about suppliers added or removed at least 30 days ahead. It does this only if you opt in to notices.
Fees follow user numbers, and leaving early without cause owes the rest of the term
Your fee follows the Users in your Service Order. Leaving early without cause costs the rest of the term. A User is any administrator, manager, employee, survey invitee or survey respondent. You may be invoiced pro rata for Users added during the term. Subscription services are invoiced annually from the Contract Start Date.
Energage may change its fees for Subscription Services at any time. A change applies from the start of the next Subscription Term. The exception is where you exceed the Quantity of Users stated in a Service Order. Energage also offers Top Workplaces participation, surveys and awards at no cost. Ask what the Workplace Survey costs for your Users.
Three public US contracts with Energage, LLC give a sense of scale. In 2019 the General Services Administration committed $7,000 for a Top Workplaces survey. It covered its Region 8 office at the Denver Federal Center. In 2017 the Department of Veterans Affairs committed $15,500 on a contract it described as a yearly requirement. In 2015 it committed $12,400 for a workplace survey report for the Boston area. Ask Energage for a quote for your own Users.
Engagedly charges per user per month, billed annually. Prices vary with employee count and bundling. The minimum is $7,500 a year. The Engage and Listen Suite costs $2 per user per month, billed annually. It includes the Engagement Survey, Butterfly EI Employee Surveys and Team Pulse. The Performance Suite costs $5 to $8 per user per month, billed annually. Engagedly also sells an Essential professional services package for setup, training and ongoing support.
A subscription renews automatically unless you cancel in writing at least 30 days before the term ends. Energage gives notice of renewal at least 60 days before each term ends. A renewal is invoiced at a price not greater than 10% above the previous term. That limit does not apply if the order sets the renewal prices.
Leaving mid-term without cause costs the balance. If you end the contract without cause before the Contract End Date, you owe the remaining balance of the subscription. One way out with a refund is a loss of service. If the service materially loses functions and Energage cannot restore them within 15 days, you may end the subscription. You then get a pro rata refund of prepaid fees.
Other rules apply too. Either party may end a subscription at the end of the term, with no refunds. Energage may end it for any reason on at least 90 days’ written notice. That brings a pro rata refund of prepaid fees. Energage may collect outstanding fees if you do not use the services within one year of purchase.
Some Energage services let you export Customer Data at any time during the term. Energage does not promise that all data can be exported. Only data the confidentiality notice or privacy setting allows is transferred. You may use exported Reports for internal purposes only. On written request, Energage deletes all Customer Data from its production environments. For Workplace Culture Products, an emailed deletion request is completed within 35 business days. Energage keeps backup copies for a period it sets. Aggregate Data may be made public and used after the contract ends if it cannot identify Users.
You could also run survey steps with agents built on your own systems. We have mapped what that looks like. The HR Agent Map
Nine questions to settle before you sign
- Which terms cover the Engagedly surveys I buy, and what cap on your liability applies? Good answer: One named set of terms and a written cap in the order form.
- Will you send a file of each person’s answers, with identifiers removed, when the survey closes? Good answer: Yes, written into the order form, in a stated file format.
- Is the renewal price for each later year written into the order? Good answer: Yes, so the 10% limit never has to apply.
- Does an AI opt-out also stop my answers from training your models under section 11.7? Good answer: Yes, in writing, covering the AI features we use.
- What is the smallest group shown in each survey I buy, in Energage and in Engagedly? Good answer: One number for each survey, written into the order.
- Who can view Team Pulse answers, and can we turn on anonymous private questions for HR? Good answer: A list of roles, with anonymous private questions switched on where we want them.
- Which set of surveys forms the benchmark we would use, and how many does it hold? Good answer: A named industry and size group, with a survey count.
- Will you tell us about new suppliers that handle our data without us opting in? Good answer: Yes, 30 days ahead, written into the data protection contract.
- Does the Top Workplaces entry apply to our survey, and which recognition messages must we accept? Good answer: A clear answer for our contract, and the list of messages.
Alternatives to Energage, including buying nothing
Three alternatives follow, each tied to a place where Energage stops. Buying nothing is the last option.
Energage sells Pulse in addition to the Workplace Survey. Workleap suits a reader who wants short surveys all year. Its Officevibe product runs weekly pulse surveys, reminders to managers, custom questions and results by team.
Under its General Terms, Energage does not give you Raw Survey Data. Leapsome has an admin export of raw data, switched on before the first round. It shows respondent demographics per question and does not respect the anonymity threshold. If the export is on, participants are told the data can be exported.
Leapsome’s data processing agreement points the other way. It says anonymous surveys have technical restrictions that stop you reaching individual-level data by default. It also says any instruction to access or export such data, for example by bulk export, is outside the agreed scope. Ask Leapsome which applies to you. Decide who may switch the export on.
Quantum Workplace is the like-for-like second quote. It runs validated surveys, benchmarks results and helps managers act on them. Ask both vendors to quote for the same Users.
If your HR system already carries a survey, read our guide for companies whose HR system already runs surveys.
Buying nothing means no Top Workplaces entry. If you run a survey yourself, every response stays with you. Our market guide shows how to choose between these routes.
