Nectar Engage
Nectar Engage is the survey part of a recognition platform, and it reaches staff by text, Slack and Teams. Four things need a written answer before you sign. They are how AI starts, where data sits, whether benchmarks are live and how your results leave.
Nectar Engage is a survey sold with recognition, so check the AI and contract terms
Nectar Engage runs surveys inside a platform built around recognition. Check its AI settings and contract terms before you sign.
You want surveys, recognition and company messages from one supplier. You need to reach people with no work email or desk. You want HR to reply to anonymous comments in a private chat.
You need employee data held in Europe. Nectar hosts in the United States. Your legal team needs one clear answer on AI. Nectar’s documents give two. You need benchmarks on day one. Nectar’s pricing marks Engage benchmarking coming soon, but its Engage page offers it. Ask which is true for you.
Your order form sets it. Nectar prices per employee per month with tiers on its website. It also sells bundles with custom pricing.
Nectar Engage sends surveys by text, Slack, Teams and email, and can reward answers with points
Nectar Engage is the employee survey part of the Nectar platform. Nectar also sells Nectar Recognize for recognition and rewards, and Nectar Comms for company messages. Engage is sold together with Nectar Recognize. Nectar One brings recognition, messages, engagement and performance onto one platform. Nectar centres its mid-market range on 1,000 employees and serves customers above and below that band. It announced $40 million of committed Series B funding in April 2024.
Engage runs the full engagement survey and shorter check-ins in one product. Administrators build custom surveys with several question types and can mark questions required. eNPS asks how likely people are to recommend the company as a place to work. Nectar recommends a two-question format for it. eNPS can run monthly, quarterly or annually. Engage also runs pulse surveys. The engagement survey covers 10 pillars on one consistent rating scale. Templates for onboarding and exit surveys are part of Engage.
Results split by group, so HR can see where to act. They appear as an overall Engagement Score, split into pillars such as leadership, communication, belonging and recognition. Heatmaps split it by department, location or team. Analytics flag groups that are trending down, and bright spots. Administrators can combine scores with written feedback to plan changes. They can share results and action plans with employees.
Nectar sends surveys through five channels, so staff without a work email can still answer. Those channels are email, SMS, Slack, Microsoft Teams and the Recognition feed. Nectar calls the surveys mobile-friendly. In Teams, the channel for recognition is separate from the channels for company messages and surveys. Nectar supports 11 languages for its main buttons, navigation and system text. Ask which languages the survey questions themselves can be written in.
Each survey type sets whether answers carry names, and one number is still open. Open-ended answers can carry a name or stay anonymous. Nectar hides survey data until enough people have answered. Ask Nectar for that number. An Engage Admin role has access to all Engage settings.
Engage uses AI to read comments, which is why its AI settings matter. Every open-ended question gets an automatic summary of themes and sentiment. The summary cites verbatim comments. Clara, Nectar’s AI assistant, also brings themes and summaries into Engage. Clara queries platform data directly.
Nectar syncs people from many HR systems, so check that yours is on the list. The list includes ADP, BambooHR, Gusto, Namely, NetSuite, Paycor, Paylocity, Rippling, Workday and Zenefits. Users can sync automatically from an HR system. Nectar can send reward spending to Workday for payroll. Nectar puts implementation at four to six weeks in one place and “Live in 30 Days” in another.
Nectar also sells Signals. Signals turns activity already in Nectar into a 0 to 100 health score for each employee, team and department. It is a separate product from Engage.
Our guide to employee engagement software covers how the rest of this market handles anonymity and AI.
It reaches people without a desk and lets HR reply to anonymous comments
Staff without a work email can answer
Nectar sends surveys by text, Slack, Teams or mobile app. Employees need no work email or desk. Nectar’s eNPS survey gives desk-based, remote and frontline employees a voice.
HR can reply to anonymous comments
SafeTalk lets HR and leaders reply to open-text feedback without breaking anonymity. It is a two-way chat. Administrators send follow-up questions through a direct link delivered by email.
Answers can earn points
Participation can be rewarded with Nectar points, including in anonymous surveys. Rewards have their own billing terms, set out under price and leaving.
Accra reports engagement up from 50% to 72%
Accra has about 400 staff in its corporate office. It reports 72% of employees engaged in 2024 on its engagement survey. That is up from 68% in 2023 and 50% in 2021. Ask Nectar which products Accra used. Nectar’s results for Town of Mead, Cubic and 1st Choice Cabinetry are recognition results.
The AI setting, US hosting and benchmarks are the points to settle before signing
Six points below need a written answer. They cover how AI starts and how it learns from your data. They also cover which providers handle it and where it sits. The last two are whether benchmarks are live and how people are synced. The cards give Nectar’s own answers on each.
AI may start switched on
Nectar’s security whitepaper puts every customer in AI by default, with an opt-out. In its privacy policy, AI tools receive information after an organisation opts in. In Nectar’s help articles, an administrator switches AI summaries on or off in settings and consents to AI processing. Under Nectar’s agreement, AI tools may process or collect client data until an opt-out request. In limited scenarios that includes personal data. Some accounts cannot see the AI setting. In those, AI is either not turned on or not available.
Two answers on AI training
In Nectar’s security whitepaper, customer data is never used to train AI models. Under the agreement, Nectar may use or share client data to refine its own AI tools. That is solely for internal purposes or for the client’s benefit. In the privacy policy, an organisation that opts in consents to AI tools training and learning from its inputs. In the agreement, client data is not used to train AI tools for third-party products or public models.
AI providers handle some data
Nectar uses OpenAI for email content and administrative insights. Customers may use that service but are not required to. Nectar uses Anthropic for support analytics, automation and data-driven insights. Nectar’s sub-processor list puts both in the United States. Nectar shares limited data with AI providers, and requests and responses are encrypted in transit.
Hosted in the US
Nectar hosts the application and data in Google Cloud data centres in the United States. Daily backups are replicated to multiple regions within the US. Personal data from the EEA, UK and Switzerland may be processed outside those areas under Standard Contractual Clauses. Nectar labels its GDPR and CCPA/CPRA compliance as processor and service provider compliant, un-audited. Its SOC 2 Type II is dated 30 November 2024. Its targets for restoring service and for how much data could be lost are 24 hours each.
Benchmarks are marked coming soon
Benchmarking for Engage is marked coming soon in Nectar’s pricing. Nectar’s Engage page offers industry benchmarks. Benchmarks powered by Mercer data compare scores with companies in the same industry and size band. Ask whether they are live for your account.
File sync limits the account
With SFTP file sync, only people in the HR export file can exist in Nectar. SFTP is a secure file transfer from your HR system. Nectar’s open API connects other tools to Nectar. Its functions are financial reports, adding or updating users, custom awards and activity in the home feed. Access depends on plan. An account can create up to one key, which is the password another tool uses to connect.
Your order form sets the fee, and the export of your results is yours to make
Your order form sets the fee, so read it together with the agreement. You sign with PerkCity, Inc., a Delaware corporation that trades as Nectar HR. Nectar’s pages put its pricing two ways. One is per employee per month, with tiers on its website. The other is bundles with custom pricing. Pricing depends on team size and the products you choose. You can start with recognition and add the rest of the platform later.
The order form may carry a price per user. The agreement’s own example is 80 users at $7.00 per user, or $560 per year. That is an illustration, not a quoted price. The order form may instead carry a flat annual or multi-year fee that does not set a number of users. It may also carry a minimum amount, billed if you provide fewer users than the order form sets.
In Nectar’s help articles, the contract sets the number of licences and Nectar bills per active user. If you go over, the count rises and Nectar charges accordingly. Empty seats are not refunded. Access fees are nonrefundable except as the agreement expressly sets out. Invoices over $6,000.00 paid by credit card may carry a processing fee. Services such as manual data entry or branded swag may carry additional fees.
Rewards have their own billing terms. A credit card payment for rewards carries a fee of 3.5% plus $0.40 per transaction. Post-pay billing needs a security deposit of 20% of estimated annual reward fees, with a minimum of $100. On written request, Nectar refunds any remaining balance in the rewards account if you cancel with unused funds.
The agreement renews for successive one-year periods unless either party gives 30 days’ written notice before expiry. The per-unit price rises 6% at the end of each services or renewal period unless waived. A rise above 6% needs 15 days’ notice before expiry and a chance to terminate. Unpaid fees carry a finance charge of 1.5% per month. Nectar may terminate if payment is more than 15 days overdue after written notice.
Nectar’s total liability is capped at the fees paid and accrued in the twelve months before the event. Reward fees are excluded. Utah law governs the agreement. Disputes go to Utah’s Third District Court or the US District Court for the District of Utah. Nectar gives no warranty on the security or results of its AI tools. It is not liable for damages from using them. That applies to the extent they are not related to a breach or omission on Nectar’s part.
Under Nectar’s agreement, the client is solely responsible for exporting or keeping a copy of its client data and reports. That duty applies before the agreement ends. After it ends, Nectar has no obligation to maintain or recover client data, except where the law requires it.
On written request, including after termination, Nectar HR destroys or returns all personal data, at its choice. Personal data stays until the client requests return or destruction. Backup data is fully expunged after one month. Nectar may keep the names and emails of the client and its users after termination for internal business purposes. It keeps aggregated, anonymised usage data during and after the services period.
You could also run survey steps with agents built on your own systems. We have mapped what that looks like. The HR Agent Map
Nine questions to put to Nectar before you sign
- Is AI switched on for our account on day one, and who can switch it off? Good answer: A written yes or no, and a named administrator who can change it.
- May Nectar use or share our data to refine its own AI tools? Good answer: The order form limits any use to our own account.
- How many answers must a group give before its results appear? Good answer: A fixed number we can tell employees.
- Where are our employees’ data and backups stored and processed, including by AI providers? Good answer: A named country for each, and the transfer terms we sign.
- Are Engage benchmarks live for us, and which companies do they compare us with? Good answer: Live today, with the industry and size band named.
- What is our total fee, any minimum, and the renewal price? Good answer: One order form line for each, with the renewal price fixed.
- How and when do we export our results before the agreement ends? Good answer: A stated file format and a date written into the contract.
- Do points given for survey answers fall under the rewards billing terms? Good answer: A clear yes or no, with any deposit and fees spelled out.
- Is go-live four to six weeks or 30 days, and which goes in the contract? Good answer: One date, written into the order form.
Alternatives to Nectar, including buying nothing
If Nectar Engage comes off your list, look at Lattice, Gallup and Perceptyx. Each one answers a point where Nectar stops.
Nectar’s documents disagree on whether AI starts switched on. Lattice gives an administrator the switch. An admin must enable Lattice AI to reach Engagement Insights, and admins can turn each AI feature on or off. A Lattice feature left off shares no data with OpenAI. Lattice uses OpenAI’s models. In its 17 October 2025 update, Lattice said it would stop scrubbing personal details. That covers data its AI features send to OpenAI.
Nectar’s pricing marks Engage benchmarking coming soon, while its Engage page offers industry benchmarks. Gallup benchmarks results against one of the largest employee datasets. Customers can set a primary benchmark database and up to four more comparisons. Q12 results can be compared with industry, competitor and top-quartile benchmarks.
Nectar hosts in the United States. It processes personal data from the EEA, UK and Switzerland outside those areas under Standard Contractual Clauses. For EU-based customers, Perceptyx hosts data in its AWS environment in Frankfurt, Germany. Ask Perceptyx where the data of customers outside the EU sits.
Buying nothing means none of the Nectar terms above. It also means no SafeTalk replies to anonymous comments. It means no survey links by text or Slack. It means no points for answering. If your HR system already runs surveys, read our guide for HR system owners.
