Lattice

Lattice listens in two ways that protect people differently. Engagement surveys can hide a name. Updates ratings keep it. The individual-response export may keep manager and department fields. AI features reach OpenAI once an admin switches them on. The contract renews on its own. Two Lattice documents give different exit terms.

Lattice sells surveys beside reviews, and its AI runs on OpenAI

In one line

Lattice sells surveys beside reviews, goals and an HR system. Its weekly rating is linked to a name.

Buy it if

You want surveys and weekly check-ins from a vendor that also sells reviews and goals. You can sign a yearly contract billed in US dollars.

Do not buy it if

You need the weekly Updates rating to be anonymous. Updates ratings are linked to a person. An anonymous weekly read means using Pulse instead. You need to pay monthly. Lattice bills every contract once a year.

Price

Engagement costs $4 per seat per month. A minimum annual agreement of $4,000 can include different products. Lattice bills in US dollars only. Fees are nonrefundable except as the terms expressly provide.

Engagement runs the surveys and Updates collects a weekly rating

Lattice Engagement measures engagement, finds the key drivers and helps managers act on results. It runs pulse surveys, onboarding and exit surveys, eNPS and custom surveys. eNPS asks whether staff would recommend the employer as a place to work. The Engagement template has five engagement questions, eNPS and questions across 11 themes. Question bank questions use an agree or disagree scale with an optional comment, unless noted. Custom questions must fit that format or be open-ended.

The two main survey types run on different clocks. An admin launches an Engagement survey by hand and ends it by hand. It does not close on its end date. Pulse launches on its schedule, every week, every two weeks or every month. Only one Pulse can run at a time. Pulse questions arrive at random times between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Results come as a colour grid of scores by group. Groups can be age, gender, tenure, manager, department, job function, job level or custom fields. An admin can compare a survey with a previous survey or a Lattice benchmark. Compare works for agree or disagree questions only. After a survey, managers build action plans from suggested actions grouped by theme. Action plans exist only for completed engagement surveys. The results view must be shared first.

An admin has to switch Lattice AI on before Engagement Insights work. They summarise open comments into two to seven trends. Each trend has a summary and a recommendation. Key driver analysis needs eNPS in the survey.

Lattice Updates is the weekly check-in. A manager sets a template that goes to employees weekly, every two weeks or monthly. With the Employee Sentiment Score on, everyone is asked “How are you feeling this week?” They rate it from 1 to 5 and can add context. An admin switches the score on or off. Managers can comment on updates. Lattice includes Updates with Performance, Goals and OKRs, or Engagement.

Two choices are fixed once a survey starts. An admin picks Anonymous or Identifiable when creating an Engagement survey. The setting cannot change after launch. The raw export of individual responses must also be enabled during set-up. Settle both before you tell staff what the survey is.

Lattice also sells reviews and goals. Our performance management guide has a page on Lattice for performance reviews. Our guide to employee engagement software covers how the rest of this market works.

Admins control group size and AI, and benchmarks have two named sources

The smallest group shown is adjustable

An admin sets it from 3 to 10 and the default is 5. An admin can edit it while the survey runs or after it ends. Lattice warns that a lower value may make participants feel vulnerable and answer less honestly. Strong protection also hides the next smallest group. All engagement surveys start on basic protection, which does not. Admins can combine small departments into custom groups so results can show.

Benchmarks come from two named sources

Lattice compares a customer with other Lattice customers and with Mercer’s global data. Mercer adds more than 1,500,000 employee survey responses each year. In May 2025 Lattice reported benchmarks from more than 5,000 organisations using it. Cuts by employee count run 0 to 250, 251 to 750 and 751 and up. Custom questions and edited default questions are not eligible for benchmarking.

AI is optional, feature by feature

An admin can switch all Lattice AI features on or off. Admins can toggle each feature, including Engagement Insights. Disabled AI is hidden for all users. A feature left off shares no data with OpenAI.

Staff can answer where they already work

Employees can answer Pulse questions in Slack, with an anonymous comment. They can also complete an Engagement survey in the Lattice mobile app. The Teams app sends Engagement and Pulse notifications. Admins can copy a respondent link as well.

Comment replies keep the writer anonymous

Super admins, survey admins and managers can reply to comments on Engagement surveys. The writer stays anonymous and sees who replied. In Pulse, only admins can reply to anonymous comments. Lattice advises telling employees before the survey that named people can reply.

An outside audit covers four areas

Lattice holds a SOC 2 Type II certificate. It covers Security, Confidentiality, Availability and Privacy. Its data processing addendum promises notice of a security incident. Notice comes without undue delay and within seventy-two hours.

Customer stories range from startups to companies over 1,000 employees

Startups use Engagement

GoodUnited, in Charleston, South Carolina, grew from 30 to 55 employees in a year and uses Engagement. Sensat, in London, uses Engagement and has grown to 100 employees.

GreenState reports 300 hours back

GreenState, in North Liberty, Iowa, uses Lattice onboarding surveys. It reports that they put 300 hours back.

Customers report most staff answering

Customers of different sizes report their own completion rates. Liferay has more than 1,000 employees and reports engagement survey completion approaching 90%. JustAnswer reports an average participation rate of 93%. SAC Health reports 70%.

Weave reports 30 hours saved

Weave, a software company in Utah, uses AI on survey comments. The AI produces takeaways and recommended actions. Weave reports this saves its HR team about 30 hours per survey.

Weekly ratings carry names, and switched-on AI sends data to OpenAI

Most limits below come down to one question. Who can see which person gave an answer? Updates ratings keep the name. The individual-response export may keep manager and department fields. Identifiable surveys link answers to a name. That includes onboarding and exit surveys.

Weekly ratings roll up by person and manager

Each rating is linked to the person who gave it. Private updates are visible to the employee, their manager and admins. The Updates log gives the average score each person submitted. The People Analytics Summary averages the score for the organisation. It also breaks the score down by manager.

The export carries every response

An admin can enable an export of every individual response. That holds for anonymous surveys, and comments come with it. Manager and department fields may remain in it. The raw engagement export includes every response, whatever threshold is set. Lattice tells participants on the survey welcome page when the export is on. The export is not available in Pulse. By default anonymous surveys give only aggregate results.

Lifecycle surveys link answers to people

Onboarding and exit surveys are identifiable, so the account admin can follow up. In an identifiable survey, responses link to the employee’s name. Exit surveys are not automated, and Lattice supports one exit survey. Onboarding survey notifications go only by email.

AI sends data to OpenAI once switched on

Customers opt in to each AI feature. Lattice announced it would stop removing personal details before AI features send data to OpenAI. Engagement Insights is among the affected features in its update of 17 October 2025. The same update adds that OpenAI and Lattice never train AI models on customer data. Lattice has also agreed Zero Data Retention with OpenAI, so OpenAI does not store customer data. Lattice’s AI Terms add that Lattice may use anonymised, aggregated data and feedback from the customer to improve Lattice AI. Its list of other companies that handle data places OpenAI in the United States.

The customer carries the AI duties

The AI Terms make the customer solely responsible for its AI-use policies. That covers transparency notices, consents the law requires and enough human oversight. AI output may be inaccurate, offensive or not meet the customer’s legal duties. Lattice may change, suspend or discontinue Lattice AI at any time.

Data sits in one region

Customers host Lattice data in the US or the EU. A customer cannot hold data in both. EU hosting is for new customers only. It is primary in Frankfurt with backup in Dublin on AWS. Lattice also moves EU-hosted data outside the EU. Lattice and the other companies that handle the data process it there.

Each user needs a company email address

Each user needs a unique email address on the company’s domain. The terms require this unless the order form provides otherwise. Admins can also upload a participant list made only of email addresses.

Survey text is not translated

An English survey is not translated for users who set another language. English is the official supported language of Lattice. That includes default notifications, buttons and emails. Its language preferences run from Chinese (Traditional) to Vietnamese and include Dutch, French and German.

What signing commits you to, and what you can take back out

Signing with Lattice commits you to a yearly contract that renews automatically. This section covers that commitment and what you can take back out. The exit terms matter most, because two Lattice documents give different versions.

Engagement costs $4 per seat per month. That price covers Pulse, onboarding and exit surveys, action planning, eNPS and AI analysis and trends. Updates comes with Performance, Goals and OKRs, or Engagement. All base products include Analytics, the AI Agent and Integrations. A minimum annual agreement of $4,000 applies and can include different products. Engagement alone costs $48 per seat a year. It reaches $4,000 at about 84 seats.

The billing terms are fixed. Lattice bills every contract once a year and in US dollars only. Fees are nonrefundable except as the terms expressly provide. Fees per user cover the initial number of users plus users added during a term, prorated. Invoices are due within thirty days. Enterprise pricing varies with seats, complexity and scale.

Renewal is automatic, so the notice date decides your cost. Software order forms renew for a term of the same length. Either party may give notice at least thirty days before the term ends. Lattice may raise fees at renewal on 45 days’ notice. The rise is capped at 5% above the list price. That is the price in effect when the renewal term starts.

Lattice promises no extra cost for implementation or change management. This covers its performance management software. Ask whether that covers Engagement. Every contract includes dedicated human support from the customer success team.

The protections are narrow. The Enterprise and Business service level agreements both use 99.5% monthly availability. Lattice commits to commercially reasonable measures to meet it. Each party’s total liability is capped. The cap is the fees paid or payable in the twelve months before the event. Disputes go to binding arbitration in San Francisco County, California. The data processing addendum is not negotiable.

Before you sign, decide how you will get your survey history back. Lattice’s documents give two versions. Its help centre puts the end of access at expiry. Reports must be downloaded beforehand. There, Lattice deletes all account data 180 days after expiry or termination. This happens automatically. Its terms offer a downloadable file of customer content on request, at termination or at expiry. They keep content inactive for six months and then delete it. Lattice may reduce the number of days it keeps content.

Admins can export Engagement and Pulse data survey by survey. Results export as CSV, with score and sentiment counts by theme, question or comment. The PowerPoint export covers only agree or disagree questions. A customer can ask for account data to be deleted at once on cancellation. This is subject to identity verification.

You could also run survey steps with agents built on your own systems. We have mapped what that looks like. The HR Agent Map

Eleven questions for the sales call

  1. Does Updates come with Engagement alone, and where does the order form say so? Good answer: A line in the order form that covers Updates.
  2. Which products and seats does the $4,000 minimum cover? Good answer: A named list of products and seats on the order form.
  3. What is the last date to give notice, and what is the renewal cap? Good answer: A calendar date and a cap on our own fee, in writing.
  4. Can the order form keep every AI feature off, new ones included? Good answer: Off at signing, with a named admin to switch any on.
  5. Will personal details be removed again before data reaches OpenAI? Good answer: Yes, in the order form, for Engagement Insights.
  6. Who on our side can enable the export of individual responses? Good answer: A named admin, plus the welcome-page notice for participants.
  7. Who can read the weekly rating next to a name, and for how long? Good answer: A short list of roles and a retention period in writing.
  8. Which file do we get when the contract ends, and by what date? Good answer: A named file format and a date in the order form.
  9. Which processing steps happen outside the EU if we choose EU hosting? Good answer: A named country for each company that handles the data.
  10. Does the promise of no extra implementation cost cover Engagement? Good answer: Yes, written in the order form.
  11. Can people without a company email address take part? Good answer: A named method, tested before we sign.

Alternatives to Lattice, including buying nothing

TINYpulse answers one place where Lattice stops. Darwinbox answers another. Buying nothing is a third route.

Look at TINYpulse if an export must never point back to a person. Lattice’s individual-response export carries every response and comment. That holds whatever threshold is set. Manager and department fields may remain in it. TINYpulse’s terms keep respondent anonymity in exports. Check the survey type first. In its Confidential surveys, Super Admins can receive respondents’ email addresses. They get them through the API or the export tool.

Look at Darwinbox if HR events should start surveys. Lattice launches Engagement surveys by hand, and exit surveys are not automated. Darwinbox surveys can be triggered by promotions, transfers and exits. Its product also runs pulse surveys and lifecycle feedback. Ask Darwinbox which HR events start which surveys.

If your HR system already runs surveys, read our guide for HR system owners.

Buying nothing means no vendor holds weekly ratings beside a person’s name. It also means no annual, US-dollar contract. That contract renews automatically unless notice comes at least thirty days before the term ends. You would give up the weekly sentiment average by manager and Pulse answers inside Slack.
