Lattice drafts the review from your data, and the reviewer picks every rating
Lattice Performance runs your review round. Its AI drafts written answers from your own Lattice data, and the reviewer picks every rating. It costs $10 per user per month, with a $4,000 minimum each year. Under its AI terms, you carry the consents and the human checks.
Should you buy Lattice Performance?
Lattice Performance runs review rounds and drafts the written answers from your own Lattice data. The reviewer confirms each draft and picks every rating by hand. It costs $10 per user per month.
You want AI to draft review answers while reviewers keep the ratings. You want reviews, rating review meetings and improvement plans under one price. You can accept a contract that renews on its own.
You need Lattice to carry the consents and human checks for its AI. You want one place inside Lattice to control which outside AI tools staff connect. Lattice has no separate permission settings for those tools.
Performance costs $10 per user per month. Lattice bills yearly, with a $4,000 minimum each year. Review drafts and the AI Agent come at no extra cost. Goals, Engagement and other products cost more.
How a Lattice review round runs
Lattice Performance runs annual reviews, quarterly development rounds, project reviews and automated reviews. An admin builds each round from templates and sets automatic rules. A round can include a calibration step, which is a rating review meeting. Lattice assigns reviewers from the current org chart. Under its help article on creating a round, reviewers lock when the round is created. Under its Reviews page, a round can take changes mid-round.
Automated rules start onboarding and probation reviews a set number of days after a start date. A repeating rule creates reviews again after every set number of days. These reviews have no rating review meeting and no weighted score. Weighted scores work in org-chart rounds and project rounds. An admin can enter the final overall score for each person once the writing ends.
Evidence-based Review Drafts write a first draft when a reviewer opens a review. The draft comes from past Lattice data and connected tools. It looks back six months by default. It works in upward, self and downward reviews. Upward means team members reviewing their manager. Downward means a manager reviewing a team member. It does not work in peer reviews. The draft uses only what the writer may see. With too little data, the draft box stays blank.
The reviewer can skip the draft and start from scratch. The reviewer picks every rating by hand. The AI Agent cannot select ratings or submit a review. Before submitting, the reviewer confirms the review is accurate and takes responsibility for it. Writing Assist is a separate tool that makes answers more concise, precise, inclusive and actionable. It sends the review text to OpenAI. It is not available when Evidence-based reviews are on.
Performance Summarization turns feedback and reviews from the current round into key trends. A manager writing a review can see a summary of the round’s other reviews and a summary of feedback. In rating review meetings, admins, participants and facilitators see packet summaries. Calibration applies a company standard to the rating scale and updates scores to match. It covers ratings that managers submit. If a rating was calibrated, the employee sees only the calibrated rating.
Performance improvement plans, called PIPs, start with the manager. HR approves them before they are shared.
The Lattice AI Agent answers staff questions from uploaded HR documents and from Lattice data. It can take actions from chat. Admins can switch it on for chosen employees by department, location or custom field.
The AI Agent can also take notes in one-to-one meetings between two employees. A participant must invite it, unless an admin switches on auto-add. It announces that it is recording and transcribing. It works in Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams, in English only, and not in ad-hoc meetings. It writes summaries, action items, agenda ideas and coaching insights. Coaching insights stay private to each participant. Admins and HR business partners cannot view transcripts or insights.
Lattice also has a link, called MCP, that lets outside AI tools work with Lattice data. Claude and ChatGPT are examples. MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It is separate from Lattice AI. Through it, a user can draft, edit and submit reviews from the outside tool. Slackbot connected to it can draft and submit reviews. The link gives manager and employee abilities only, not admin abilities.
Lattice writes downward ratings and weighted scores into Workday. It reads employee data from Workday over SFTP, a secure file transfer. Review comments and review packet PDFs do not sync to Workday. Lattice reads employees from ADP, BambooHR, HiBob and Rippling. UKG Pro, Gusto, Namely and Zenefits feed Lattice one way. A public API, which lets other programs read and write Lattice data, is available to admins and developers.
To see the whole market, read our guide to performance management software. To line Lattice up against other products in one table, use the comparison.
What Lattice does well
Drafts use only what the writer may see
The draft context is limited to what the person writing the review may see. A reviewer can skip the draft. Ratings stay manual. The reviewer confirms accuracy and takes responsibility before submitting.
Admins can switch all Lattice AI off
Admins can enable or disable all Lattice AI features and manage each AI tool. With AI disabled, every AI feature is hidden from all users, including admins. Lattice commits to opt-in for each feature in its AI FAQ. Under the AI FAQ, data is not shared with OpenAI for features left off. Under its help articles, Evidence-based reviews are an exception.
Outside AI providers do not train on your data
Lattice does not let outside AI providers use customer data to train models. OpenAI does not use API data to train its models, and Lattice has not opted in. Lattice has set up Zero Data Retention with OpenAI. Under its AI terms, Lattice may still use anonymised, aggregated data and feedback to improve Lattice AI.
Implementation costs nothing extra
Lattice charges nothing extra for change management or implementation of the performance product. Evidence-based Review Drafts come with every Performance subscription at no additional cost. Performance improvement plans are included too.
You choose US or EU hosting
Customers can host data in the US or the EU. EU hosting is in Frankfurt with a Dublin backup.
A damaging update lets you end the affected part
If an update materially diminishes your use of the service, you can end the affected part of the order form. You then get a prorated refund.
Who uses Lattice today
UNREAL Snacks, Foster Made and Sensat run at 100 people or fewer
Lattice tags UNREAL Snacks and Foster Made as startups with fewer than 100 people. Foster Made had 20 or 21 people when it rolled out weekly updates. It has just started quarterly reviews and one-to-one meetings. UNREAL Snacks reports that 100% of managers completed reviews on time. Sensat grew to 100 employees and reports a 100% review completion rate.
Huge has nearly 1,000 people
Huge has nearly 1,000 employees. It reports about 2,000 hours recovered by dropping annual peer review cycles.
Monzo and Braze have over 1,000 people
Monzo Bank has over 1,500 employees. It used Lattice for rating review meetings for the first time in its latest round. Monzo reports review completion rates rising cycle upon cycle because of Lattice. Lattice puts Braze in its Enterprise group of 1,000+ employees.
GoCardless and Waterford.org report faster, fuller reviews
GoCardless went from four reviews a year with 62% employee participation to twice-yearly reviews with 100% participation. Waterford.org reports that managers write reviews twice as fast, and employees three times as fast, with Lattice AI. Lattice reports that early users of review drafts finished reviews 47% faster on average.
Degree, Inc. trades as Lattice. It is a Delaware corporation. Lattice builds the review product for organisations of all sizes and serves nearly 5,000 customers worldwide. A $175 million Series F in January 2022 brought its total funding to over $330 million. Lattice acquired Mandala’s AI-native coaching technology and hired its founder. It also acquired Pando, a performance platform.
Where Lattice stops, and what you carry under its contract
The EU AI Act puts AI that evaluates people’s performance at work in its high-risk group. An exemption under Article 6(3) can apply. The high-risk duties for employment systems start on 2 December 2027. If you review staff in the EU, ask Lattice which position it takes on its drafts.
Review drafts switch on with the AI Agent
Lattice commits to opt-in for each AI feature in its AI FAQ. Under its help articles, Evidence-based reviews switch on by themselves when the AI Agent is on. They apply to every review round and cannot be set round by round. An admin can turn them off in the AI feature settings.
Under the AI terms, you carry the consents and checks
Under Lattice’s AI terms, you alone are responsible for AI-use policies, notices, consents and human oversight. You also confirm that you hold the consents Lattice and its providers need to process personal data for Lattice AI. Lattice is not responsible for bias or unfairness in the underlying algorithms or data. You may not use Lattice AI to mislead anyone that an output came only from a person.
Lattice exercises no control over your decisions
Under the Terms of Service, Lattice exercises no control over your employment decisions, such as promotion and termination. In its AI FAQ, Lattice tells customers not to rely on AI to decide who is on or off track. It also tells them not to rely on it to decide who is promoted. It tells them not to rely on it to communicate nuanced feedback. In its help articles, Lattice warns that AI analysis may be inaccurate or contain implicit bias.
Lattice may change or stop the AI at any time
Under the AI terms, Lattice may change, suspend or discontinue Lattice AI at any time. In the AI Agent FAQ, Lattice warns that the Agent can give incorrect information. Users should cross-check anything critical.
Staff can submit reviews from an outside AI tool
Staff can draft, edit and submit reviews from an outside AI tool through the MCP link. One tool moves a draft review to submitted. Another tool saves answers to an open review draft. The MCP link uses the same permissions as Lattice itself. It has no permission settings of its own. To control which employees connect AI tools, customers set access inside their AI platform. The Lattice AI Agent, by contrast, cannot submit a review.
Two Lattice pages disagree on changing reviewers
Under its help article on creating a review round, reviewers lock when the round is created. Under its Reviews page, a round can take changes mid-round. A submitted review locks until an admin reopens the round. Weighted scores and calibration are not available in automated-rule reviews.
Outside companies handle your data
OpenAI supplies the AI model and is located in the US. Merge links data for certain AI features, in the US and the EU. Recall.ai transcribes the one-to-one meetings. LangSmith monitors the AI features. Lattice’s data contract is not negotiable.
EU hosting is new customers only, and some work happens outside the EU
EU hosting is for new customers only. EU-hosted data is processed outside the EU for service delivery. Under the data contract, Lattice may transfer and process customer data in the US. It may also do so wherever it, its affiliates or its providers operate.
Lattice works towards 99.5% uptime under both service agreements
Under the Business service level agreement (SLA), Lattice takes commercially reasonable measures to reach 99.5% uptime each month. Under the Enterprise SLA, the figure is also 99.5%. Under it, you get a bill reduction of 3% of amounts paid, pro-rated for the month. That applies when uptime falls below 99.5% but stays at 99.0% or above. Under the Enterprise SLA, you can also leave without penalty after long downtime. Long means unscheduled downtime in a quarter above three consecutive days or seven business days.
Liability is capped and disputes go to arbitration
Each side’s maximum liability is the fees paid or payable in the 12 months before the event. Fees are non-refundable unless the Terms say otherwise. Disputes go to binding arbitration under California law. The American Arbitration Association runs it. Under the data contract, Lattice has 72 hours to tell you about a security incident.
Recording and health data have their own rules
The one-to-one note-taker announces that it is recording. In its note-taker privacy article, Lattice advises checking local regulations. California law punishes recording a confidential communication on purpose without the consent of all parties (Penal Code 632(a)). Lattice is not designed to store protected health information (PHI) and prohibits it.
Lattice dropped a plan for AI workers
Bank Info Security reported that Lattice announced AI bots with employee records. It dropped the plan three days later after social media criticism. On 12 July 2024, Lattice’s CEO posted that Lattice will not further pursue digital workers in the product.
What Lattice costs, and how you leave
Lattice Performance costs $10 per seat per month. A seat is one user, and the count includes both active and invited users. Lattice bills in US dollars only. The minimum annual agreement is $4,000, so a team of 34 or more reaches it on Performance alone. At $10 a user and yearly billing, 200 users cost $24,000 a year and 500 users cost $60,000.
Performance includes performance reviews, succession planning, promotions, performance improvement plans, talent reviews and calibration. It also includes one-to-one meetings, weekly updates, feedback and Q&A boards. The AI Agent comes with every base product.
Other products cost extra per seat per month. Goals & OKRs costs $8. OKRs means objectives and key results. Engagement costs $4. A Foundations package costs $13. Compensation adds $6. Grow adds $4 and covers competencies, development plans, career tracks and AI growth areas. Performance and Goals & OKRs can be bought separately. Enterprise pricing is a custom quote.
On its pricing page, Lattice bills every contract annually. In its invoice FAQ, Lattice gives growth examples for quarterly and semi-annual billing. Added users are charged on the last day of the month they join. Lattice does not refund a seat if you cut your user count after growing. Invoices are due within 30 days.
Under the Terms of Service, order forms renew automatically for the same length as the first term. Either side may end an order form with written notice at least 30 days before the term ends. A renewal fee rise needs 45 days’ written notice. Renewal fees cannot rise more than 5% above list price.
When the subscription ends, you lose access to your Lattice data. You may request your content back at any time. Lattice also makes a downloadable file available on request or when the subscription ends. Lattice’s trust FAQ and Terms of Service put the deletion wait at six months. Its data contract and its data exports article put it at 180 days. Admins can download all review packets of a round as PDFs. They can export review responses to CSV, round by round. A CSV file opens in a spreadsheet. Past reviews can be uploaded as PDFs, but Customer Care must switch that on.
You could also run review steps with agents built on your own systems. We have mapped what that looks like. The HR Agent Map
What to ask Lattice before you sign
- On its pricing page, Lattice bills every contract annually. In its invoice FAQ, Lattice gives growth examples for quarterly and semi-annual billing. Which billing cadence will our order form use? Good answer: The cadence we want, in the order form.
- What is in the $13 Foundations package, and does it include Performance? Good answer: A named list of products and a price per user for our headcount.
- Does the $4,000 minimum apply again at each renewal? Good answer: The minimum rule, in the order form.
- In your AI FAQ, you commit to opt-in for each feature. In your help articles, Evidence-based reviews switch on with the AI Agent. Will drafts stay off until our admin switches them on? Good answer: Yes, with the setting confirmed in writing before the first round.
- In the EU, which Article 6(3) condition do you rely on for review drafts? Have you registered the system under Article 49(2)? Good answer: A named condition and a registration answer in writing for a legal adviser.
- How can we stop staff connecting outside AI tools and submitting reviews through MCP? Good answer: A control we can check ourselves, or a written list of the controls in each AI platform.
- Under your help article on creating a round, reviewers lock at creation. Under your Reviews page, a round can take changes mid-round. What can an admin change after launch, such as a new manager? Good answer: A written list of what can change, and what happens to reviews already started.
- Will you give written notice and a refund if you change, suspend or stop an AI feature? Good answer: A notice period and a prorated refund for the affected part, in the order form.
- Which service promise applies to us, the Business SLA or the Enterprise SLA? What bill reduction applies under the Business SLA? Good answer: A named SLA with a bill reduction schedule in our order form.
- Will you give more than 45 days’ notice of a renewal fee rise? Will you cap it below 5% above list price? Good answer: A longer notice period and a lower cap, in the order form.
- How long do you keep our data after the contract ends? Your trust FAQ puts it at six months. Your data contract puts it at 180 days. Good answer: One deletion date and a return file in a named format.
- How long are one-to-one transcripts kept? Your privacy article lets admins set up to 12 months. Once retention is switched on, the default is the contract term plus 180 days. Good answer: One retention period set by our admin, with deletion confirmed.
Alternatives to Lattice
The alternatives are Betterworks, 15Five, PerformYard, Culture Amp, Leapsome, Risely’s Merlin or buying nothing.
Betterworks costs $8 per user per month for its Performance package, with AI assistance included. Its $9 Performance + Talent Intelligence package adds anytime calibration. Betterworks charges once for implementation, and Signature Support costs extra. Betterworks sees its most value in organisations of over 500 employees.
15Five Perform costs $11 per user per month, billed annually. Perform includes AI-Assisted Reviews, which left beta on 17 September 2026. Its Total Platform costs $16 and includes it too.
PerformYard costs $5 to $15 per person per month, billed annually. The price varies with employee count and the products chosen. Onboarding and training cost nothing extra. Links to your main HR system and staff sign-in with the company login come with every plan.
Culture Amp prices Perform by quote. The price depends on employee count, the product and the service tier, and all products are billed annually. AI Coach comes with every plan.
Leapsome costs EUR 7 per employee per month for Performance Reviews. A platform sits under it, and the platform is always part of the plan. The platform is free with any Talent Suite product until 31 December. Leapsome charges one price per employee per month with no setup fees.
Risely’s Merlin is an AI coach from Risely, and it does a narrower job than Lattice. Merlin runs no review round, so you would still need Lattice or another product for that. It coaches managers as they draft review feedback against the company’s own standards and guidelines. A manager can bring feedback already drafted, and Merlin coaches them to match the guidelines. Merlin also coaches managers on good habits for constructive feedback. The company’s admin builds the guidelines in Risely. Risely includes review-feedback coaching in its enterprise plan. The manager writes the feedback and picks the rating, and Merlin leaves the rating to them.
Buying nothing means running reviews with the tools you use today. It avoids a $4,000 yearly minimum and a contract that renews on its own.
