Culture Amp Perform is priced by quote and its AI never picks a rating
Culture Amp Perform runs review rounds, goals and 1-on-1 meetings. Its AI helps managers write and does not pick ratings. Culture Amp prices Perform by quote. Read on for what the AI reads, what the contract holds and what to ask.
Culture Amp Perform in short
Perform runs review rounds with self-reflections, peer feedback, feedback about managers and manager reviews. Three AI features help managers write. Culture Amp prices it by quote.
You want AI that helps managers write and never suggests a rating. You want a calibration screen that brings in up to three past rounds. You run reviews in many languages.
You want a published price to compare. You need a test account for the AI. You need one file with all your data when the contract ends. You need to run reviews with all AI switched off.
Priced by quote. It depends on your headcount, the products you pick and the service tier. Every product is billed yearly.
What a review round looks like, and what the three AI features read
A review round has four parts. They are self-reflections, where employees review their own work, peer feedback, feedback about managers and manager reviews. An admin can run all four or any mix. The parts cannot change once the round is scheduled or live. Once any part is live, you cannot add or remove questions, rating scales or answer choices. In the manager review, managers evaluate direct reports on performance, growth potential and fit with company goals.
An admin can switch on a review acknowledgement. When it is on, the employee has seven days after a manager shares a review to confirm they discussed it. New hires get probation reviews with set checkpoints and reminders. Perform also holds goals and 1-on-1 meetings. Both people can add agenda items to a 1-on-1. Personal notes stay visible to their author only.
AI Coach is a chat assistant
Managers use it to write reviews. Employees use it for their self-reflections and for feedback to peers and managers. The manager guides it with context and prompts, and it can shorten a draft, expand it or change its tone. Before it writes a first draft, it asks the manager for their input. By default it reads feedback from the past 12 months. It will not suggest a final rating or comment on promotion readiness. Chats are private. Nobody else in the company can read them, including managers and admins.
Suggest Improvements tightens written feedback
It checks written feedback and offers edits that make it more specific, actionable and objective. The manager can accept or ignore each suggestion. It works in manager reviews, peer feedback, feedback about managers, feedback given at any time, manager-requested feedback and probation reviews. It does not work in self-reflections.
Highlights and Opportunities summarises recent feedback
It gives up to three recurring strengths and up to three growth areas for an employee. Strengths come from positive and recognition feedback. Growth areas come from constructive feedback. The summary appears on the manager’s review form. It looks back six months by default and can be set to three, six, nine or twelve months.
Culture Amp links to your main HR system three ways. Nine have a built-in link. They are Workday, BambooHR, Namely, Personio, Gusto, HiBob, Dayforce, Paylocity and Elmo. Fourteen more have a guide for a technical link called an API. Setup of the third way, a file transfer called SFTP, will likely need your IT team. The API only sends data out, and a developer on your side must run it. Historical Uploads bring past review data in from other platforms.
Staff can send and receive feedback inside Slack or Microsoft Teams. You can install one of them, not both. A link to Pave sends Perform data into pay reviews. It needs a Pave subscription bought from Pave. Claude or ChatGPT can also connect to your Culture Amp data. An admin can turn this off for the whole organisation. It costs nothing extra today and follows each user’s access rights. The Performance part of this link is not available yet. When it arrives, it reads past feedback only and leaves out active reviews. Every subscription can set up single sign-on, so staff log in with the company login.
What it does well
Calibration can draw on up to three past rounds
A calibration view is the screen where HR and managers compare and adjust ratings before they are final. It can bring in up to three past rounds as reference. Chosen reviewers can give early feedback on ratings before the meeting starts. If you hold the meeting in another tool, an admin can import the rating changes afterwards.
One round can run in more than 100 languages
A review round runs in one default language plus more than 100 others. Each comes with automatic translation. Culture Amp recommends a four-point rating scale for most companies. You can map each rating choice to one of four standard performance groups.
You pick the data region, and outside AI companies may not train on your data
You pick the United States, the European Union or Australia when you sign. The region then stays fixed. Coaching runs mainly on Anthropic’s Claude. Google’s Gemini covers some other uses. Culture Amp bars both companies, by contract, from training on your data. Culture Amp never uses data that identifies you to train any AI model. Voice chat recordings are not stored or used for training. Culture Amp holds ISO 42001, a standard for managing AI.
AI output is marked, and new AI features come with notice
Perform marks where AI is used with a sparkle icon and notes in the product. Culture Amp promises advance notice before any major new AI feature arrives.
Who has used it, and at what size
Wave, with 359 full-time employees
Wave reports that 100% of employees now complete reviews. Completion was 30% to 50% before. Wave also reports that finishing a round now takes two days instead of 30.
Brownes Dairy, with 250 full-time employees
Brownes Dairy added Perform in 2022. Its workforce runs from corporate staff to the warehouse, and it used Perform across office-based teams. It reports saving two days a week on performance reviews.
Tonkin + Taylor, with 1,400 employees
Tonkin + Taylor reports 88% participation in its review round. Belief that performance is judged fairly rose by 8 points. Culture Amp puts the rise down to calibration.
Culture Amp sells three tiers by company size
Culture Amp has one tier under 200 employees, one for 200 to 999 and one for 1,000 or more. The middle tier includes an expert who manages the implementation project. The 1,000-plus tier includes manager and executive training, one-on-one coaching and group coaching. It also includes a results call with a Culture Amp researcher and a review before launch.
Where it stops, what its AI can see and how the company is doing
You cannot run Perform with all AI switched off
Customers cannot opt out of Culture Amp’s AI features. AI is a core part of the platform. An admin can switch AI Coach off for everyone or for single users. Suggest Improvements and Highlights and Opportunities switch off together for the whole account. The tool that sorts comments by topic and by positive or negative tone cannot be switched off. AI Coach can still read Highlights and Opportunities data in a chat when a round’s AI setting is off. It can summarise that data there. You cannot opt out of data with names removed being used to train Culture Amp’s own AI. Culture Amp is not building its own models now.
A manager’s summary can quote feedback the employee never saw
Highlights and Opportunities can pull an excerpt from private peer feedback, feedback about managers or feedback given at any time. The employee has not seen that feedback. Employees cannot see their own summary. Culture Amp advises managers to read the original feedback before acting on a summary. Decide how your managers will do that.
Suggest Improvements cannot be switched on for one round
An admin turns it on for the whole account. It then applies to every review round and probation review. It is off by default. Turning it on also turns on Highlights and Opportunities. Turning it off removes both.
AI Coach is on for everyone unless an admin changes it
You can limit it to a pilot group of up to 200 users. You cannot limit it by demographic group. Culture Amp offers no test account for any AI Coach feature. AI Coach works only inside Culture Amp, so it connects to no outside tool. You cannot add your own policies or content to it. In Performance it does not read goals or 1-on-1s, and chats have no export feature yet. Voice mode is not yet fully released and runs on desktop only.
Culture Amp keeps data with names removed and sends your text as written
Culture Amp may use data with names removed to improve its platform and to build benchmarks. Your text goes to the AI as written, and you cannot set filters to hide personal details. Culture Amp aims to process data in your chosen region. Some data may cross borders briefly during processing.
Your company answers for what the AI writes
Culture Amp does not promise AI output is accurate, complete or suitable for a purpose. Anyone who uses its output must use their own judgement first. Your company is responsible for decisions made with it. Culture Amp bars use of its AI to automate employment decisions without a human check. AI Coach is not built for misconduct, legal issues, terminations or mental health concerns.
Features not yet fully released can change or vanish
Culture Amp may change, suspend or withdraw any feature that is not yet fully released at any time. Voice mode in AI Coach is one such feature today.
Culture Amp has cut jobs, changed chief executive and reported losses
Culture Amp renews the contract for 12 months at a time. Ending it needs 90 days’ notice by default. So the supplier’s health affects you for the whole term. Culture Amp has cut jobs three times since 2023. It cut 90 roles in 2023, 60 in November 2025 and 70 in 2026. The 2026 cut was about 9% of staff. Capital Brief reported that the 2025 cuts were framed as a move toward AI products. Co-founder Didier Elzinga stepped down as chief executive. Caroline Rawlinson took the role in January. Startup Daily reported that investor Blackbird cut Culture Amp’s valuation by 23.5%. It also reported losses of A$91.5 million across the 2024 and 2025 financial years. Revenue growth slowed from 32% in the 2023 financial year to 10.8% in the 2025 financial year.
What it costs, how the contract runs and how you leave
Perform has its own Request a quote button. Culture Amp prices Perform by quote. Pricing depends on headcount, the products you choose and the service tier. Culture Amp bills every product yearly. Fees follow the number of users in the tier on your order form. If users pass the tier, Culture Amp may charge extra for the rest of the term. It may work the extra fee out in proportion to the time left, or at the higher tier’s price. You can also buy Perform alone, as a Perform Only plan. AI Coach is in every plan. API access costs nothing extra.
Culture Amp renews the contract on its own for 12 months at a time. To stop it, you must give written notice. That notice must arrive at least 90 days before the term ends, unless the order form sets another period. Culture Amp invoices in advance, and you pay within 30 days. Each side’s liability is capped at the fees for the 12 months before the claim. For a breach of the data processing terms, Culture Amp’s cap is five times those fees. Delaware law governs, with Delaware courts, when your main office is in the United States or Canada. Suppose Culture Amp cuts what the service does in a big way. If it does not fix this within a reasonable time after notice, you may end the affected services.
After the contract ends, you have 30 days to export data using the product’s own functions. Culture Amp may then delete it. Culture Amp offers no bulk export of an account and no one-off export on request. You export one feature at a time. You can request an export of your people’s personal data during the term or after it ends. Culture Amp will help without unnecessary delay, with some exceptions. 1-on-1s and some feedback given at any time are visible only to the individual user. Each person exports those by hand. Moving data to another company may need a signed transfer agreement. Most transfers finish within a week once approvals are in place. Some admins have limited rights, and they can export only the staff in their assigned group.
You could also run review steps with agents built on your own systems. We have mapped what that looks like. The HR Agent Map
Nine questions to put to Culture Amp
- What is the price for our headcount, which tier are we in, and what do extra users cost? Good answer. A price for our tier in the order form, and the rate for users above it.
- What happens to our fee if headcount falls during the term? Good answer. A written rule in the order form on whether the fee stays or drops.
- Can Highlights and Opportunities be turned on without Suggest Improvements? Good answer. Yes, as its own setting, or a written explanation of who sees the summary and the feedback behind it.
- Which AI features stay on if we switch off every setting we can, and what data do they read? Good answer. A written list of each feature that stays on and the data it reads.
- How do we test our AI settings before every manager gets them, with no test account? Good answer. A pilot group of up to 200 users, plus a written test plan from your team.
- Which countries and companies process our text when it leaves our chosen region? Good answer. A named list of countries and providers, and what each one sees.
- Will you remove the right to use our data with names removed to improve your platform? Good answer. Yes, and it is in the order form.
- How do we get ratings, comments and 1-on-1 notes out before the contract ends? Good answer. A list of every export, who runs each one and how long it takes, in writing.
- Can we cancel on less than 90 days’ notice, and who is our named support contact? Good answer. A shorter notice period and a named contact with response times in the contract.
Alternatives to Culture Amp
Alternatives to Perform are Lattice, Leapsome, 15Five, PerformYard and Betterworks. You can also add Risely’s Merlin for review writing, or buy nothing.
The five review products below each publish a list price, and Culture Amp gives a quote. Each one runs review rounds, so you can set it beside Perform.
Lattice
Lattice prices its Performance product at $10 per user per month, with a minimum annual agreement of $4,000. Its AI assistant comes with every base product. Review drafts built from evidence come with every Performance subscription at no extra cost.
Leapsome
Leapsome prices Performance Reviews at EUR 7 per employee per month. Its HR platform is always part of the plan, so you cannot buy one product alone. Its team puts exact figures in the quote, and discounts depend on the products and headcount.
15Five
15Five prices Perform at $11 per user per month, billed annually. AI-Assisted Reviews comes with the Total Platform and Perform and Goals packages. Kona Coach, its AI coach for managers, is an add-on at $19 per manager per month.
PerformYard
PerformYard costs $5 to $15 per person per month, billed annually, and the price varies with headcount and products. Links to your main HR system and company sign-in come with every plan. It charges nothing extra for onboarding or training.
Betterworks
Betterworks prices its Performance package at $8 per user per month. Betterworks adds the most value for organisations of over 500 employees. Implementation is a one-time cost on top. The $8 package includes AI help so managers never start from a blank text box.
Risely’s Merlin is an AI coach for managers. It helps them draft review feedback based on their company’s standards and guidelines. A manager can bring feedback already drafted, and Merlin coaches them on bringing it into line. An admin sets those standards up in Risely. Merlin also teaches good habits for giving constructive feedback. The manager still writes the feedback and chooses the rating. Merlin coaches the wording. Merlin runs no review round, so it would sit beside a review product. Coaching on review feedback belongs to Risely’s enterprise plan. You cannot add your own policies to Culture Amp’s AI Coach.
Buying nothing costs no fee. Wave reports that review completion took two days after it adopted Perform, down from 30. Brownes Dairy reports saving two days per week with performance reviews. Weigh a quote against what that saved time would be worth to you. Start with the market guide for the wider picture. Use the comparison to see 33 products in one table.
