Performance management software for frontline and shift teams

Confirm sells its review product on a frontline track. Betterworks supports large frontline and hourly workforces in 29 languages. Other products reach staff through a phone app, a phone browser or Microsoft Teams. Before you buy, ask each vendor how a person with no work email signs in.

Start with

Confirm has a frontline track and a printed QR code. Betterworks supports large hourly workforces in 29 languages.

Phone browser

Trakstar, PerformYard, Primalogik, emPerform, Appraisd, Mesh and Teamflect run in a phone browser.

Check first

Tasks that need a desktop, sign-in without a work account, language fees and seats billed before login.

Four things change when staff do not work at a desk

How a person gets in from a phone is the first difference. Confirm puts a printed QR code on site. Staff scan it to give feedback and recognition on a phone. To finish a review on a phone, BambooHR employees and managers use its app. SAP SuccessFactors has selected review features in its mobile app. Mesh reviewers fill in forms in a phone browser or the Teams app. Quantum Workplace, Synergita and PeopleFluent’s Reflektive also have a phone app. Trakstar, PerformYard, Primalogik, emPerform, Appraisd and Teamflect run in a phone browser. Teamflect also works in the Microsoft Teams app.

Language support is the second. SAP SuccessFactors runs in 46 languages. Quantum Workplace runs in 40 or more. Betterworks runs in 29. Culture Amp runs one review round in more than 100 extra languages, with automatic translation. Workleap review questions can go out in every language a team speaks. Its AI can translate a whole review cycle into its other supported language. Ask which language that is. ADP Workforce Now offers US English, Canadian French and Spanish.

Price is the third. Confirm prices its frontline track per user per year. The other products charge per person per month, charge a package fee or publish no price.

Staff turnover is the fourth. Teamflect deletes departed users on its own once it is linked to your staff directory. Primalogik lets you disable former employees’ accounts at no charge.

Which products reach a phone, and how each one fits frontline teams

Two products are sold for frontline workforces

Confirm sells Perform on a frontline track and a scale-up track. Its AI agents support site managers, HR business partners and operations leaders. Betterworks supports large frontline and hourly workforces in 29 languages. Its Engage survey product goes out by email, text message or a kiosk, which is a shared screen at work. Engage comes in the Enterprise package. Ask both to show a full review on a phone.

Other products, and the customers who run them on site

BambooHR customer HTeaO reports that real-time feedback has helped people from hourly roles up to corporate staff. PerformYard customer Wildfire Defense Systems has 150 to 500 employees, and half are seasonal field firefighters. Empxtrack sells to healthcare, manufacturing, retail and hospitality firms, and others.

Ask these before you shortlist them

15Five, ClearCompany, Klaar, Lattice, Leapsome, Peoplebox, PerformSpark and Profit.co sell performance reviews too. So do Rippling, TalentGuard, Topicflow, Windmill, Workday, Workleap and Effy AI.

Klaar and Peoplebox each have a Microsoft Teams app. Ask each one whether a person can finish a review on a phone, and in which languages.

What these prices come to for 5,000 people

Confirm’s frontline Perform track starts from $13 (£10) a user a year. The price is for a company of 5,000 people. Its scale-up track starts from $8 (£7) a user a month, billed annually, for a company of 200.

This is what other prices come to for 5,000 people. It assumes every person has a seat and you pay for twelve months.

  • Confirm frontline, from $13 a user a year, comes to $65,000 or more.
  • Mesh Foundations, $4 a person a month, comes to $240,000.
  • PerformYard, $5 to $15 a person a month, comes to $300,000 to $900,000.
  • Betterworks Performance, $8 a user a month, comes to $480,000.
  • Lattice Performance, $10 a seat a month, comes to $600,000.

These plans cover different features. Mesh sells volume packages above 100 people. PerformYard offers volume pricing to larger organisations. Betterworks tailors its price to workforce size. Ask each vendor to quote the same 5,000 people.

Workleap’s Standard plan starts at $4,999, plus $32 a month for each manager, billed yearly. Organisations of more than 250 employees get a custom Enterprise price. Ask whether staff who are not managers cost extra.

For a workforce that changes through the year, seat rules matter as much as the price. Teamflect sells licences only for people who use it. On annual plans the licence count cannot go down until the agreement ends. Primalogik counts 360 raters and the people being reviewed as users. It lets you disable former employees’ accounts at no charge, and their data stays accessible.

Four places a review can stop for staff without a desk

Some tasks need a desktop

Mesh needs its full desktop version for team-wide and company-wide tasks. Its AI-written summary for managers in a review is not available on mobile. Engagedly’s AI assistant, Marissa, is not in the mobile app. Appraisd’s call recording does not work on mobile. Ask for a phone demo of every task your managers do in the tool.

Sign-in may need a work account

Topicflow signs people in only with a Google or Microsoft account. Effy AI offers a magic link (a sign-in link sent by email), or Google, Slack or Microsoft sign-in. PerformYard signs people in by default with email and password, or with Google or Office 365 single sign-on. That is one login for many tools. Most other single sign-on providers can also be set up. Culture Amp and Quantum Workplace send reminders in Slack or Teams. A reminder there reaches only staff who have an account in that tool. Ask how someone with no work email or chat account gets in.

Languages can cost extra

Appraisd charges £2,000 to start each language other than English. In euros, each language costs €2,300 to set up and €650 a year. It does not support right-to-left languages such as Arabic and Hebrew. PeopleFluent’s Reflektive charges extra for localisation. That is its word for language support. ADP Workforce Now offers US English, Canadian French and Spanish.

Seats can be billed before anyone logs in

Windmill counts an invited employee as a seat even if they have not logged in. Archiving a person removes the seat from future invoices, with no refund mid-cycle. Lattice counts both active and invited users in its seat total. If staff come and go during the year, ask how invites and removals are billed.
