Price

emPerform sells by custom quote. One yearly fee covers all features. In a 2018 blog post, emPerform put it at under $3 per user per month.

It runs reviews, then feeds the score into pay planning

emPerform runs annual, 30, 60 and 90 day and anniversary reviews. Your team builds the review forms. A form can be a self-assessment, a project review or a performance improvement plan (PIP). A PIP is a written plan that sets targets and a deadline for an employee whose work falls short.

Ratings can be text or numbers. You can weight each section, and the form adds up a performance score. You can also run a review with no ratings, or with “ghost ratings”. Ask emPerform to explain that second option.

Users can start a review at any time from a library of forms. Managers can open feedback logs from inside a review. They can attach records to support a rating. emPerform calls its feedback and journaling tool “tag”. Tag also records check-ins and 1:1 meetings. A 1:1 is a regular meeting between a manager and one team member.

Goal management covers SMART goals, performance objectives and development plans. A competency library comes with the product, and you can import your own.

360 reviews are included. A 360 review collects opinions about one employee from different people around them. When anonymity is on, the report hides reviewer labels. emPerform uses 360 feedback to reduce bias in reviews.

The pay planning tool takes the final performance score as its input. It works out pay recommendations and displays budgets. You set budgets, groups, ranges and approval steps. A chart compares each team’s pay with its scores. Release 5.5 added a Pay Equity Analysis to that chart.

The succession tool places employees on a nine-box grid. Each person lands in one of nine boxes, based on how well they perform and how far they may grow. It draws on past reviews, 360 ratings and surveys. Succession reports also cover rating calibration. In calibration, leaders compare ratings across teams and adjust any that are out of line. Surveys are included too.

Almost 100 ready-made reports come with the product, plus reports you build yourself at any time. Release 5.5 added visual displays that track performance measures over time.

emPerform can connect to the system that holds your employee data. That can be a main HR system, a business system or payroll. It can also take data from workforce management systems. You can import employee data from Excel. Staff can sign in with the company’s own login, including Azure and Okta.

You choose where it runs, and a typical start takes 3 to 7 days of your team’s time

Support and every feature sit inside the annual fee

Reviews, 360 feedback, pay planning, succession and surveys are all in the same subscription. There are no separate add-on products to buy. Technical and business support is also part of the annual fee.

Pay planning starts from the review score

The pay planning tool takes the final performance score as its input. That score comes from the weights and measures you set on the review form. The tool then works out pay recommendations and displays budgets. You do not copy scores into a second tool.

You choose where it runs and you own the data

emPerform can host the software for you. You can also run it on your own servers, and you can switch between the two at any point. When emPerform hosts it, emPerform handles maintenance and updates. You keep ownership of your data. All data and reports export to several formats.

A typical start takes 3 to 7 days of your team’s time

A typical start needs 3 to 7 days from your team. emPerform asks for at least two administrators at the training. The software also works in tablet and phone browsers and supports up to 10 languages.

Companies with 130 to 34,000 staff use it

Customers from 130 to 34,000 staff

Pennichuck Water Works has over 130 staff. First Harrison Bank has over 235. C&K Management has over 350 and is based in Hyderabad, India. Dolese Bros. Co. has over 950 across Oklahoma. NCSA has more than 1,000. RGIS has over 34,000 staff in over 40 countries.

Two customers report time saved on admin and pay

Connexus Energy reports more than 15 hours saved on its merit increase process with the pay planning tool. First Harrison Bank reports that HR administrative time fell by 50% or more. The bank reports emPerform gives its managers pay recommendations based on the rating and the position in the salary grade.

Customers report less time spent on reviews

Broad Reach Healthcare supervisors report up to a 50% decrease in workload. United Animal Health reports more than 50% less time on performance management tasks. Graywood Developments estimates about 20 hours a year saved.

emPerform reports on-time reviews rising from 46% to 100%

It says clients typically make that jump. That figure is emPerform’s own. Ask for a customer who tracks it.

Size, hourly work and support hours need answers before you sign

emPerform gives three different size ranges

Its FAQ puts the ideal company size at 150 to 3,000 employees. Its feedback feature page gives 50 to 3,000. Its customers page uses 150 employees or 3,000. Ask which range covers your company.

Custom work is sold as service hours

Its pricing page promises no add-on products and no upsells. Its FAQ sells custom reports, consulting, extra training and custom integration as service hours. Ask which of your needs count as service hours before you sign.

Live support follows Eastern Time

Live support runs from 9am to 5pm Eastern Time. It stops on holidays set by Canadian law. Check those hours against your own working day.

Ask what sits behind the assistant tools

emPerform offers comment and rating assistant tools for managers. Its Writing Assistant gives an overview of the behaviours behind each competency or goal. It also suggests comments. A competency is one skill or behaviour that a role calls for. Ask whether these tools use an AI model, and where your review text goes.

Two partner links date from 2015

emPerform and Synerion, a workforce management vendor, announced data syncing in June 2015. iCIMS has been a partner since 2015. Ask for a current customer on each link.

Ask for the security reports

emPerform complies with SSAE 16, SOC I and SOC II. These are security audit standards. It encrypts data in transit and at rest. Ask for the latest audit reports and their dates. Ask who handles maintenance when you run the software on your own servers.

emPerform prices each contract by quote

emPerform sells by custom quote. It charges one annual subscription fee for all features. In a blog post of October 2018, emPerform put a subscription at under $3 per user per month. At that rate, 100 employees cost under $3,600 a year. Treat that figure as an old reference point and get a current quote.

emPerform sells custom reports and consulting as service hours. It sells extra training and custom integration the same way. Support comes with the subscription.

You choose where the software runs. emPerform can host it, or you can run it on your own servers. You can switch between the two at any point. Ask whether the fee differs between the two.

You keep ownership of your data. You can export all data and reports to several formats. emPerform sets out how long it keeps data in its privacy policy. Ask for the export formats and the deletion date in the contract.

Get the contract length, the renewal terms, any limit on price rises and the uptime promise in writing.

You could also run review steps with agents built on your own systems. We have mapped what that looks like. The HR Agent Map

What to ask emPerform before you sign

  1. What yearly fee will you quote for our headcount, with every feature switched on? Good answer: A written fee for the full term, with a cap on any rise at renewal.
  2. Which of our needs count as service hours, and what is the hourly rate? Good answer: A list of the work in hours, with the rate written into the contract.
  3. Your materials give 150 to 3,000 employees and 50 to 3,000. Which range covers us? Good answer: A named customer of our size, in our country, that has run a full year.
  4. Which HR, payroll and workforce management systems do you link to today, and who builds each link? Good answer: A named list, a customer running each link, and the build cost in the quote.
  5. Can we see the SSAE 16 and SOC reports? Good answer: Current reports that we can read before we sign.
  6. If we run it on our own servers, who handles maintenance and updates? Good answer: A written split of duties, and how long you support each version.
  7. What does the “ghost ratings” option do, and can you show the Writing Assistant working inside a review form? Good answer: A live demo, the AI model if there is one, and where our review text is stored.
  8. What support do we get outside 9am to 5pm Eastern Time? Good answer: Support hours for our time zone, or a written response time.
  9. How do we get all our data out when the contract ends, and when do you delete it? Good answer: A list of file formats and a deletion date written into the contract.

Alternatives to emPerform

Five products do a similar job to emPerform. They are PerformYard, Trakstar, Appraisd (now Talos Perform), SAP SuccessFactors and Empxtrack.

PerformYard publishes $5 to $15 per person per month. The price varies with headcount and the products you choose. The Talent Development plan covers pay, coaching, competencies and succession planning. Contracts renew each year unless you give 60 days’ notice. The vendor may raise the price by up to 20% at renewal.

Trakstar sells by custom quote. Onboarding, set-up and training come with it. Its succession tool also uses a nine-box grid. That grid files each person in one of nine boxes by results and growth potential. Trakstar is part of Mitratech. Its fees are fixed for each contract year.

Appraisd is now called Talos Perform, and its two price pages differ. The Appraisd page sets a £3,600 yearly minimum for the first 50 employees. After that it charges £6 a month each for employees 51 to 100. The rate is £4 for 101 to 200 and £3 beyond 200. Each rate applies only to the employees in that band. The Talos Perform page gives prices from £95 per employee. It sets a minimum of £4,750 a year for up to 50 employees on a two-year contract, billed yearly. Ask which price list applies to a new contract today.

SAP SuccessFactors asks you to request a quote on its site. A reseller, NTT DATA Business Solutions, gives prices on the UK government’s G-Cloud catalogue. In January 2026 it priced Performance & Goals at £2.53 per user per month for up to 2,000 users. SAP’s Pay for Performance package, which adds compensation, costs £2.93 for the same band. Those prices exclude VAT, rise 3.3% each year and leave out support.

Empxtrack lets a company start with 5 appraisals free. It sells extra appraisals inside the application. It also sells software for managing pay that uses performance data. Empxtrack’s plan prices apply to a minimum of 1,000 employees. Ask Empxtrack which price applies to you.

Buying nothing is the last option. If your main HR system already runs reviews, ask its vendor what that covers before you buy a second product. You can read about the rest of the market in our guide to performance management software.
