Klaar drafts each review from the year’s work and the manager decides

Klaar Perform runs review rounds, goals, one-to-one meetings and calibration. Its AI assistant, Scout, writes the first draft of each review.

Is Klaar the right fit? The short answer

In one line

Klaar is review software with an AI assistant called Scout. Scout drafts reviews, flags ratings that do not match the evidence and writes up one-to-one meetings. The manager decides each review, and leaders make the calibration and talent calls.

Buy it if

You want an AI assistant to write the first draft of each review. You want every rating to arrive with evidence attached. You are happy for Klaar to read your work tools.

Do not buy it if

You need Career Tracks, Succession Planning or Leadership 360 today. Klaar marks all three as coming soon. You need a fixed price per person up front. Klaar’s price depends on company size, setup and add-ons.

Ask first

Which law governs our contract, and can it change? Under Klaar’s published terms, Indian law governs.

Price

Klaar quotes by company size, setup and add-ons. Scout AI comes inside the base Perform product.

From the first review draft to the pay recommendation

Each review round can be set up to match your process. You choose the sections, weights, rating scales and approval steps. Templates cover annual, mid-year and probation reviews at 30, 60 and 90 days.

Scout writes a first draft of each review from the year’s evidence. It reads goals, feedback, praise, one-to-one notes, recognition, earlier ratings and work in connected tools. The manager can edit, replace or reject the draft. The rating and the decision stay with the manager.

Calibration is a leadership check on ratings. Leaders line up the ratings from every manager so one team is not marked harder than another. Before that meeting, Scout flags ratings that do not match the evidence. It also flags patterns, such as one group getting lower ratings at similar goal attainment. Your company can set a target spread of ratings. Scout works out which ratings would have to move to reach it. Leaders decide whether each move is justified.

One-to-one meetings are captured and written up

Klaar captures one-to-one meetings online and in person with no bot and no setup. When a recorded meeting ends, Scout drafts notes, decisions and follow-ups for the manager to review. Everyone in the meeting knows Scout is present. Scout can be dropped at any time, and nothing in that window is captured.

Goals update from the work itself

Scout pulls goal progress from delivery tools, customer records, documents, calendars and conversations. Goals then update on their own. Managers see a live confidence score on each goal. You can import goals from your current system.

Klaar runs 360 feedback

In a 360 review, an employee’s colleagues each give feedback on that person’s work. Your company chooses who takes part. It also sets how anonymous and how visible the answers are. You can import past 360 rounds, ratings and comments.

Talent reviews and pay recommendations

In talent reviews, Scout flags people who may leave and stalled growth. It also flags gaps in the pool of people ready to step up. Leaders make the call. In the Reward add-on, Scout prepares pay recommendations. Each one comes with evidence, market data and a reason.

It reads your work tools and edits nothing in them

Your admin approves each connection, and no engineering work is needed. Klaar reads only what it needs. Removing a connection stops its access. Klaar connects to more than 80 other tools, including main HR systems, hiring systems and payroll. Workday is on its list of connected tools. Staff sign in with their company login, and accounts stay in step.

Klaar is based in San Francisco. Its $5 million Series A was led by Prime Venture Partners, and existing investor Shastra VC took part. The round came with an official US launch.

Results from three Klaar customers

Each of the three customer stories below belongs to the customer named with it. None is a promise for every Klaar buyer.

Zenwork has more than 200 employees. Its review completion moved from roughly 70% to more than 95%. Its managers saved more than 10 hours each during review cycles. Its manager-started one-to-one meetings rose 2.3 times. Its monthly goal updates rose from roughly 70% to 90%.

Armstrong Fluid Technology has more than 1,000 employees. Its managers also saved more than 10 hours each during a review cycle. Its review completion reached 94%. Its retention improved 11% year over year. Its monthly goal update rate reached 82%.

NewGlobe has nearly 1,000 people. Its review administration time fell by more than half.

Klaar puts the time managers spend writing reviews 80% lower. It puts feedback quality 40% better. Neither figure comes with a customer name. People at Upwork, Verisys, Cognitio Analytics, Deutsche Telekom Digital Labs and Team Dynamix have reviewed Klaar. Vidyard is a Klaar customer in North America.

Where Klaar is strong

Every rating arrives with the evidence behind it

A manager reading a Scout draft can see what supports each rating before changing it. In calibration, Scout keeps the reasoning behind each change attached. Klaar logs every calibration adjustment. Calibration information is visible only to the people your company chooses.

Most set-up is connecting existing tools

Most companies are up and running in four to six weeks. Most of the work is connecting existing tools, with no long project. Klaar works alongside an existing main HR system.

Your data does not train a model for anyone else

Data you put into Klaar does not train a model for another company. Klaar is independently audited for SOC 2 Type II. That is a check on controls that protect customer data. Its security practices are aligned to ISO 27001, an international standard.

Sharing with HR is off by default in one-to-one meetings

The employee can redact lines before they are saved. Skip-level managers, who sit one level above the line manager, cannot see raw notes. Only what the manager carries forward goes into a review.

Who should look at Klaar

You are moving off another review tool

Klaar can import goals and past 360 rounds. Customers have moved to Klaar from Lattice, Culture Amp, 15Five and Leapsome. They moved with notes, action items and history. Ask for a customer who moved from the tool you use today.

Your managers hold one-to-ones on Zoom, on Slack or in person

Klaar’s one-to-one capture works online and in person. Managers can lead one-to-ones from places that include Zoom and Slack. Klaar also brings one-to-one preparation and follow-up into Slack and Teams. Haven is a separate Klaar notetaker, free to the HR community, and it joins Zoom, Meet and Teams calls.

Your reviews run in more than one country

NewGlobe runs its reviews across eight countries in one Klaar system. Ask Klaar for a customer in the countries where you employ people.

You want evidence behind pay and promotion decisions

Klaar keeps goals, feedback and history in view for ratings, promotions, compensation and growth decisions.

Where Klaar stops

Three products are labelled coming soon

Career Tracks, Succession Planning and Leadership 360 are marked coming soon. Ask which of them you would use and when each goes on sale.

One-to-one meetings can feed people decisions

What happens in the year can inform coaching, reviews and other people decisions in Klaar. Tell managers and staff this before the first recorded meeting. Scout also flags who may leave and suggests pay rises. Decide who sees those flags.

Haven, the separate notetaker, uses two outside AI companies

Haven uses Anthropic and OpenAI as sub-processors for its transcript analysis. A sub-processor is an outside company that handles data for the vendor. Haven is a separate product from Perform. Ask which outside companies Scout in Perform uses.

Under Klaar’s published terms, Indian law governs

Klaar Digital Solutions Private Limited is a private company registered in India. Under its terms, Indian law governs, with courts in Bengaluru. Under the same terms, disputes go to a sole arbitrator seated in Bengaluru. Klaar may use your company name and logo to identify you as a customer.

Under its terms, Klaar excludes liability for data lost through unauthorised use

Under Klaar’s terms, Klaar will not be liable for any loss of data or damage caused by unauthorised use. If you breach the terms, you cover the losses of Klaar and its related parties. Changes to the terms take effect as soon as they are posted.

What Klaar costs and what its published terms say

Klaar ties its price to your company size, your setup and the products you choose. Develop, Engage and Reward are add-ons on top of the base Perform product. Klaar scopes your needs first and keeps pricing transparent.

Under Klaar’s published terms, the subscription fee for the same users may vary with the length of the subscription. A price is valid only for its length and its number of users. Klaar is not liable to offer later subscriptions at the earlier price. The number of authorised users follows the users in the subscription or added to the user list.

Under the same terms, an auto-renewing subscription needs 30 days’ notice before renewal. You can cancel at any time, and the subscription runs to the end of the paid period. Under those terms, Klaar gives no refund for a partly used subscription.

Where no service level is defined, Klaar’s support team responds within 24 hours. Klaar keeps data for as long as necessary, by category of data.

You could also run review steps with agents built on your own systems. We have mapped what that looks like. The HR Agent Map

Alternatives to Klaar

Lattice, 15Five, Betterworks, Leapsome and PerformYard all run review rounds and put a price on their websites.

Lattice Performance costs $10 a month for each seat, with a $4,000 minimum a year. Its evidence-based review drafts come with every Performance subscription. Implementation of Performance costs nothing extra.

15Five Perform costs $11 per user per month, billed annually. Its AI drafts the written answers. The person writing the review picks every rating.
