ClearCompany Performance Management
ClearCompany sells review rounds, goals and one-to-one meetings next to its hiring and onboarding software. Its AI drafts reviews for managers. Under its AI terms, you are responsible for human oversight. Under the same terms, ClearCompany is not responsible for bias in its AI.
The short answer on ClearCompany
ClearCompany Performance Management runs review rounds, goals and one-to-one meetings. It sits next to ClearCompany’s hiring and onboarding software. An AI assistant drafts the reviews.
You want reviews, goals and one-to-ones from the company that sells your hiring or onboarding software. You want to start with one stage and add others later. You run HR with a small team.
You have not seen the price per employee, the renewal rate and the data export terms in writing. Your legal team will not accept AI terms that leave human oversight and bias with you.
Ask for the price per employee in writing. ClearCare, ClearCompany’s package of implementation and other help, is priced on request.
What ClearCompany does in a review round
A review round can include self-reviews, manager reviews and feedback from peers. It can also include 360-degree feedback. That is feedback from the people around someone at work, such as their manager, peers and team. Rounds can be annual, twice a year, quarterly or for new hires. Your team starts a round from a template. You can change the template by role or team. ClearCompany supports many types of rating scale.
ClearCompany includes calibration. Leaders review ratings and line them up across teams. Each person’s goals link to team and company priorities. The product supports regular one-to-one meetings. Charts show ratings, goal progress and how many people have finished their reviews. Employees and managers can add their input from anywhere. Recognition can be shared through Slack.
Review Agent is an AI assistant that drafts reviews inside the review form. It builds each draft from goals, one-to-one notes and shoutouts, which are thank-you messages between colleagues. Performance Admin Agent handles the admin behind a review round. It checks a round before launch, tracks who has taken part and moves reviews to new people in bulk. Every important agent step waits for a person to confirm it. An agent asks for clear confirmation before it submits a review. ClearCompany does not recommend writing review feedback entirely with AI.
You can also build your own AI assistants in Agent Studio. Templates include leadership coaching. Its other AI features include summaries of conversations and meetings. In People Analytics you can ask the AI questions about your workforce data in plain language.
ClearCompany links to payroll and HR systems. The ADP link works both ways and covers four ADP products. The Paylocity link works both ways. The UKG link works both ways with UKG Ready and UKG Pro. The PrismHR link works both ways. ClearCompany also connects with Paychex Flex Payroll and HR Solutions. BambooHR is in its integration library. Staff can sign in with your company’s existing login, if it has one. This works through Okta, OneLogin, Azure AD, Ping Identity or similar services.
Other sellers run reviews differently. The performance management software guide explains which kind of tool suits which job.
Where ClearCompany does well
Reviews, goals and one-to-ones in one product
ClearCompany covers several review formats, round lengths and a calibration step. Goals link to team and company priorities. A team can run reviews, goals and one-to-ones from the same product. ClearCompany suggests you start with the stage that matters most and add others later.
A person confirms the AI’s important steps
Every important agent step waits for a person to confirm it. Using the AI features is voluntary and optional, and you can stop at any time. ClearCompany will not use what you enter or what the AI returns to train AI models.
Two-way links to common payroll and HR systems
ClearCompany’s links to ADP, Paylocity, UKG and PrismHR move data in both directions. It also connects with Paychex, and BambooHR is in its integration library. Ask which of your own systems are on this list.
A yearly security audit and company login
ClearCompany holds the SOC 2 Type II certificate. That is an independent audit of its security controls. ClearCompany is audited every year. Staff can sign in with your company’s existing login, if it has one.
Who uses ClearCompany for reviews
The PCA Group runs standard and 360-degree rounds
The PCA Group has close to 1,500 people. It ran standard and 360-degree review rounds. ClearCompany runs HR for its 1,000 or more US employees with three full-time HR staff.
A two-person HR team chose it for hiring first
The Housing Authority of Snohomish County’s HR team is two people. It chose ClearCompany for hiring software that would include performance management. The performance tools gave it standard and 360-degree reviews.
3LS Solutions writes an evaluation for each role
3LS Solutions uses ClearCompany to write evaluations. It writes one for each position.
Its investor says it serves mid-sized businesses
Gemspring Capital invested in ClearCompany in September 2023. It says ClearCompany provides recruiting, onboarding and performance management for mid-sized businesses.
Where ClearCompany leaves the work with you
Most of the limits sit in ClearCompany’s AI terms. Under them, human oversight and bias stay with you.
You are responsible for AI policy and human oversight
Under its AI terms, you are responsible for AI policies, transparency, consents and human oversight. That includes agent features that may act on their own, even on hiring decisions. ClearCompany bars you from basing a decision only on the AI or its output. That covers any decision with legal or similar weight, including decisions about employment. If an AI draft feeds a pay or promotion decision, a person must make the final call.
Under its AI terms, bias is not ClearCompany’s responsibility
Under its AI terms, ClearCompany is not responsible for bias or a lack of fairness in its AI. Nor is it responsible for the limits of its algorithms or data. It bars you from using the AI to make anyone think a person alone wrote its output.
Some agent actions may not be reversible
ClearCompany warns that some actions of an agent may be irreversible. ClearCompany bars you from putting protected health data, government ID numbers or bank data into the AI features.
ClearCompany can change or switch off the AI without notice
ClearCompany can change, suspend or stop an AI feature, or limit your access to it. It can do this at its own choice, without notice. A feature you rely on can change or go away.
Your data runs through outside AI providers
ClearCompany uses OpenAI and Recall.ai, among others, as AI providers. ClearCompany may process your data. It may do so inside setups that ClearCompany manages on those providers’ systems. It does this to run the AI features and to produce anonymous combined data, and for no other purpose. ClearCompany may keep what you enter and what the AI returns to detect abuse and malfunctions. It may keep what you enter, in anonymised form, to improve the AI features.
Anonymous combined data has wider uses
Inside the company, ClearCompany may use your data to run the service. It may also use it to produce anonymous combined data. It may use that anonymous data freely for its business, including to improve and market its products.
Your data is stored in the United States
ClearCompany stores its data within the U.S., and the platform is hosted on Amazon Web Services. For personal data that moves from the EU, UK and Switzerland, ClearCompany relies on Standard Contractual Clauses. These are standard EU contract terms for sending personal data abroad. Ask for a copy of them.
If you have staff in the EU, check the EU AI Act. Under the Act, AI that monitors or evaluates the performance of people at work is high-risk. An exemption can apply under Article 6(3) to a system that only prepares the ground for a decision. It must not shape the outcome in a real way. A system that profiles people never gets the exemption. A review-drafting assistant may fall on either side of that line. Ask ClearCompany whether it regards Review Agent as high-risk under the Act. Under the 2026 amendment those rules apply from 2 December 2027. Employers must tell workers and their representatives before they use a high-risk system.
What ClearCompany costs and what you sign up to
ClearCompany suggests you start with the stage that matters most and add hiring, onboarding and other stages later. ClearGrow bundles performance, engagement, learning and pay. ClearCare is a package of implementation and other help, priced on request. Ask for the price per employee for performance management in writing. Your contract is with ClearCompany, LLC, which does business as ClearCo.
ClearCompany invoices setup fees plus the first annual payment on the day the subscription starts. Implementation starts when it receives payment of the first invoice. Fees are non-refundable. Unless you agree otherwise on the order form, invoices are payable in U.S. dollars within 30 days.
Under ClearCompany’s terms, order forms renew automatically for periods as long as the first term. The price is ClearCompany’s standard rate at that time, unless you agree otherwise. A party that does not want to renew must give written notice at least 90 days before the term ends. ClearCompany may charge for use above the number of employees or users on your order form. It bills that after each quarter ends. The rate is its rate at that time per employee or per active user, unless you agree other pricing.
ClearCompany’s total liability to you is capped at what you paid in the twelve months before the claim. It may delete your data when an account is 90 days or more behind on payment. After the contract ends, it need not keep your data usable beyond six months if no export request has arrived.
You could also run review steps with agents built on your own systems. We have mapped what that looks like. The HR Agent Map
What to ask ClearCompany before you sign
- What is the price per employee for performance management at our head count, with every add-on, in writing? A good answer is one figure on the order form, with setup fees and ClearCare shown.
- Is Review Agent included in that price? A good answer is a yes or no in writing, with any extra fee named.
- What rate applies at renewal, and can we cap the rise? A good answer is a written cap, rather than whatever list price applies at the time.
- If our head count grows past the order form, what rate do we pay? A good answer is the rate on our own order form.
- How do we export all our review data, and in what file format? A good answer is a named format and an export window longer than six months, set out in the contract.
- Can we opt out of ClearCompany keeping our input in anonymised form to improve its AI? A good answer is a written opt-out in the order form.
- What notice do you give before you change or stop an AI feature we use? A good answer is a notice period in writing, and a lower fee if a feature we pay for goes.
- Is Agent Studio live, and is it in our plan? A good answer is a live date, and the price if it is not in our plan.
- Does single sign-on work with the login system our company uses? A good answer is a written yes that names our login provider.
- Which AI providers handle our data, and in which countries? A good answer is a named country for each provider, and the Standard Contractual Clauses for any staff in Europe.
- Which of our payroll and HR systems does the link cover, and which way does data move? A good answer is our named systems, the direction of data and how often it updates.
- When does implementation start, and when does our first review round go live? A good answer is a dated plan that starts at signing.
Alternatives to ClearCompany
PerformYard, 15Five, Culture Amp, Betterworks and Lattice sell performance management as products of their own. PerformYard costs $5 to $15 per person per month. Links to your HR system and company login are in every PerformYard plan. 15Five Perform costs $11 per user per month, billed annually. Lattice Performance costs $10 per seat per month, with a $4,000 minimum annual agreement. Betterworks Performance costs $8 per user per month. Betterworks is designed for mid-sized and large organisations.
Culture Amp prices by number of employees, product and service tier. You request a quote for Perform separately. Culture Amp has a service tier for companies of 200 to 999 employees.
BambooHR and Rippling sell reviews inside an HR system. BambooHR’s Pro plan includes 360 review cycles and one-to-ones. The Pro plan costs $17 per employee per month. Rippling sells performance management on a platform that also holds HR and payroll. You can buy each Rippling product alone, but only next to its core platform. Rippling gives a custom quote.
The last option is to buy nothing this year. ClearCompany invoices setup fees plus the first annual payment on day one. First work out what one review round costs without new software. Then set it against that first invoice, which covers setup plus a full year.
The table of all 33 products sets out each price, renewal term and data export side by side.
