AI interview agents for technical hiring

These four started as testing tools, not interview tools

CodeSignal and HackerRank Chakra both began as coding-test tools and added an interview later. Glider AI calls itself a skills validation platform. Talview built exam-integrity checks before it built its interviewer, Ivy. The market’s other twelve sellers started as interview tools.

CodeSignal, HackerRank and Glider AI check faces or voices during the interview. Talview’s check sits in a separate product.

Each tool sends a report to the recruiter after each interview. Each contract sets which roles it covers.

None of these four sells the interview by itself. CodeSignal's interviewer draws from the same yearly total as its coding tests. If you have a CodeSignal account, you add the interview to it. HackerRank Chakra needs its own account. HackerRank's support team has to turn it on separately from your existing plan. Glider AI sells its interviewer as one of four formats inside a single Interview Suite. Talview's Ivy sits beside two separate products from the same company. One checks identity, and one watches candidates during exams.

You can find CodeSignal's price before you talk to anyone. Its Build plan costs $79 a month, billed yearly, and covers engineering, design and product roles. CodeSignal points that plan at a company under 100 people. A company with a few hundred people moves to Grow, billed yearly, for the same three roles. Grow costs $479 a month. Going over your plan costs $20 an interview. A company that needs Pro gets no public price at all. Pro is the only plan that links to Workday, iCIMS or Oracle.

The other three tell you how they charge, not how much. HackerRank Chakra charges per interview, at a lower rate once your volume grows. Glider AI's pricing page only offers to book a demo. Talview's form states a minimum. It usually wants about 150 to 200 interviews committed before it starts.

Take a count of next quarter's technical interviews to every call. Get each rate in writing, at your pilot's size and at a full year's size.

What should you ask before you hire with these four?

Two questions for each vendor, with the answer worth hearing.

1. CodeSignal: Does your Suspicion Score run on the interview, or only on the coding test? Good answer: A written yes for the interview, not only the test.
2. CodeSignal: Which roles does our order form name under your contract’s "software developers" wording? Good answer: Every technical role we hire for, listed by name.
3. HackerRank Chakra: Is Desktop App Mode switched on by default, or does a candidate have to turn it on? Good answer: On by default for every interview we send.
4. HackerRank Chakra: Is the recording in our report a video file or an audio file? How long do you keep it? Good answer: A video file, kept for a stated number of days.
5. Glider AI: What do you check for when a candidate reads answers an AI wrote somewhere else? Good answer: A named check, not only a face and a tab-switch flag.
6. Glider AI: Who reviews a flagged interview before it reaches our recruiter? Good answer: A named person, on a stated turnaround.
7. Talview Ivy: Does the deepfake and voice check run inside Ivy itself, or only in a separate product? Good answer: Written confirmation it runs inside Ivy itself.
8. Talview Ivy: Will our engineering hiring alone reach your 150 to 200 interview minimum? Good answer: A yes, or a smaller minimum in writing.

Buy nothing if you hire only a few engineers a year

If you hire only a handful of engineers a year, a coding test can still do the screening. Even CodeSignal's cheapest plan costs $79 a month, billed yearly. None of these four is a purchase this volume needs yet.
