HireVue
HireVue AI Interviewer is a voice interview inside HireVue’s hiring platform. It runs inside Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, Oracle, iCIMS or Greenhouse. A candidate answers questions out loud. The software scores each answer against a guide your team writes. Your recruiter gets the score and decides what happens next. HireVue’s published bias audit covers an older product, not this interviewer. HireVue does not publish a price for it.
A voice interviewer inside HireVue’s hiring platform. It scores each answer and hands the result to your recruiter.
You hire in the thousands. Your recruiters already work in Workday, SAP SuccessFactors or Oracle. You run a full procurement process before you buy software. You would rather buy one supplier for screening, assessment and interviewing than buy the best interviewer alone.
You want a price you can see before a sales call. You need an outside bias audit of this interviewer itself, not of an older product. Your lawyers will not let outside AI companies handle your candidates’ voices.
HireVue publishes no price for the interviewer or the platform it sits inside. The only public figures come from three US federal contracts for HireVue’s older interviewing platform. Each contract runs between $2.19 million and $2.80 million.
It scores the interview and hands the file to a recruiter
HireVue AI Interviewer is HireVue’s newest product. It launched in June 2026. It is built on technology HireVue bought from Hireguide in March 2026.
A candidate can open it at any hour. It asks a question, listens to the answer, and asks a follow-up based on what it just heard. It does not read down a fixed list. HireVue’s AI can write the questions and the scoring guide from your job description. Your team can pick from a tested bank instead. Your team edits and approves the questions, the voice and the permissions first. Each interview leaves a recording, a transcript and a score with its reasoning for every answer. It also builds a ranked list your recruiters can work down. It runs in French, English, Spanish and Portuguese, in the United States, Canada, Australia, Brazil and Mexico.
The scoring reads only the words in the transcript. It does not read how a candidate looks or sounds. Facial expressions, body language, appearance, background and tone of voice play no part. HireVue says it does not use facial analysis to judge candidates. This matters if you hire in Europe. Reading a candidate’s feelings while they answer counts as emotion-reading. That has been banned in the EU since 2 February 2025.
Three outside companies work on this product. HireVue names them on its published list of outside data handlers. OpenAI supplies the language models the interviewer runs on. ElevenLabs supplies the voice, turning speech into text and text into speech. Google Cloud supplies transcription and translation. Get each company’s data location written into your contract.
HireVue connects to Workday, SAP SuccessFactors Recruiting, Oracle Recruiting Cloud and Taleo through ready-built connections. It also names SmartRecruiters, iCIMS, Greenhouse, PageUp, Avature, BrassRing, Oleeo, Cornerstone and Eightfold, more than 45 hiring systems in total. The result goes to the candidate’s record in that system.
You have to buy HireVue’s platform to use the interviewer. Our market guide shows where HireVue sits next to the rest of the market.
Its security paperwork is done, and candidates can opt out
Candidates can opt out and still get a person
Candidates see and agree to AI-assisted recording, evaluation and scoring before the interview starts. HireVue offers an opt-out and adjustments for candidates who need them. It also offers an equal path with no AI at all. AdventHealth let applicants opt out at any point, and promised them a person either way. Candidates pay nothing and download nothing. HireVue says candidates give it an average net promoter score of 71. That measures how many would recommend the experience.
Its audits and certificates are ready before you ask
HireVue runs an outside audit every year, called SOC 2 Type 2. It checks security, whether the service stays up, accurate handling of data, confidentiality and privacy. It also holds two ISO certificates, one for information security and one for privacy. It says it meets GDPR, Europe’s privacy law. It also says the US government has checked and approved it, under a programme called FedRAMP.
Each score comes with the reason behind it
Each score ties to a written description of what a good answer looks like. The software explains which parts of the answer met that standard, and why. You can also put your own logo, colours and tone on everything a candidate sees.
Its bias audit covers an older product, and an Illinois case is open
HireVue was founded in 2004. The Carlyle Group, a private equity firm, completed a majority investment on 15 October 2019. Granite Ventures, Sequoia, TCV and HireVue’s own management stayed on as smaller investors. Jeremy Friedman became chief executive in January 2024. He took over from Anthony Reynolds. HireVue bought Modern Hire in May 2023.
Two cases sit on the public court record. Deyerler v. HireVue Inc. is a proposed group lawsuit filed in Illinois in January 2022. It claims HireVue broke the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act. A federal court let most of the claim stand in February 2024. The case is still open. A second case, Rodrigues v. HireVue, Inc., was filed in Missouri in October 2025.
The 2023 bias audit does not cover the voice interviewer
HireVue hired DCI Consulting Group, a Washington DC compliance firm, in January 2023. That audit tested HireVue’s older algorithms for race and gender bias, to meet New York City’s Local Law 144. The voice interviewer went on sale in June 2026, so that audit does not cover it. HireVue promises a new independent audit every year. It says it tests every model for unfair results by group before launch. In New York City, the audit, its public summary and the notices fall on the employer, not the vendor.
AdventHealth is the only customer named so far
HireVue names one customer for the interviewer, AdventHealth. It also gives figures such as an 86% completion rate. No named customer stands behind those figures. Get a reference in your own industry that has been live for more than three months.
The data agreement covers more than the interview itself
HireVue’s data processing agreement covers the video or audio recording, the CV, and the answers to job-related questions. It also says data on race, gender and ethnic origin may be sent to others for some services. One stated purpose is to improve HireVue’s own services. Send this agreement to your privacy lead first.
Get the interview length and format on your first call
The length of the interview changes how many applicants finish it. So does the format, phone or browser. The format also decides what happens to a candidate on a poor connection. Candidates will ask what feedback they get on their own interview. Agree that answer with your recruiters before you go live.
It fits volume hiring on Workday, SuccessFactors or Oracle
AdventHealth screened over 2,500 nursing candidates in 90 days
“During the pilot, we had well over 2,500 candidates complete the AI screening.” Keisha Malivert runs workforce strategy at AdventHealth. She is describing 90 days on nursing roles. AdventHealth is a health system. It makes around 25,000 clinical and non-clinical hires a year. Applicants moved 79% faster from application to review by a hiring manager. That beat a 70% target. More than 54% of applicants chose the AI screening when offered it. AdventHealth’s recruiters saved over $40,000 in screening time, about eight hours per hire. 41% of interviews finished outside business hours.
More than 140 Workday customers use its ready-built connection
HireVue is a Workday Select Partner. It also has 50 live customers on SAP SuccessFactors Recruiting, and more than 100 on Oracle Recruiting Cloud and Taleo. If you run one of those three, connecting HireVue is a support request, not a build project.
Candidates can take it at any hour, and in French in Canada
The interview is open at any hour, and candidates take it on their own schedule. In Canada, the interview runs in both English and French. It also scores language ability on a scale called the Common European Framework of Reference, from A1 to C2. That is how Europe describes how well someone speaks a language.
One contract covers the screen, the assessment and the interview
HireVue has run more than 70 million interviews. The screen, the assessment and the interview all sit on one platform, under one contract. That suits a company that wants fewer hiring suppliers, not one more.
HireVue prices privately and raises fees 10% at renewal
Every HireVue pricing page ends in a conversation with its sales team. HireVue calls its own customers “mid-market to enterprise”. It publishes no minimum headcount, seat count or interview volume.
Three US federal contracts give the only public sense of scale. They come from the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security, between 2021 and 2024. All three predate this interviewer, and none of them names it. Treat them as the shape of an enterprise agreement, not your own quote.
HireVue lists professional services, customer success, and workplace psychology services as separate lines. It also confirms it provides training. Get the cost of each written into your order form.
HireVue’s contract renews your order automatically. It renews for the longer of your original term or one year. Its own wording says fees are “subject to a 10% annual increase year over year”. To stop the renewal, send written notice to HireVue’s renewals address. It must arrive at least 60 days before your current term ends. Miss that date and the order renews anyway.
The contract stores your data for two years from the day it is first stored. Your team can set a different retention period. After two years, HireVue may delete the data under its own policies. Its duty to store anything ends when your agreement does. You can pull your data out through HireVue’s standard export. Another method costs a fee set in your order form. On written request, HireVue will delete everything of yours it holds. Set the retention period before you sign.
You could also build a screen, an interview and a debrief on your own tracking system. We have mapped what that looks like. See it as an agent
What to ask before you sign
- Which auditor has tested AI Interviewer itself for unfair results by group, and on what date? Good answer: A named auditor, a 2026 date, and the results for our own roles.
- Can the software ever move a candidate forward or turn one away on its score alone? Good answer: No, and written notice before that ever changes.
- Which of your three outside providers gets our candidates’ voice, and which gets the transcript? Good answer: OpenAI, ElevenLabs and Google Cloud, named by task.
- Will you promise in writing that none of those three companies trains on our candidates’ data? Good answer: Yes, in writing, for all three.
- Can we turn off the use of our candidates’ data to improve your own services? Good answer: Yes, in the order form.
- What does the platform itself cost at our headcount? Good answer: One written figure, with training and services as separate lines.
- What cap will you put on the 10% renewal rise, and will you confirm our notice date each year? Good answer: A capped percentage, and a written reminder before the 60-day deadline.
- Will you put facial analysis and the Illinois case in a written clause naming AI Interviewer? Good answer: Yes, as a written clause.
Alternatives to HireVue, including buying nothing
If HireVue looks like more platform than you need, look at five other products. Eightfold and Talview Ivy are bought the same way, as part of a larger platform, on a quote. Apriora and HeyMilo are sold on their own, for high-volume hiring. Greenhouse Voice AI works deepest inside Greenhouse. Buying nothing is a sixth route.
If you run Greenhouse, its own interviewer needs no new supplier. It needs no security review and no procurement cycle either. Give it two weeks and see whether your recruiters use it.
Apriora and HeyMilo sell the interview alone, with no platform underneath. HeyMilo can move a candidate on or reject them automatically, once someone switches that on. Apriora’s Coordinator books the next interview by itself once a candidate clears your bar. Apriora says it does not auto-reject. Eightfold and Talview are the closer match if you want a platform. Neither publishes a price.
Buying nothing yet is a real option. HireVue helps most when recruiters cannot reach every applicant. AdventHealth, HireVue’s only named customer, makes around 25,000 hires a year. If your recruiters already reach every strong candidate, this contract may cost more effort than the screening saves. Our market guide weighs buying nothing against every product in this market.
