HireVue AI screening interviews

HireVue AI Interviewer speaks with every applicant by voice. It asks follow-up questions and scores the answers against your own criteria for the role. A recruiter reviews the ranked list and decides who moves on. HireVue publishes no price, so you get one by quote. The signed order cannot be cancelled, and renewals rise 10% a year.

HireVue interviews every applicant by voice and gives the price by quote

In one line

HireVue AI Interviewer holds a voice interview with each applicant and ranks the results for a recruiter. It connects to Workday, Oracle, SAP SuccessFactors and other applicant tracking systems. The contract is firm and the price comes by quote.

Look at it if

You use Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, Oracle, SmartRecruiters, PageUp, iCIMS, Greenhouse or Avature. You want results inside that system. You want to set the scoring criteria for each role. You can sign an order that is final once signed.

Check first

You have a written price for AI Interviewer alone. The uptime promise covers AI Interviewer.

Skip it if

You need the right to leave early. You cannot accept HireVue using your data to improve its services. You cannot accept a legal risk that sits with you.

Price

No public price. Fees follow the headcount, uses and hires in your order. The smallest US government award was $178,628, for a one-month pilot of 100 licences. The largest was about $4 million over three years.

What an applicant and a recruiter each see

The applicant takes the interview by voice, at any hour. HireVue’s platform sends invitations by email, WhatsApp, text message or a web widget. It sends reminders by text. The AI asks questions and records the answers. It adds follow-up questions when an answer needs more detail. HireVue screens every applicant, not only a shortlist. It speaks French, English, Spanish, Portuguese and other languages. Recruiters also receive a language score aligned to CEFR, the European scale for language levels.

You do not write the interview from nothing. The AI suggests questions and answer marking guides from your job description. Your team edits and approves the questions, the voice and the permissions. You set the criteria for each role, level, location and team. HireVue then scores each response against those criteria, shows whether it meets them and gives the reason. Every score links back to what the candidate said and to your marking guide. Scores follow behavioural anchors, which are written examples of what a strong and a weak answer look like.

After the interviews, recruiters see a list ranked for review before they call anyone. They choose which candidates move on from screening. The scores appear in your applicant tracking system, and the results flow back to the candidate record. In most connections a recruiter can open the full result from a link inside the system they already use.

HireVue has pre-built connections with Workday, SmartRecruiters and PageUp. The Workday connection is certified and has more than 140 live customers. SmartRecruiters customers can switch theirs on themselves. HireVue also integrates with SAP SuccessFactors Recruiting, Oracle Recruiting Cloud and Taleo, iCIMS, Greenhouse and Avature. The Oracle connection has more than 100 live customers, and the SAP SuccessFactors connection has 50. HireVue also connects with Eightfold, a talent intelligence platform. Some partners add extra automation in certain subscription packages.

Check who moves candidates on. The customer decides who moves forward and recruiters make the final call. HireVue’s summaries report scores only, not actions. The platform also has automation rules that move candidates to the next stage by score. When you use those rules, a score alone moves a candidate. Write down which rules are on, who can change them and who reviews the people they hold back.

HireVue also sells scheduling, code challenges and interview summaries. It also has a careers-site assistant that guides visitors to jobs. Our page on HireVue in the AI interview agents guide covers the same company from the interview side.

What HireVue does about fairness and cheating

Its scored video assessments read the words, not the face

For AI-scored video assessments, the AI analyses the transcript. It does not analyse facial expressions, body language, appearance, background or tone of voice. HireVue designs its AI to support human decisions, not replace them. AI Interviewer is a voice product, so ask whether it scores tone of voice.

Every model is tested for unequal results before it goes live

Every model passes an adverse impact test before launch. Adverse impact means one group is picked at a much lower rate than another. HireVue’s check uses the four-fifths rule. US federal agencies treat a rate under four-fifths of the top group’s rate as evidence of adverse impact. HireVue audits for fairness against New York City’s law on automated hiring tools (Local Law 144). It also audits against the US equal employment regulator (the EEOC), the US federal contractor regulator (OFCCP) and state laws. Its science team also checks assessment models for differences between demographic groups.

It follows named standards and has brought in outside auditors

HireVue aligns its AI to the US government’s AI risk framework (NIST) and the EU AI Act. It also aligns to ISO 42001, an international standard for managing AI. In January 2023 HireVue hired DCI Consulting Group to audit its competency-based and game-based algorithms. The audit falls under Local Law 144. In January 2021 HireVue reported an algorithmic audit by ORCAA of a pre-built assessment for early-career hiring. Both audits came before AI Interviewer existed.

It has settings that make cheating harder

The platform can flag a candidate who navigates away from the screen. It takes snapshots and stops candidates pasting text. Its fraud detection works in layers rather than on one signal. A single behaviour does not automatically count as proof of fraud.

Candidates can opt out or ask for an adjustment

Candidates can ask for an adjustment or opt out of AI. In the AdventHealth pilot, applicants could opt out at any time. They were promised a human follow-up whichever way they chose.

Results from HireVue and its customers

AdventHealth ran a 90-day pilot of HireVue’s AI screening for nursing roles. AdventHealth makes about 25,000 hires a year. In the pilot, applicants moved 79% faster from application to manager review. The target was 70%. Recruiters saved over $40,000 of screening time, which is about eight hours per hire. Over 54% of applicants chose AI screening, and 41% of candidates finished their interviews outside business hours. AdventHealth’s hiring managers also struggled to keep up with interviews once screening volume rose.

HireVue’s AI saves recruiters 10 hours a week, or 30 minutes on every screen. HireVue puts the completion rate of its conversational AI interviews at 86%. In HireVue’s feedback, 78% of candidates prefer AI screening to a human screen. In HireVue’s early-career and graduate data, high scorers are over three times as likely to get high performance ratings. Ask HireVue whether that result holds for AI Interviewer.

When HireVue is worth a demo

  • Your applicant tracking system is one HireVue connects to.
  • Each role draws more applicants than your recruiters can call.
  • You hire in more than one language and want a language score in the profile.
  • You can accept a firm order and an annual price rise.

HireVue builds the platform for hiring needs from mid-market to enterprise. If none of these four lines fits, look at the alternatives.

What the contract, the data terms and the risks commit you to

HireVue can use your data to improve its services

The master agreement lets HireVue use your customer data for the performance and enhancement of its services. It lets HireVue keep usage data for its own research and development, including training and product improvement. The data processing agreement treats video and audio interview recordings as application data. It also names improving the quality of the services as a business purpose under California law. HireVue’s FAQ promises that your data stays yours and that any use beyond running your interviews is explicit and controlled.

Outside companies handle your candidates’ voices and answers

HireVue passes data to OpenAI for the AI models behind AI Interviewer. It uses ElevenLabs for the voice and Google Cloud for speech-to-text and translation. Anthropic’s Claude is used for Talent Engagement and Interview Insights only, and has no access to customer data. The data processing agreement lets HireVue move personal data from Europe to the United States and other countries. It says the data moved may include race, gender and ethnic origin.

The order is final once signed, and it renews at a higher price

Your order cannot be cancelled and your fees are not refunded, even if you use less than you bought. The one exception is a breach by HireVue that it does not dispute and does not fix. Renewal fees rise 10% a year on auto-renewal. You must send notice of non-renewal at least 60 days before the term ends, or the order renews. On termination, HireVue stops the services and your access ends at once.

The legal risk sits with you

The master agreement says HireVue does not take part in evaluating or selecting candidates. You are responsible for legal compliance. You also cover HireVue against third-party claims. These come from your hiring, your use of the services and your configurations. HireVue’s total liability stops at the recurring annual fees you paid in the previous twelve months. Disputes go to confidential arbitration before a single arbitrator.

HireVue can change the agreement and name you as a customer

HireVue can change the agreement at its sole discretion. A change binds existing customers 15 days after it is posted. The agreement lets HireVue name you on its website and in marketing. It bars you from submitting health data, sensitive personal information or special categories of data without HireVue’s written approval.

The uptime promise covers the core platforms

HireVue’s uptime promise covers its core platforms, at 99.0%. Ask whether AI Interviewer is one of them.

The product is new

HireVue announced AI Interviewer on 18 June 2026. It calls it the first product after its March 2026 purchase of Hireguide’s technology. The company itself dates from 2004. The Carlyle Group took a majority stake in 2019, and HireVue bought Modern Hire in 2023. It has more than 1,150 customers, including over 60% of the Fortune 100.

Two US court cases name HireVue

Deyerler v. HireVue is a biometric privacy case under the Biometric Information Privacy Act. It was filed on 27 January 2022. On 26 February 2024 the court granted HireVue’s motion in part and denied it in part. Rodrigues v. HireVue was filed on 6 October 2025. The complaint attached a Charge of Discrimination. The court dismissed the case on 27 May 2026.

There is no public price, and leaving takes planning

HireVue shows no price. Its master agreement bases fees on the scope and parameters in your order. They include headcount, uses and hires. If you go over those limits, HireVue can invoice you automatically. Standard Success support comes with every subscription at no extra cost. Premier Success Gold and Platinum are upgraded support packages. They may add customer success help, professional services and psychology services each year.

Public US government records show what some buyers committed to pay for HireVue. A US Department of Defense subscription through EC America runs from 18 June 2026 to 17 June 2027 at $450,465.52. An earlier Defense award through EC America, from 18 December 2023 to 17 June 2026, was $837,542.35. A US Department of Health and Human Services subscription for 3 December 2024 to 3 December 2025 was $212,312.37. A Defense pilot of 100 licences in August 2022 was $178,628.40. A Homeland Security award through EC America was $3,996,237.45, for 30 September 2024 to 29 September 2027. Ask HireVue whether AI Interviewer is part of a subscription like these.

HireVue stores your data for two years from first storage while you subscribe. After that, it may delete it under its policies. Once the contract ends, HireVue has no duty to keep storing your data or materials. You can export through the application programming interface (API). A different method may be available on terms, and for a fee, set in your order. HireVue deletes all your customer data on written request. The hiring company sets how long HireVue keeps interview data, and HireVue purges it when that period ends.

You could also find and screen people with agents built on your own systems. We have mapped what that looks like. The HR Agent Map

Alternatives to HireVue

Humanly, HeyMilo, Apriora, Metaview, Talview and CodeSignal also run AI screening interviews.

Humanly is built for hourly, frontline and high-volume hiring. It covers engagement, screening, scheduling and AI interviews, and it has its own applicant tracking system. HeyMilo interviews and screens every applicant by voice, video, text message and forms, in more than 20 languages. Its case studies run from teams of 1 to 10 people up to an enterprise. Apriora, which sells under the name Alex, handles outreach, screening, interviewing, verification and scheduling. It keeps a person involved at every step.

Metaview runs a short voice interview and assesses answers against a marking guide. Only a human decides who moves on or is rejected. Talview’s Ivy runs structured, role-specific conversations. Talview holds a SOC 2 Type II report, an independent audit of its security controls. CodeSignal publishes its plans. Build costs $79 a month, billed annually, and suits companies under 100 employees. Grow costs $479 a month, billed annually, and suits companies under a few hundred.

Another route is to keep phone screens with your own recruiters. Count the screens you run in a month. At 30 minutes each, that is the time HireVue’s AI would save.
