CodeSignal AI Interviewer, from $79 a month billed yearly

CodeSignal interviews each applicant by phone, video or text and scores them. A recruiter reads the report and decides who moves on. The standard contract defines its services as tools for screening software developers. Check that it covers the roles you hire for.

CodeSignal publishes its prices, and a person decides who moves on

In one line

CodeSignal runs the first interview with every applicant and sends a scored report. Your recruiters make every decision.

Buy it if

You want to try an AI interview this month on a price you can read. You hire for roles in its interviewer list, such as engineering, product, design, sales or customer success. You are happy to have a recruiter read every report.

Do not buy it if

Your legal team needs a contract that covers non-developer roles as written. You need a stronger service promise than a credit and a plan. You need all candidate data processed outside the United States.

Price

Build costs $79 a month and Grow costs $479 a month, both billed yearly. The top plan is quoted. Extra credits cost $20 each. On Amazon Web Services (AWS) Marketplace, a 12-month CodeSignal tech interview and assessment starter kit costs $19,000. It comes with no refunds.

How a CodeSignal interview runs, from invitation to report

CodeSignal places its AI Interviewer as the first step after someone applies. If you use an applicant tracking system, it sends the invitation and the reminders. The candidate takes the interview on their own schedule. It runs by phone, by browser, or on video with an AI avatar, in voice or text. The AI asks follow-up questions when an answer is thin.

Your team sets the interview up. You can upload a job description and get a custom interview in minutes. You can also start from a template for Sales, Finance, Marketing, Accounting, Recruiter, BDR (business development) or Product roles. You choose the AI agent, the length, the tone, the focus areas, and how quickly the AI interrupts a candidate. CodeSignal maps your job description to a 1 to 5 scale for each skill. It keeps your own wording.

Each interview produces a report. The report holds an overall score, a skill evaluation, key insights, a transcript and a replay of the conversation. It also shows flags for cheating and fraud. Recruiters shortlist candidates and decide who moves forward. The AI does not decide who gets hired. Teams then move candidates to the next step without booking another phone screen.

For ID checks, CodeSignal matches a government-issued photo ID to the person on camera. This happens at the start of an interview or test. CodeSignal also gives a Suspicion Score. The score looks at how alike the solutions are, how the candidate worked and any copy and paste. It flags patterns that may show AI help. A CodeSignal team reviews recordings from supervised tests. A result rejected for cheating expires at once instead of waiting in a pending list. In Workday, a supervised result that failed verification reaches the record as a score of 0 with a rejection reason.

CodeSignal works with these applicant tracking systems. They are Ashby, Greenhouse, iCIMS, JazzHR, Lever, LinkedIn Talent Hub, SmartRecruiters, Taleo, Workable, Jobvite, SAP SuccessFactors, Yello, Gem and Workday. In Greenhouse you choose which result fields come back and can hold back the score. In Gem and Ashby, assessments appear as steps in your interview plan. Interviewer Agents is a newer version that sends scored summaries to any applicant tracking system seconds after each interview. A person still makes the final decision to move a candidate on.

CodeSignal is also in our AI interview agents guide. That guide looks at CodeSignal as an interview product.

The AI sourcing and screening guide shows how the rest of the market handles the first step.

A readable price list and a tuning trial before scoring is locked

You can read the prices before any sales call

CodeSignal publishes two plan prices and quotes the third. Its self-serve plans start at $79 a month and set up in minutes without a sales call. Every plan includes SOC 2 Type II compliance. An independent third party examines the controls each year, and the report is available on request.

Your own reviewers test the scoring before it is locked

During onboarding, CodeSignal offers a trial period. Your reviewers score the same interviews as the AI. CodeSignal’s workplace psychologists compare the two sets of scores and tune the AI until it matches your team. Then the marking guide is locked. CodeSignal also offers a study of whether groups pass at different rates in your trial.

Every candidate is marked on the same guide and the same scale

Each candidate is scored on one marking guide and one scale, with the reasons shown. A recruiter can open the transcript and replay the conversation to check a score.

Candidates can interview at any hour in more than 20 languages

CodeSignal’s phone interviews run in more than 20 languages. Nearly a third of its AI interview conversations happen outside the usual 9 to 5 day. A typical phone screen lasts about 15 minutes. You can set the length for each role, for example 10 or 20 minutes.

Zillow and Ramp use it, and CodeSignal sells phone screens for frontline roles

Zillow screens large applicant pools with mock calls

Zillow has more than 5,000 employees and has been a customer since 2024. It uses AI Interviewer and technical assessments. It built mock loan calls and mock sales calls to find talent in high-volume applicant pools. Zillow saw more recruiter and interviewer capacity within weeks. Zillow’s hiring leaders also saw candidates perform better with the AI interviewer than in recruiter phone screens.

Ramp built a customer experience assessment

Ramp has between 1,000 and 5,000 employees and has been a customer since 2023. It uses AI Interviewer, technical assessments and live interviews. Ramp built a fully automated customer experience assessment. Its scores were 98% aligned with human reviewers.

Phone screens for retail, hospitality and healthcare roles

Organisations using CodeSignal’s AI phone screens evaluate 8 times as many candidates as with manual screening. It is built for retail, hospitality, healthcare and other frontline roles. The screens handle hundreds of applicants at once without extra recruiter hours.

The contract is built for developer hiring and puts decisions on you

You are signing CodeSignal’s standard Master Subscription Agreement unless you negotiate changes.

The standard contract defines its services for developer hiring

CodeSignal’s Master Subscription Agreement defines its services as tools to recruit and screen software developers. CodeSignal also sells AI interviewers for sales, marketing, product and customer success roles. The contract also limits use to your own internal business purposes. Ask for the definition to cover the roles you hire for.

The contract leaves every hiring decision with you

The contract defines CodeSignal’s services, including the AI, as not an “automated employment decision tool”. You also agree not to use the services to automate decisions. You are responsible for decisions made with the AI, and its output may be inaccurate. A recruiter has to read each report and decide.

New York City’s law may still apply to you

“Automated employment decision tool” is New York City’s legal term for software that gives a score, classification or recommendation. It applies when the output substantially assists or replaces a hiring decision. The contract’s label does not settle whether the law applies to your use. The city’s rules require a bias audit even when a tool is used only for early screening. If you hire in New York City, ask who pays for the yearly bias audit.

CodeSignal can use some candidate information for its own purposes

Information a candidate gives CodeSignal on their own, apart from your account, is not your data under the contract. CodeSignal may use it under its own terms. The contract also lets CodeSignal use data with no personal details in it to develop its services. Some of the ways CodeSignal shares data may count as a sale of personal data. CodeSignal may use outside vendors to find leads and build user profiles.

If service drops, the remedy is small

The service promise is 99.95% uptime. In a month below that but above 95%, CodeSignal writes a plan to reach 99.95% if you ask. Below 90%, you get one month of service credit and a right to leave on 30 days’ notice. That promise is your only remedy for downtime. CodeSignal’s total liability is capped at the fees you paid in the last 12 months. Email support runs Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm Pacific time.

Money and disputes follow US terms

CodeSignal invoices in advance, and the fees are not refundable. Payment is due within 30 days, in US dollars. Late payments bear interest of up to 1% a month. CodeSignal can suspend service if undisputed fees stay unpaid 15 days after written notice. It can check your usage against your licence as often as monthly. Disputes that informal talks do not settle go to a private hearing in San Francisco before one arbitrator. The arbitrator can award only compensation for actual loss. California law governs.

Candidate data is processed in the United States

CodeSignal uses data centres only in the continental United States. Personal data is provided to CodeSignal in the US and hosted there. CodeSignal complies with the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and the UK Extension to it.

Video interviews report on body language

CodeSignal’s video avatar interviews give hiring teams insight into candidate presentation, body language and on-camera presence. The EU AI Act bans AI that infers a person’s emotions at work, except for medical or safety reasons. Ask CodeSignal exactly what the report scores before you switch video on in Europe.

Published plans run from $79 to $479 a month, billed yearly

CodeSignal sells interviews through prepaid units it calls credits. A credit is used when a candidate starts an assessment, an AI interview or a live interview. An unopened invitation costs nothing. When your included credits run out, extra credits cost $20 each.

Build costs $79 a month billed yearly and includes 60 credits a year. That works out to about $16 a credit. Grow costs $479 a month billed yearly and includes 420 credits a year, about $14 a credit. Paying monthly costs more. Build is $99 a month for 5 credits a month, about $20 a credit. Grow is $599 a month for 35 credits a month, about $17 a credit. These figures assume one credit for each started interview. Ask CodeSignal how many credits each interview type uses.

Build includes the Product, Design and Engineering AI Interviewers, AI supervised tests and the ID check. Grow adds the Sales, Customer Success and Marketing AI Interviewers and basic applicant tracking system links. Pro is quoted. It covers all assessments and AI Interviewers, stronger fraud prevention, role-based access and links for large tracking systems. Single sign-on, audit logs, a custom data contract and bias audits sit in the Pro list.

Build suits companies with fewer than 100 employees. Grow suits companies with fewer than a few hundred. Check your own headcount against those ranges. CodeSignal can change its prices without prior notice. The price in your order form holds for the term of that order.

When an order ends, CodeSignal returns or destroys your data within 30 days, at your expense. It keeps one backup a day for a year. Data from ID checks and supervised tests is stored and deleted within 15 days. Other candidate data is typically kept for the length of the subscription. You can change that and ask for one-off deletions. Either side can end the agreement on 30 days’ written notice for an uncured breach.

You could also find and screen people with agents built on your own systems. We have mapped what that looks like. The HR Agent Map

Eight questions to ask CodeSignal before you sign

  1. How many credits does each kind of interview use, and how many do we get on our plan? Good answer: A written table of credits per interview type, in the order form.
  2. Do the trial-period side-by-side scoring and group-difference study cost extra, and how is the top plan priced? Good answer: A price for each, written into the quote.
  3. Will you change the contract’s definition of services to cover the roles we hire for? Good answer: Yes, in the order form, with the roles named.
  4. Will you give us the full results of the side-by-side scoring and the group-difference study? Good answer: The full results in writing, ours to keep and to share with an auditor.
  5. What does the video interview report score about body language and presence, and can we switch that part off? Good answer: A list of every item scored and a setting to remove any item.
  6. If we use an applicant tracking system, which fields reach it? Can we hold back the score? What happens to a result that fails an ID check? Good answer: A named list per system, and a clear rule for a failed ID check.
  7. Where is candidate data processed, and will you limit your own use of what candidates give you? Good answer: A named country for every step, and a written limit on any other use.
  8. What do we get back when service falls short, and how do we export our data when we leave? Good answer: A remedy beyond the credit, and a file export at no charge within 30 days.

Alternatives to CodeSignal

The alternatives to CodeSignal are HackerRank, HireVue, HeyMilo and Apriora. Buying nothing is the fifth route.

HackerRank is the closest match. Its AI interviewer, Chakra, runs live voice interviews for technical and non-technical roles. It opens a live workspace where the candidate does real work. Reports give a score from 0 to 5 overall and for each section, with a transcript. Chakra links to Greenhouse, Ashby and Workday. HackerRank prices it per interview attempt with volume discounts. Chakra is an add-on for select enterprise customers. HackerRank’s separate Screen product has plans with 120 attempts a year on Starter and 300 on Pro. TechCrunch reported that Chakra became generally available on 5 October 2026, after about six months in beta. Under its AI Addendum, HackerRank will not use customer data to train its AI features. Its AI Feature Terms let it train on AI content that is aggregated and anonymous. Its terms forbid using the AI to make automated decisions without enough human review.

HireVue announced its AI Interviewer on 18 June 2026. It interviews every applicant by voice at any hour. HeyMilo screens and interviews every applicant by voice, video, text message and forms, in more than 20 languages. High-volume hiring teams use it. Apriora, sold as Alex, automates interviewing, screening, scheduling and verification of candidates.

Buying nothing means your team keeps the first round. With CodeSignal, the same team considers more applicants. If your team already interviews everyone who applies, that gain is smaller.

Sources The CodeSignal facts come from its website, product pages, customer stories, press releases and help centre. They also come from its privacy policy and Master Subscription Agreement. The alternatives draw on each vendor’s own pages. HackerRank also draws on a TechCrunch report. The EU AI Act text is from EUR-Lex. The New York City rules are from the city’s official site.
