iCIMS ranks applicants and suggests past candidates for new roles
iCIMS is an applicant tracking system with AI that ranks applicants and suggests past candidates for new roles. An outside firm has audited the ranking tool for bias, and that audit covers only one feature. Recruiters stay in control of both the ranking and the Sourcing Agent.
Buy iCIMS for AI inside its applicant tracking system, and ask for the price
iCIMS ranks the people who apply and suggests past candidates for new roles. The ranking sits inside the iCIMS applicant tracking system.
You already run iCIMS. Or you run a large hiring team and want ranking in your applicant tracking system. You want recruiters to read the reason behind each score. You want an outside bias audit you can ask to see.
You need to find people outside your own candidate database. iCIMS AI pulls candidate data from several sources, including job boards and internal talent communities. Ask which sources the Sourcing Agent searches.
Ask iCIMS for a written quote that lists every tool, so you can read the price line by line.
It ranks the people who apply and goes back to people on file
iCIMS has two main AI tools. Candidate Ranking works on people who apply. It sits in the iCIMS applicant tracking system, or ATS. A recruiter uses the ATS to follow each candidate from application to offer. The Sourcing Agent works on people already on file. It sits in iCIMS CXM, a recruitment CRM. A CRM is a list of past and possible candidates that a team keeps in touch with.
Candidate Ranking compares each applicant with the job description and puts the strongest matches first. iCIMS calls the scoring feature Role Fit. To reduce hiring bias, the platform removes each name and puts a number in its place.
A recruiter switches on the Sourcing Agent for a role. It reads the role and suggests candidates ranked by skills, requirements and relevance. It can bring back past candidates who nearly won a job, which iCIMS calls “silver medalists”. It also finds old profiles nobody has touched. It then sends personalised messages from approved templates.
Recruiters choose when and where to use the Sourcing Agent. CXM also scores engagement from a person’s activity, to show how ready they are to be hired. It builds a shortlist from those scores. Interview scheduling already lets candidates book their own slot from interviewer availability.
High Volume Hiring went on sale in July 2026. It helps teams engage, screen and advance large numbers of candidates. The same release improved Talent Explorer, the candidate search that combines keyword search with AI matching.
Our guide to AI sourcing and screening covers how the rest of this market handles the job.
The ranking sits in the iCIMS tracking system and has an outside audit
No extra integration, and you switch it on or off at any step
Candidate Ranking gives recruiters a ranked list of applicants against the requirements of each role. It is a feature of the iCIMS applicant tracking system. iCIMS AI can be switched on or off at any step and needs no integration.
Each score comes with a reason
The job fit score shows the experience match and the skills match. iCIMS AI also gives context on why each match is made. A recruiter can read the reason before acting on the score.
An outside firm audited the ranking tool for bias
iCIMS hired BABL AI to audit Candidate Ranking for bias. The audit follows the New York City law on automated hiring tools. A bias audit is an independent check of whether a tool treats groups differently. The audit found no adverse impact against any group, going by the details candidates gave about themselves. Adverse impact means one group is picked at a clearly lower rate. The audits were in November 2022 and November 2023. iCIMS will repeat the audit every year and give customers a public summary on request. Customers can find the audit in the iCIMS Trust Portal.
It connects to Workday, SAP, ADP, Oracle and UKG
The iCIMS applicant tracking system passes data both ways with most HR and payroll systems. Workday, SAP, SuccessFactors, ADP, Oracle and UKG are the common ones. iCIMS connects to more than 750 partners and its marketplace offers more than 300 products. The recruitment CRM works with the iCIMS tracking system or with another one. A team that uses another tracking system can keep it.
Hiring fast with the same team, or ranking a huge flow of applicants
KEO added 1,000 people in a year with the same size of recruiting team
KEO has 2,500 or more staff. Its need for talent rose 40% and it added 1,000 people in one year. iCIMS AI Talent Explorer let the same-size team manage the extra work. It also helped them identify suitable “Tier 1” candidates. KEO used it for candidate matching and shortlisting.
Wendy’s ranks applicants and recruiters still read every one
Wendy’s has 37,000 people. Role Fit evaluates candidates against the job description and ranks them on fit. The tool lifts the top matches. Recruiters still evaluate every application.
The audit covers one feature and the legal duty stays with you
iCIMS has grown by buying companies. It bought TextRecruit in 2018, Jibe in 2019, Opening.io and Altru Labs in 2020 and Apli in 2025. Ask which of its tools run on one platform today.
The audit covers one feature
One iCIMS AI feature meets the New York City definition of an automated hiring tool. That feature is Candidate Ranking using Role Fit. The audit covers that feature. iCIMS runs regular disparate impact testing on its other AI tools. That testing checks whether one group is picked at a lower rate. Ask for those results by name.
You decide how to comply with the law
Under the New York City law, customers need to know their own obligations and decide how to comply. iCIMS provides settings so you can offer candidates an opt-out and an alternative selection process where another law requires it. You decide whether to offer it.
Candidates take their data requests to you
iCIMS is a processor of your candidate data. That means it handles data for you while you decide how it is used. Its privacy notice tells candidates to contact the employer with a privacy request. iCIMS may also use customer data to create anonymised statistics. It may use public personal data to test its AI for accuracy and bias.
Several of the AI tools are new
In October 2025 the Sourcing Agent opened to customers as a trial before full sale. By September 2026 it was available. The Interview Scheduling Agent is due by the end of 2026. iCIMS bought Apli, the maker of its chat screening, in September 2025. Ask for customers who run each tool today.
One public order, and the contract terms to check
A US Department of Defense purchase order to iCIMS for a digital recruiting platform totals $12,600. It is one public order. Do not read it as a price list.
Ask for a quote that covers the ATS, CXM, High Volume Hiring, each AI tool and every user. Then check the contract terms and hosting details.
iCIMS keeps subscriber data for the time set in the Subscription Agreement. Read that period before you sign. All iCIMS locations offer at least 99.9% uptime. Uptime is the share of time the system is working. The US main site is in Virginia. Its failover is in Oregon or Washington State. A failover is the backup site that takes over if the main one stops. The EU main site is in Germany, with failover to Ireland. Frontline AI, the chat tool, is hosted in California, with failover to Virginia.
iCIMS holds security certificates, including ISO 27001:2022 and SOC 2 Type 2. These are outside checks of how a vendor protects data. ISO is the International Organization for Standardization. SOC stands for System and Organization Controls.
You could also find and screen people with agents built on your own systems. We have mapped what that looks like. The HR Agent Map
Nine questions for the demo
- When was the latest bias audit of Candidate Ranking, and can we read the full report? Good answer: The audit date and the full report in writing.
- Does the Sourcing Agent search beyond the candidates already in our database? Good answer: A clear answer on which sources it searches, in the contract.
- Can a recruiter see the reason behind the score for every candidate the AI ranked low? Good answer: Yes, on the recruiter’s screen, for every candidate.
- Is the opt-out and alternative selection process switched on by default for our account? Good answer: We set it, a named admin can change it, and changes are logged.
- Can you name a customer of similar size to ours that uses the ranking or the Sourcing Agent? Good answer: A named customer we can call, using the tool today.
- Which tools in our quote are on sale today and which are still in a trial? Good answer: A dated list, with a named customer for each live tool.
- How long do you keep our candidate data after the contract ends? How do we get it back and erased? Good answer: A written period, a file format and an erasure step in the Subscription Agreement.
- Which region hosts our data, and where is the backup site? Good answer: A named region for each, matching the hosting information for our country.
- What will you do with our candidate data to improve your own AI? Good answer: A written limit, and an opt-out for anything beyond anonymised statistics.
Alternatives to iCIMS
Workday Recruiting, Oracle Recruiting, SmartRecruiters and Greenhouse are applicant tracking systems. SeekOut, Juicebox and hireEZ are built around finding people. hireEZ runs on top of an employer’s existing applicant tracking system. Buying nothing is also an option.
