Recruitee

Recruitee is an applicant tracking system with two AI tools for screening and matching. The Screening Assistant checks each new applicant against criteria you set. The Matching Assistant suggests people you already hold for a new role. Both show how many criteria a person meets. Recruitee requires a person to review every screening result. The price depends on your plan, your headcount and how you pay.

Who Recruitee suits and who should look elsewhere

In one line

Recruitee gives your team a count of criteria met, not a score or a ranking. People still read the applications. It suits a team that wants a guide to who to read first.

Buy it if

You want AI help sorting applicants inside the system that holds them. You want to read the reason behind each result and change it. Your applicants come through a careers site form. Your team is happy to open every application, with the count as a guide.

Do not buy it if

You need a score or a ranked list for each person. You need every applicant screened, including those who arrive another way. You cannot accept fees that stay due when you end the contract early.

Price

The price depends on your plan and your headcount. You commit for at least a year.

It checks new applicants against your criteria and searches your past candidates

An applicant tracking system is the software that holds your open roles and every applicant. Tellent is the company behind Recruitee. It formed in 2022 from the teams behind Recruitee, KiwiHR and Javelo. You set up the criteria for a job once, and both AI tools use them. Recruitee suggests criteria from your job post and your screening questions. You can set up to six per job and save them on a job template.

The Screening Assistant starts on its own for new applicants in the Applied stage. It reads the CV, the cover letter and the answers to your screening questions. It shows how many criteria the applicant meets, for example 5/5. Open a criterion to read the AI’s explanation. A user can replace a result with their own and note the reason. Candidates do not see the criteria or the results. The assistant does not make hiring decisions or move candidates forward.

The Matching Assistant works on people already in your system. A user clicks Search for matches. It looks through your talent pools, which are groups of past candidates, and your other jobs. It recommends only people who meet at least 75% of the requirements. The tool hides no one, so you can still search everyone yourself. A company setting limits matches to people who agreed to be considered for other roles. Recruitee calls this their GDPR status, after the EU data protection law.

An AI Writer drafts personalised candidate emails and sums up feedback. WhatsApp Hiring is an optional add-on. It includes an AI assistant that answers candidate questions and guides applications.

Readable reasons, built-in fairness checks and EU hosting

Your team can check and overrule every result

You read the reason behind each result before you rely on it. If a recruiter disagrees, the team sees their note. You also edit or delete every criterion Recruitee suggests before you save it.

Fairness checks sit inside the set-up

Recruitee warns you as you write a criterion if it spots possible bias or unclear wording. Both assistants ignore name, age, contact details, social media links, gender and nationality. The Optimize plan includes fairness tools. One is Anonymous Candidates, which hides name, gender and nationality on a profile. The AI that hides these details sometimes misses some.

Past candidates get a second look, and a person chooses

A recruiter reviews the short list and decides who to assign. Assigned candidates enter a stage called Sourced, where the recruiter can message them personally. Recruitee records each assignment and each dismissal.

The main system is hosted in Germany

Google Cloud hosts the main system in Frankfurt and Berlin. Tellent holds SOC 2 Type II compliance and ISO 27001 certification, which are two independent security standards. Tellent does not use customer data to train AI models, unless its terms say so.

It counts criteria, reaches only careers-site applicants and leaves the legal duties to you

Screening reaches only people who apply through your careers site

The Screening Assistant covers candidates who use the application form on your careers site. It screens only new applicants after you switch it on for a published job. Applicants already in the job are not screened. Only a user with Full access at organisation level can switch it on or off for the company.

It shows how many criteria each person meets and ranks no one

Neither assistant ranks people or gives a suitability score. You can sort applicants by the count. Recruitee advises writing each criterion as a yes or no question that the application can answer. It also advises using results to decide who to read first, not who to turn down.

Matching can only find what you have stored

Recruitee advises sorting candidates into talent pools and keeping profiles up to date. The Matching Assistant is off until you accept legal terms. Your plan limits how many searches you can run.

Knockout questions can reject people with no one reading the application

Knockout questions are a separate feature. They disqualify candidates who miss your minimum answers and tell them so. A knockout question can turn someone away without a recruiter looking. Decide who on your team writes these questions, and who checks them.

The contract lets Tellent change the AI features

Some AI features may be on by default, and you can switch them off in your account. Tellent can change an AI feature or cut back what it does. It can also change usage limits during your subscription, without your agreement. Tellent may also use a copy of your content to improve its services. That copy is anonymised, combined into totals, or cut down.

You carry the duty to tell candidates, and to get consent

Recruitee requires you to tell candidates that AI is used in screening and in hiring. For the Matching Assistant it also requires explicit consent first and tells you to inform candidates of their data rights. Tellent’s AI Statement makes you responsible for disclosures where AI talks to candidates.

Tellent makes no claim that you may use it everywhere

The terms make no claim that the service may be lawfully used outside the USA, Germany, France and the Netherlands. If you hire elsewhere, get the answer in writing.

Finding people outside your records needs a browser add-on and a LinkedIn Recruiter seat

A Chrome browser add-on adds candidates from sites such as GitHub and Xing. LinkedIn blocks this add-on, and other outside tools, from copying its public profiles. Recruitee links to LinkedIn Recruiter through Recruiter System Connect. The link needs a LinkedIn Recruiter Corporate or Recruiter Professional Services seat. Switching it on sends all your historical candidate data to LinkedIn.

Who uses Recruitee

Smaller teams use it, from 25 to around 200 staff

Origin Materials started with Recruitee at 25 employees and now has around 200. Slingshot Group has over 60 employees.

Larger employers are on the customer list too

Keolis in Belgium has 2,900 employees. Sword Group has around 1,500. Maastricht UMC+ has more than 7,000. Tellent has more than 7,000 customers and more than 240 employees of its own.

Prêt À Manger and SPECTO use the AI tools

Prêt À Manger’s team used Recruitee’s candidate pre-screening tools most. It also used an AI-assisted filter that searches for targeted skills. A recruiter at SPECTO calls the AI analyses of candidates accurate and useful.

The price depends on your plan and your headcount

Recruitee prices a subscription by plan, number of employees and billing period. Paying a year at a time earns a 20% discount. The minimum commitment is one year, payable monthly. Recruitee’s plans include Start, Advance, Lead and Optimize. Optimize includes the Screening Assistant in full and 65 Matching Assistant searches a month. Advance includes 100 screenings and 3 Matching searches a month.

The free trial lasts 18 days and does not turn into a paid plan on its own. Tellent counts your employees before each contract year starts. If you pass your limit, you pay the fee of the lowest-priced plan that fits your headcount. WhatsApp Hiring costs extra. Meta, the owner of WhatsApp, charges for some messages beyond the first 1,000 a month. Ask Tellent what that would cost you.

Subscriptions run for yearly terms and renew on their own unless either side gives 90 days’ notice. At renewal Tellent can raise fees by up to 5% for each year since the last term began. It can raise them by the change in consumer prices instead if that is higher. You can end the contract at any time. Fees committed for the term, including renewals, then become due at once, and none are refunded. If Tellent causes a loss, the most it owes is six months of your fees.

Tellent promises 99.5% availability each quarter for most features. It makes this promise in a separate addendum for the Lead and Optimize plans. If Tellent misses the promise, you can ask for a credit of 10% of the quarterly fee.

After the contract ends you can download your content for 30 days. Tellent may delete it once those 30 days end. Tellent returns or deletes all personal data as you choose. It deletes the data within 60 days if you make no choice.

You could also find and screen people with agents built on your own systems. We have mapped what that looks like. The HR Agent Map

Eight questions to ask Recruitee

  1. What does our plan cost at our headcount? What is the price if we pass the employee limit? Good answer: A price in the order form for our current headcount, and the next price written down.
  2. Does the Screening Assistant on Optimize have any usage limit? Are the limits fixed in the order form for the whole term? Good answer: No limit, or a written limit that cannot change during our term.
  3. Will you agree in writing that our candidate data never trains AI models? Does that include the copy you use to improve your services? Good answer: Yes, in the order form, with the anonymised copy defined.
  4. If you remove an AI feature during our term, do we get a lower price or a way out? Good answer: A written right to a lower fee or to leave without paying the rest of the term.
  5. Which outside AI providers see our applicants’ data, and where? Your support provider, Intercom, processes data in Virginia, USA. Good answer: A named provider and country for each, and a list of what each one receives.
  6. Will you confirm in writing that we may use the service in every country we hire in? Good answer: A written confirmation for each country we hire in.
  7. Does the 99.5% availability promise cover our plan, and how do we claim the 10% credit? Good answer: Our plan named in the addendum, with a simple way to claim.
  8. When we leave, how do we get every candidate record, screening result and note out in bulk? Good answer: A file format and a time window written into the contract, longer than 30 days if we ask.

Alternatives to Recruitee

Teamtailor, Breezy HR, Pinpoint and Workable are other applicant tracking systems with AI built in. Buying nothing is a fifth route.

Choose Breezy HR or Pinpoint if you want a score for each applicant. Breezy HR’s Applicant Insights scores every applicant from 0 to 10 against criteria you control. It drafts up to five scoring categories from your job description. Breezy HR charges from $30 per 100,000 Breezy Intelligence credits. Pinpoint gives a score out of 10 with a written verdict, strengths and concerns. Pinpoint’s AI Match Scores use Pinpoint Credits. Its AI Hiring Copilot also searches your talent pool in everyday language.

Teamtailor’s Co-pilot searches your talent pool for strong matches and evaluates candidates against your criteria. An admin must switch it on. Workable’s Workable Agent also finds people who have not applied. It launched in March 2026. It sources, screens and qualifies candidates and hands over a shortlist. It searches a database of more than 400 million profiles. You add it to any plan and pay in Workable’s AI credits.

Buying nothing means screening applicants by hand. If you already use an applicant tracking system, ask its vendor which screening and search tools it includes. Our market guide covers the wider field.
