Avature
Avature is a recruiting platform for large employers that want to shape each hiring step themselves. It adds AI helpers you can place and limit, plus career sites and a candidate database. TenneT planned a contract with Avature worth 1.3 million euros. A US State Department order for Avature software totals 2.7 million dollars. Each was one buyer’s deal, so your price will differ. Ask for a full written quote and a dated list of live AI features. Ask how to switch off any step that acts on a candidate alone.
Avature suits a large employer that wants to shape every hiring step
Avature is an applicant tracking system for large employers that set up hiring their own way. It also sells a candidate database, onboarding and AI helpers.
You hire across many regions, brands or business units, and each needs its own process. You have a project team and a budget for set-up work. You want to switch AI on one step at a time.
You hire a few people a month and want the simplest tool that works. Avature itself notes that smaller hiring volumes may not need the same adjustability.
Ask Avature for a written quote. A US State Department delivery order to Copper River Technologies for Avature software reached $2,738,818.52. TenneT TSO GmbH planned a contract worth 1,277,025 euros.
From job request to offer, with AI helpers you can place and limit
Avature covers the whole path from job request to offer. The everyday steps come first here, then what sets it apart. A manager asks for a job, and the request goes through approval steps. Candidates are screened with role questions, a ranking of candidates and built-in assessments. Interviews are booked by automated scheduling tied to calendars. Offers and candidate messages use templates, and reports track progress.
What a large employer gets is a separate screen for each role in the hiring team. Recruiters, hiring managers and interviewers each have their own. Managers can request jobs, review candidates, give feedback, approve offers and move candidates from the Hiring Manager Portal. That lets managers act themselves instead of passing every step to a recruiter. The scheduler imports availability from Exchange, Office 365 or Google. Candidates can then schedule, confirm, reschedule or decline interviews by text. They can also see the live status of their applications on the career site. A career site can be built once and managed in many languages. That suits an employer that hires in several countries.
The main reason to look at Avature is how far you can shape it. It can be set up by region, business unit, brand and hiring model.
A large employer already runs many other systems. Ready-made connections mean less work moving data by hand. Avature offers more than 300 of them. They include HR systems, chatbots, assessments, background checks, job boards, e-signature and text messaging. An Events API gives other systems a live feed of activity. WebSources imports candidates from dozens of job boards each day. LinkedIn CRM Connect sends a profile from LinkedIn Recruiter to Avature’s candidate database in one click.
Avature calls its AI helpers agents, and they come in two kinds. Some write summaries for a person to read. The Hiring Manager Agent writes summaries that compare candidates with one another and the role. After an interview, agents analyse the transcript and write summaries for recruiters, with gaps and next steps. Others act in the platform itself. They carry out tasks there directly. The Recruiter Agent books interviews, writes job descriptions and summarises candidates. It also updates each candidate’s outcome, drafts feedback and generates offer letters. The Candidate Agent answers questions, recommends jobs, sets alerts, books interviews and helps with applications and first screening. The AI Interviewer Agent lets candidates answer role-specific questions aloud, at a time they choose. Recruiters keep access to transcripts, recordings and recommendations before they decide. A fraud detection tool checks 8 signals and flags profiles for recruiter review. The split matters because the second kind can change what happens to a candidate.
Your own team can extend the AI, and that is one more thing to place and limit. Authorised users can make custom agents with Agent Builder, without code. Avature AI Connect uses the Model Context Protocol, a standard that lets agents inside and outside Avature share data. External tools can reach authorised Avature data through it. So decide which data you let reach them.
Avature may also be the supplier of what you buy next. It sells the ATS alone, or combined with its candidate database and onboarding in a Talent Acquisition Suite. It also sells a Talent Management Suite. That suite covers employee onboarding, engagement, HR case management, internal mobility, learning, performance management and succession planning. Adding parts later is one more cost to ask about. Our guide to applicant tracking systems places Avature among the others.
What Avature offers a large employer on security, AI control and audits
A large employer has to answer for its candidate data and its AI. These are the parts of Avature that help you do that.
Security approvals and a choice of where data sits
A large employer answers to security reviewers. So approvals and data location matter. Avature holds ISO, SOC 1 and SOC 2 certifications. It also holds FedRAMP Authorised status, a US government cloud security approval that matters to US government buyers. Avature gives two dates. It puts the approval at April 2025 on its trust page and March 2025 on its public sector page. The US government’s marketplace data gives 28 March 2025 for the Avature Federal Platform, approved through a single US agency. Ask which product and which date your contract covers. You can also choose where candidate data sits. Avature offers a private cloud with data centres in the US, Europe and Asia, or the AWS public cloud.
AI that you place and switch on step by step
You, not Avature, decide which AI helpers run. You also decide what they may touch. Customers decide where Avature’s AI helpers sit and whether they are switched on. Administrators control each helper’s instructions, data sources and access levels. Access to AI can be set by role, and helpers can be given approval requirements. Avature promises that when its AI features process customer data, the data stays within the customer’s environment. It also promises the data is not used to train or improve the base AI models.
Annual outside bias audits and a stated risk framework
A bias audit checks whether a tool treats groups of candidates differently. An outside audit is harder to dispute. Avature has independent AI bias audits every year. One of them is an audit of automated employment decision tools for New York City’s bias audit law. Its AI approach is guided by NIST AI RMF 1.0, a US risk framework. Avature has also built a Fundamental Rights Impact Assessment and a data governance policy. The policy puts weight on lawful purpose, less data collected and less bias. Ask for the audit summary itself.
Privacy tools for candidates and for you
Candidate data rules differ by country. So privacy tools matter to an employer that hires in several. Candidates can delete their profiles on the career site, if the feature is enabled. Avature coordinates automatic removal of opt-outs and dormant profiles. Privacy settings can be adjusted for GDPR, CCPA and other laws. The EU has approved Avature’s Binding Corporate Rules for transfers of data inside the Avature Group. An in-application journal logs user activity.
Who gets the most from Avature, and who may find it too much
Avature is not a tool for every team. Check your own situation against these cases before you book a demo.
Employers with many regions, brands or business units
Avature’s ATS is best suited to large enterprises. The set-up options show why. It can be set up by region, business unit, brand and hiring model. So each part of a big employer can run its own process. Avature reports more than 650 enterprise customers across 164 countries and 32 languages.
Employers that hire in bulk for the same roles
Hiring many people for the same roles is a different job. It is not like hiring one specialist at a time. Avature sells a High-Volume Recruiting product for evergreen, seasonal and part-time staff. Its high-volume customers include USPS, Walmart, DHL, Deutsche Bahn, Victoria’s Secret and Virgin Media O2. Avature reports an 81% cut in time to fill at USPS and 4,000 automatic screenings a day at DHL. Victoria’s Secret is quoted on time to hire falling from four or five days to as low as one hour. These are Avature’s own figures, so ask to speak to a customer.
Employers that want to keep their current ATS for now
Replacing an ATS is a big step. Avature lets you start smaller. Its Career Sites can run without replacing an existing ATS. They can also bring jobs together from several ATSs and send applications back to each one. Avature reports that the Talent Acquisition Suite can be implemented in full or started with single parts.
Smaller hiring volumes may not need all of it
Avature has advised organisations from decentralised global companies to small-scale firms. Even so, Avature itself notes that smaller hiring volumes may not need the same adjustability. If you hire a few people a month, ask what the extra control would buy you.
Where Avature needs a closer look before you sign
Before you sign, work out how much of your hiring Avature would do with no person involved. In Avature’s High-Volume Recruiting product, knock-out or weighted questions reject candidates who do not make the cut. Top-rated candidates are sent an offer, or invited to interview, automatically. Avature’s explainable AI ranks candidates and shortlists them by shift availability and assessment scores. Explainable means the AI can show its reasons. The employer chooses which tasks are automated.
That choice is yours, so write down which steps may act on a candidate without a person. The law cares about this. GDPR Article 22 gives a person the right not to face a decision based solely on automated processing. That right covers decisions with legal or similarly significant effects. Its Recital 71 gives e-recruiting without any human intervention as an example. The EU AI Act puts candidate-screening AI on its high-risk list, unless an Article 6(3) exemption applies. The exemption can apply, but not when the system profiles people. The high-risk rules for these systems start on 2 December 2027. So ask Avature whether the ranking and shortlisting you plan to switch on profile candidates.
In New York City, Local Law 144 limits the use of automated employment decision tools to screen candidates. It applies to jobs based in a New York City office at least part time. Using such a tool is unlawful unless it had a bias audit within one year before use. The employer must also publish a summary of the latest audit on its own website before use. That duty is yours, because the vendor that made the tool is not responsible for its bias audit. Avature has an annual bias audit that covers this law, so start there. Ask whether it covers the features you will switch on.
The shaping that attracts you is also what adds cost
Shaping Avature your own way is the main reason to buy it. It is also what costs more. Avature warns that deeper customisation can add costs, longer implementation periods and extra testing work. Your own staff do that testing before go-live. Avature reports that a customer can go live in a few weeks with its best-practice Talent Acquisition Suite. So decide how much shaping you need before you are quoted. Large implementations have a professional project manager. Avature cleans, purges, prepares and loads your data before go-live. Ask what your own set-up involves, and who pays for each part.
One AI helper is announced, not live
A Building Agent for reports is coming. It is not yet something you can use. That is a reason to check what is live before you count on it. Ask for a dated list of every AI helper that is live for customers today. Ask which ones are still on the plan.
Avature gives two accessibility levels
The accessibility level sets how well people with disabilities can use your career site. So the level matters. On its career-site material, Avature’s portal apps can be made WCAG 2.2 AA compliant. Its accessibility statement follows WCAG 2.1 AA instead. Ask which level applies to your own career sites, and get it in writing.
The result figures come from Avature
Avature reports a retention result for talent found with its skills parser. That is a tool that reads CVs. It also reports time-to-hire and cost-of-hire results for named customers. Ask for the method behind each figure, or for a customer who will repeat it to you.
What Avature costs, and what the public contracts tell you
The price that counts is the one in your own written quote, so ask Avature for it. The only price evidence on this page comes from public contracts, and each belongs to one buyer. They are still useful, because they show which lines a large Avature deal can contain.
In June 2023 the US Department of State signed a delivery order with Copper River Technologies, LLC. The order is for an applicant tracking system, Avature software. The total obligation is $2,738,818.52. The ceiling with all options is $5,885,678.52. That ceiling is more than double the committed amount. So ask which options your quote includes and what each would add.
In 2021 TenneT TSO GmbH published a procurement for an ATS. It included a CRM system, which is a database of candidates, plus add-ons, set-up support, training and consulting. So your own quote should split those lines out. TenneT planned a direct contract with Avature. The total value was 1,277,025 euros. The contract was set for an initial four years with no predetermined end date. So ask Avature about the term and how renewal works.
Two buyers plan to add to the Avature set-up they already have. TenneT uses a cloud-based Avature recruiting solution and plans to add performance management. EnBW plans to extend its existing Avature recruiting solution with four applications. So ask what adding parts later would cost you. Each contract belongs to one buyer, so your price will differ.
Set-up and support may not all come from Avature. Apprilis is an Avature partner by its own account. It sells Avature cloud support, implementation and optimisation on the UK government’s G-Cloud 15 marketplace. So part of the work may be bought from a partner. Ask whether you would need a partner like that.
Before you sign, plan how you leave. Avature offers a Data Lake and a tool called Sherlock. Together they send data changes to outside systems as events and snapshots. Sherlock also handles large data exports to reporting tools, data warehouses and data lakes. Ask for your full candidate history in a file format you can read. Get the time window in the contract.
You could also run hiring steps with agents built on your own systems. We have mapped what that looks like. The HR Agent Map
Eight questions to put to Avature
- What is our total price over the full term, with set-up, training, add-ons and AI features each priced? Good answer: A written quote that splits every part and sets out the term and renewal rules.
- Which AI helpers are live today for customers like us, and which are still coming? Good answer: A dated list of live features, with a customer we can call.
- Can we switch each AI helper off by country, brand or role? Good answer: Yes, by setting, with a log of who changed it and when.
- Which hiring steps can reject or advance a candidate with no person involved? Can we require a person to approve each one? Good answer: A list of the automatic steps, and an approval option on every one.
- Can we have the latest independent bias audit summary for the AI we will use? We need a form we can publish. Good answer: The summary, dated within the last year, with the groups it covers.
- Which accessibility level applies to our career sites, WCAG 2.1 AA or 2.2 AA? Good answer: One level, written into the contract for our own sites.
- Where will our candidate data sit, and which outside companies handle it? Good answer: A named region for each environment and a list of the outside companies.
- How do we take our candidate and job history out when the contract ends? Good answer: A stated export format and time window, written into the contract.
Alternatives to Avature
Alternatives to Avature include Oracle Recruiting, Workday Recruiting, iCIMS, SmartRecruiters, Eightfold, Phenom, Greenhouse and Workable. Keeping your current ATS is also an option.
Two large suites have public prices. Oracle charges $8.00 a month per hosted employee for Fusion Recruiting, with a minimum of 500. Oracle’s standard term for cloud services is three years. Workday prices Recruiting on the UK G-Cloud 15 list only inside a bundle, per employee per year. Minimum deal values apply. You can test Avature’s quote against Oracle’s rate.
Some buyers weigh Avature against an AI-led platform or a wider suite. Phenom Hire is an AI hiring platform that runs recruiting from job request to offer. Eightfold sells Talent Tracking as an ATS that removes the need for a separate one. SmartRecruiters is another option. SAP has bought it. Its portfolio continues to be available on its own for the foreseeable future. That matters to a buyer who wants the product kept apart from a bigger suite. iCIMS reports more than 4,400 companies across 200 countries. Its customers include a quarter of the Fortune 500, so ask it for references from large employers.
If you hire in smaller numbers, a lighter tool may fit better. Workable’s Standard plan costs $299 a month for 1 to 20 employees. You can check that price before any call. Greenhouse sells three plans called Core, Plus and Pro. It customises the price to your hiring needs. Your current tool may already post jobs, track candidates and book interviews. If so, the case for a replacement has to come from something it cannot do. Avature’s Career Sites can run alongside it while you decide.
