Coursebox
Coursebox is a learning system that writes the first draft of a course for you. You give it a topic, a document or a web link. It then delivers the course and records who finished. Enterprise starts at USD $30,000 a year.
A learning system that drafts courses with AI, delivers them to staff and records who finished.
You turn documents into many courses. Someone on your team will check each AI draft before staff see it.
Your security team requires a SOC 2 report. Coursebox does not currently hold one. You need an uptime promise without signing an Enterprise agreement. Under the Client Terms, uptime commitments apply only if agreed in a separate signed enterprise agreement.
Every plan has unlimited learners. Pro + LMS costs A$4,200 a year with one administrator. Enterprise starts at USD $30,000 a year for 50 administrators.
Coursebox writes the first draft of a course, then runs it
Coursebox is built around its AI course writer. You give it a topic, a web link, a document or a video. It returns an outline, lessons, quizzes and assessments. It can also plan an outline and build a full draft from your goals, your audience and your documents.
Source files can be PDF, DOCX, PPTX, CSV or TXT, up to 50 MB each. A YouTube link or web address is read as extracted text. Video transcripts are used, not the video itself. Ask Coursebox is a chat assistant that builds, edits and refines courses.
Behind the writer sits a normal learning system. It logs every completion, quiz score and certificate automatically. Basic reports on every plan cover enrolment, progress and assessment scores. Reports download as CSV.
Coursebox can run beside another LMS. It exports courses as Dynamic SCORM or Self-hosted SCORM. SCORM is the standard file format for e-learning courses. A Self-hosted SCORM file is a standalone copy that needs no connection back to Coursebox. Learners taking a Dynamic SCORM course in another LMS appear in Coursebox Reports with progress, scores and time spent. Coursebox sells Enterprise as an engine, not another LMS to migrate to. Courses export to Moodle, Canvas, Cornerstone, TalentLMS or any platform through SCORM or LTI. LTI is a standard for opening one learning tool inside another.
Staff can check the AI, learn on a phone and get reminders
A person can approve the AI’s marks before a learner sees them
An administrator or Coursebox AI can mark an assignment against a marking guide. An assignment can require the owner, a collaborator or a facilitator to approve the AI’s grade and feedback. The learner sees no AI grade or feedback until they do. Coursebox does not use AI for automated pass or fail decisions without human review.
The AI tutor stays inside the course unless you open it up
A new course gets a standard AI tutor trained on the course content. By default the tutor stays within its assigned course. A course creator can open it to questions outside the course material. It can also be limited to uploaded handbooks, policies and guides, with its access to open training data switched off.
Staff can learn on a phone, with no work laptop
Coursebox has one mobile app, on Android and iOS. It aims the app at staff with no company address and no laptop. A branded app is an add-on on Pro + LMS and Enterprise.
Reminders go out before the deadline, and new versions can re-enrol people
Automated reminder emails go to learners who have not started or finished a course before its deadline. Learners who completed an earlier version of a course can be re-enrolled automatically. Their original certificate stays on record.
It suits teams that turn documents into courses
Writing courses is where your team’s hours go
HITsa reports that creating a unit fell from 30 hours to 10 after it moved to Coursebox’s Business plan. That is HITsa’s own figure.
You build in one system and deliver in another
Lloyds Metals exports its finished courses as SCORM files and loads them into its own e-learning platform. Coursebox also launches inside any LTI 1.3 LMS, on Pro and above. Grades and progress go back to that LMS’s gradebook.
You use Coursebox as the LMS across countries
Secure Meters has 7,200+ employees in 10 countries. It chose Coursebox AI as its LMS. It reports that 500+ employees have completed at least one course.
You train in several languages
Coursebox delivers training in more than 100 languages. Lloyds Metals reports on its generated Hindi and Marathi versions. Corrections came to a word or two across 21 courses. Courses are translated one page at a time by asking Coursebox’s AI editing assistant.
You train people outside your own staff
The Enterprise plan includes separate branded portals for partners, resellers and customers. Each extra client portal costs USD $2,000 a year.
Security papers, AI data and sign-in need checking before you sign
Most of the risk sits in three places. They are the security papers, the handling of AI data and sign-in. Several of Coursebox’s own pages disagree on these, so get each answer in writing.
SOC 2, ISO 27001 and the GDPR certificate are open questions
Coursebox does not currently hold SOC 2. It began its own company-level ISO 27001 project, with implementation starting in September 2026. Its help centre gives the GDPR certificate expiry as 10 June 2026. Its security page says the certificate is current from July 2026 after an annual surveillance audit. Its Enterprise article says it is valid to June 2028. Ask to see the certificate itself.
Your content reaches several outside AI companies
Azure OpenAI processing runs in US regions by default. EU-region processing is available where required. Coursebox uses several outside AI companies, including Microsoft, OpenAI, Google, HeyGen, ElevenLabs and Mistral. Optional AI features can be disabled for a customer’s environment on request.
Its own documents differ on training AI with your content
Coursebox’s AI policy covers course content, learner data, quiz responses and anything you create or upload. It says none of it is ever used to train or fine-tune AI models. Its security page adds “unless agreed in writing”. Under its Client Terms, Coursebox may use User Content, with the client’s consent, to train its base foundation models. Ask which one governs your contract.
Voice features carry a legal duty for you
Under Coursebox’s Client Terms, voice prints may be sensitive biometric data. The client or user is responsible for compliance. If you plan to use cloned or synthetic voices, take this to your legal team first.
Hosting is in France, and the choice of region depends on the plan
Default hosting is Google Cloud in the EU (France) region, from July 2026. Self-serve plans cannot choose another hosting region. Business and Enterprise clients can select Google Cloud regions outside France. Under the Client Terms, data residency is not guaranteed unless agreed in a separate enterprise agreement. Contractual Data Residency is sold as a separate add-on.
Learner sign-in with a work account is quoted separately
Coursebox sells sign-in with a work account as a paid add-on. The Enterprise article limits it to administrator accounts and quotes learner sign-in as a custom scope. The learning experience platform page offers it on enterprise plans so learners sign in with their existing work login. Ask which one applies to your learners.
The pages disagree on when certificates are sent automatically
Coursebox’s pricing page advertises certificates auto-sent on completion. Its roadmap puts certificates issued automatically on completion among the features coming by the end of 2026. Its compliance page includes automated certificate generation and renewal alerts among its features. Ask what happens today when someone finishes a course.
Live-session attendance is approved by hand
Coursebox does not host live sessions. They run in Zoom, Teams or Meet. For a course event, attendance is self-declared until approved. Approval is manual for each learner, and no event reminders are sent.
xAPI export is not currently supported
Coursebox does not currently support xAPI export. xAPI is a standard for sending learning records between systems. Ask Coursebox how else you can move learner records out.
The HR system link depends on which page you read
The HR training page advertises a connection to Workday, BambooHR and your HR system. New employee records trigger training and completions sync back. The Enterprise article quotes HR links for Workday, BambooHR and Rippling on request. It builds them with its API kit, the tools IT uses to link systems. The open API is an add-on on Pro + LMS and is included on Enterprise. Over LTI 1.3, completion data goes back to Workday automatically.
Offline use drops the AI tutor and the tracking
A Self-hosted SCORM export needs no connection back to Coursebox. It leaves out features that need a live connection, including the AI tutor. Run from a laptop or USB stick without an LMS, nothing is tracked.
The company behind Coursebox started in 2021
Coursebox was founded in August 2021 and is based in Perth, Western Australia. It closed a $750,000 seed round from Purpose Ventures in September 2025 and is preparing for a Series A. Coursebox reports that the seed followed $1 million in annual recurring revenue, 1,000 active paying customers and 100,000 courses created. It reports a 2025 selection to power the training of a global organisation with more than 100,000 staff. Weigh this against the two-year minimum initial term on Enterprise.
From A$4,200 a year to USD $30,000 a year, with add-ons on top
Coursebox sells administrator seats and add-ons. Self-serve prices are in Australian dollars and Enterprise prices are in US dollars. Ask which currency your invoice will use.
Or A$350 a month, with one administrator. Each extra administrator seat on Pro and Pro + LMS costs A$125 a month or A$1,500 a year. Groups are available on Pro + LMS and Enterprise.
This covers 50 administrators. A typical Enterprise deployment costs USD $42,000 to $63,000 a year plus implementation. Extra administrator seats cost USD $1,000 a year each. Billing is annual in advance.
A paid add-on.
An Enterprise add-on.
An add-on, not in the base Enterprise contract.
An Enterprise add-on. Ask Coursebox what it covers.
It brings 99.9% “credit-backed” uptime and 24/7 first-priority response by email or ticketing, with no phone support channel.
Coursebox charges platform fees in US dollars. Converted amounts, including Australian dollars, may be displayed. Pricing varies by country, and promotions run from time to time. Under the Client Terms, fees may change from time to time on notice. Monthly and annual fees are nonrefundable, subject to listed exceptions.
Plans include a set number of what Coursebox calls “AI credits” each month or year. Unused allowance does not roll over on monthly billing. Coursebox sells no one-off packs of “AI credits”. It does sell extra AI images in packs, for example 100 images for US$30. Enterprise includes a monthly account-wide AI allocation covering the first 50 administrator seats.
Self-serve plans have no contract and no setup fee, and cancel anytime. Coursebox sells them on standard terms that cannot be varied, with no master agreement. Under the Client Terms, Coursebox may modify them at any time without prior notice. Enterprise has a minimum two-year initial term under a signed agreement. If you cancel, Dynamic SCORM and LTI courses stop working, even in another system. Self-hosted SCORM packages keep working.
You could also run training steps with agents built on your own systems. We have mapped what that looks like. The HR Agent Map
Ten questions to put to Coursebox before you sign
- Which GDPR certificate does Coursebox hold today, and can we see it? Good answer: The certificate itself, with its dates, and a written timetable for ISO 27001.
- Will our content or learner data ever train Coursebox’s own AI models? Good answer: No, written into the order form.
- Which outside AI companies receive our content, and in which country does each process it? Good answer: A named list by feature, with EU processing for every AI feature we use.
- Will the contract say that we can switch off optional AI features? Good answer: Yes, as a clause in the order form.
- Will learners sign in with their work account, and what does that cost? Good answer: A written price for learner sign-in, not only administrator sign-in.
- Which HR system link do we get, who builds it and what does it cost? Good answer: A named link, a named builder and a price in writing.
- Do certificates go out automatically today, and can you show it on one of our own courses? Good answer: A live demonstration on one of our own courses.
- Is bulk approval of live-session attendance planned, and by when? Good answer: A date in the contract, or a clear process that fits our team’s time.
- What does the Premium SLA cost, and what do we get back if Coursebox misses 99.9% uptime? Good answer: A written price, the 99.9% promise and the amount we get back, all in the signed agreement.
- At the end of the agreement, Coursebox returns or deletes personal data within 30 days, at your choice. Can we also export our courses and learner records in a usable format? Good answer: Yes, with the format named in the contract.
Alternatives to Coursebox, including buying nothing
If Coursebox does not fit, look at TalentLMS, Absorb and Go1. Managers practising hard conversations can use Risely’s Merlin.
Coursebox’s uptime promise is an Enterprise add-on. TalentLMS publishes an uptime promise, called an SLA. It gives an “availability credit” of 1% of the monthly fee for availability of 98.9% to under 99.9%. The “availability credit” is the sole and exclusive remedy. It is capped at 50% of that month’s fee. The SLA does not apply to users on a free access plan. The remedy is small, at most half of one month’s fee.
Your security team may require SOC 2. Absorb completed a SOC 2 Type 2 examination for security, availability and confidentiality. Absorb’s Aura Create also builds a course from an uploaded document, a prompt or a connected SharePoint or OneDrive source. The admin reviews the course before it publishes.
Coursebox expects your team to check each AI draft. If you would rather buy finished courses, Go1 sells ready-made courses from other providers. Its Premium Pro and Premium Essentials plans cover 80,000+ courses from over 300 providers in 120+ languages.
Risely’s Merlin is an AI coach. In role-play, Merlin plays the other person in a conversation, such as a defensive direct report or a sceptical VP. The manager practises their approach before the real conversation. Merlin also works through real scenarios, such as a team member saying they are thinking about quitting. Coursebox’s AI role-play is an activity inside a course, written by Coursebox AI.
Keeping what you have is also a route, and so is buying nothing. Count the hours your team spends on a course now before you pay for any tool.
