Relias LMS

Relias LMS is a training platform built for healthcare employers. It comes with its own course library and tracks licences, credentials and rule changes. Relias sets the fee in a signed order.

In one line

A training platform for healthcare employers, with its own courses, credential tracking and rule monitoring.

Buy it if

Your staff need clinical, continuing education or compliance training. You want courses, licence tracking and training records in one place. A contract under Delaware law, with disputes in North Carolina, works for you.

Do not buy it if

Your training needs sit outside healthcare and compliance. You want your fee to fall during the term when fewer staff use the platform. You want the right to end the contract early without paying the remaining fees.

A signed Ordering Document sets the fee. It rests on subscription metrics, quantity and professional services. One US federal order was a CE Direct subscription for up to 350 users at $85,288.12 over five years.

Relias pairs healthcare courses with records for licences and rules

Relias LMS is more than a standard healthcare LMS. It is the training core of a wider Relias platform. It serves 4.5 million caregivers. Its focus is clinical, continuing education and compliance training.

The courses come with the platform. Customers can reach more than 387,000 custom courses developed by customers. Relias also offers more than 4,500 accredited courses from 250 bodies. Licensed staff get free continuing education (CE and CME) in the same place. The courses needed for compliance are there too, including American Heart Association courses.

Relias gives two counts of its own courses. Its LMS page puts them at more than 5,000. Its official-information page puts courses from in-house experts at more than 9,000. Relias may add, revise or withdraw items from its content in its sole discretion. Get the course list you need in writing.

Administrators assign collections of training by staff role. Relias also offers training chosen for each employee’s role and learning needs. Live sessions, conferences and events are tracked beside online courses. Customers can turn their presentations into courses. The platform reads the common e-learning course file standards SCORM, AICC and xAPI.

The records side covers licences, credentials and other requirements. Relias tracks and updates requirements for more than 135 national accrediting bodies and several state boards. Compliance tracking is automated and tied to state and federal regulations. Real-time reports support compliance. Leadership can follow completion, competency scores and compliance gaps. A skills checklist records staff abilities and finds skill gaps.

Relias also lets customers upload, distribute, revise and report on policies and procedures next to their training. Course content can be aligned with performance reviews and care outcomes. In October 2025, Kahuna, a partner company, and Relias built a joint product. It links Kahuna’s real-time competency data with Relias’s accredited courses. Our market guide places Relias beside the other learning platforms.

Rule summaries, customer results, phone access and security checks

Rule changes reach your team as short summaries

Relias Regulation Management uses AI to watch federal rules such as CMS Title 42 and all 50 state regulations. It flags updates that affect your policies. AI change summaries explain what changed and whether it is big enough to update a policy. Policy Pro sends reminders so staff acknowledge each policy. A managed service watches state and federal training requirements and updates training plans for you. Because the flags come from AI, have a person read each summary before a policy changes.

Customers report results at small and large sizes

HealthLinc Community Health Center began with 25 employees and now has 260. Rappahannock Area Community Services Board cut overdue trainings from more than 1,600 to under 1% of staff. Aspire Indiana reports 93% or higher course completion over ten years. It trains 900 or more employees across 200 or more job titles. Pathways has more than 6,000 employees in 23 states. It calculated about $1.2 million a year saved in new-hire training for one state. Each result belongs to that customer alone.

Staff get training and reminders on their phones

The Relias Learner app runs on Apple and Android devices. Staff can get training and alerts on any mobile device. Relias also sends text message alerts to learners to raise on-time completions. Its foundational courses for caregivers and home health aides come in English, Spanish, Haitian Creole, Filipino, Russian and Chinese.

The main security checks are done or under way

Relias is SOC 2 compliant. It is also compliant with HITRUST, a healthcare security standard. FedRAMP, a US federal cloud security approval, is in process. Data uses SSL/TLS 1.2 in transit and AES-256 at rest. Access uses role-based controls and multi-factor sign-in. Relias sets a 24-hour target for restoring service and a 24-hour target for how much data it could lose.

The contract holds more risk than the platform

Relias is a private company and a subsidiary of Bertelsmann. On 28 September 2026 it agreed to sell Relias Germany to Thieme Group. The sale is expected to close in Q4 2026, subject to closing conditions. If you buy outside the United States, ask which Relias company signs your contract.

Some coverage and a Workday link are still to come

Relias marks Title 29 (OSHA) as coming soon in its federal coverage. It marks Alaska and Arizona as coming soon in its state coverage. Relias will soon offer API integration with Workday. An API lets IT link two systems. Today Workday is a Gold-level partner in Relias’s alliance directory. Get a date for each item before you rely on it.

Fees can rise, and lower use brings no refund during the term

If your headcount falls during the term, your fee does not fall with it. Under Relias’s terms there are no fee adjustments or refunds for lower use. After the first 12 months, Relias may change fees on 60 days’ written notice. It may do so no more than once in any 12 months. Extra use above your capacity is bought at the fees in force then. Switching users on and off to stay under your paid count is a material breach. That means a serious breach of contract. Past-due balances carry interest of 1% a month.

Leaving costs notice, remaining fees and fees paid up to date

Leaving costs you in three ways. The subscription renews automatically unless either side gives written notice 60 days before the term ends. If the agreement is terminated early, you pay all fees that would have come due. The exception is Relias’s uncured material breach, a serious breach it has not fixed. Relias provides your data on reasonable request at no extra fee for three months after the subscription ends. That holds only if you are current on fees. After those three months, fees may apply.

Relias may use your data to improve its own services

In your dealings with Relias, you own your data. You also give Relias a licence with no end date that is not exclusive to Relias. It may use your data as reasonably necessary, including to improve its services. Relias may use Aggregated Data during and after the term, including to improve its services and for development and research. Relias may use and disclose de-identified client data to third parties, in compliance with data protection laws. De-identified means stripped of details that point to a person.

Relias can change who runs the service and where data sits

Relias may hand the services to any outside company. It does not need your written consent first. It may move you and your users to other or temporary platforms or environments. It may audit your use of the services up to once a year. Under its GDPR addendum, Relias may send and store personal data outside the European Economic Area or the UK. That includes the United States. You may not upload protected health information (PHI) to a service Relias has not designated as suitable for PHI.

Claims and disputes run on US terms, with a liability cap

Relias limits its total liability to the fees paid for the item in the claim over the prior 12 months. Delaware law governs the agreement. Disputes go to the state or federal courts in Wake County, North Carolina. Relias commits to commercially reasonable efforts to keep the services available. Ask whether it will promise a fixed uptime.

Five cases against Relias LLC sit in the public court record, all in the Eastern District of North Carolina. They were filed between September 2024 and March 2026. One is a case under the Americans with Disabilities Act, a US disability-rights law. Two others concern copyright and video records privacy. Three of the five have no end date on the record, so ask Relias what they concern.

It suits a team with a linked HR system and a quick launch

If your HR system is UKG, Paycor, AlayaCare, LaborEdge or ContinuumCloud

All five are Relias partners. Paylocity is also a Gold-level partner. Relias links to HR systems, home care back-office systems and pre-hire assessment systems. One way is a nightly export of users from your HR system. Another uses API calls, which update user accounts in real time.

If you want to launch in a month with little IT help

Customers can launch in 30 days with little IT work. Relias’s services team sets up the learning site and trains administrators. It also brings in data from HR or payroll systems. The Implementation Premier service builds up to 20 custom training plans and 10 reports. Relias offers a free course for administrators called RAMP.

A signed order sets the fee, and past federal orders give a sense of scale

Your fee is set in a signed Ordering Document. It rests on the measures of use in the contract, called subscription metrics, plus quantity and professional services. The contract terms that move the fee after signing are in the limits section above.

Public US government orders give a sense of scale. A federal purchase order for an enterprise web-based training learning management system obligated $1,932,048 from October 2017 to March 2020. With all options, it was worth up to $3,605,400. A federal contract for a distance learning management system was worth $3,895,407.85 from February 2020 to January 2022. A Department of Health and Human Services order for a web-based distance learning system was $34,548.

The Department of Veterans Affairs bought a CE Direct subscription for up to 350 users at $85,288.12. It ran from September 2019 to September 2024. At 350 users that is about $49 a user a year. Fewer users would raise the figure. These are past federal orders. They are not a quote for your company.

You could also run training steps with agents built on your own systems. We have mapped what that looks like. The HR Agent Map

  1. Which count sets my fee, and who counts as a user? Good answer: One named count, written into the order.
  2. Your LMS page puts your own courses at more than 5,000. Your official-information page puts courses from in-house experts at more than 9,000. Which count is the library I would buy? Good answer: One number, with the course list for my roles.
  3. Can the fee fall if fewer staff use the platform during the term? Good answer: Yes, in writing.
  4. What cap applies to a fee change after month 12? Good answer: A capped percentage in the order.
  5. Can the clause that charges all remaining fees on early termination be limited? Good answer: Yes, to a stated period.

Alternatives to Relias, and the option of waiting

The alternatives to Relias are HealthStream, Docebo and Skillsoft. Waiting is a fourth route.

Relias will soon offer API integration with Workday. HealthStream already offers prebuilt connections to systems such as Epic and Workday. If a live Workday link matters to you, put that question to both vendors before you choose.

Relias may send and store personal data outside the European Economic Area or the UK, including in the United States. Docebo stores data in the AWS region you choose in the agreement. The choices are the USA, EU, UK, Canada, India or Australia. Docebo suits a buyer who needs to name the region in the contract.

Relias centres its library on clinical, continuing education and compliance training. It has partnered with Skillsoft to offer professional development courses. Before you buy Skillsoft directly, ask Relias what that partnership includes.

Waiting is a real option. Relias marks Title 29 (OSHA), Alaska and Arizona as coming soon. If you need that coverage, a later start may serve you better. If the agreement is terminated early, you pay all fees that would have come due. A purchase sized wrong is costly to undo. For a view beyond these three vendors, read the market guide.

Sources and method Everything said about Relias here comes from Relias’s own product, security, integration, services and legal pages. It also comes from its customer stories, its releases and its alliance directory. Some comes from the public court record and the United States federal award record. What Relias publishes about its own product is taken as its description of that product. Facts about HealthStream and Docebo come from those vendors’ own pages.
